    It's really weird how excited they are that people are "thousands of miles away from each other" like college juniors in 1995 getting their first internet account.

      i think that's hard to appreciate if you're basing this just on talking over zoom, because it's not really the same. you actually feel like you're in the same room as them, which even years later still feels kind of neat at times.

      @@abram730 yeah it's already mindbending, although also feels natural to me by now, we take part in events that are beyond what we could ever do IRL, and the memories we have with our friends there are the same as those in physical space, in important ways. with people i know before VR, i have a hard time remember which conversations we had in our apartment and which have been in virtual rooms, hanging out watching movies, because it's easy to forget one isn't the other.

    Inconvenience of wearing that VR headset and exposure to such bright and close screen are the main problems.
    Dont know how people see future at home with a VR.

    • @deiphosant
      @deiphosant Před 2 lety

      The screen are literally close yes, but because of lenses you actually have to focus your eyes a couple of meters in front of you in current headsets.

    • @UnknownSquid
      @UnknownSquid Před 2 lety +2

      So, just regarding the health concerns you raise here...
      It's plenty reasonable and intuitive to expect the proximity of the screen to be a health problem, but it's actually the reverse, due to how the lenses work. Using VR is actually significantly healthier for your eyes, compared to using a fixed monitor or phone screen. The focal depth for a phone is typically barely over 30cm, often even less. For a monitor it's roughly 60 to 80cm at most. When using VR however, the focal depth that your eyes rest at is roughly 3.5 to 4.5 meters, which is a far more natural state for your eyes.
      Likewise, use of peripheral vision and exercising the muscles involved also increases when using VR compared to monitors or phones/tablets, where your vision stays rigidly locked forward to a tiny field of view for hours on end. As for the intensity of light, even the best and brightest displays available in VR pale in comparison to the light intensity from common daylight. Viewing even a pure white max brightness scene in VR will still cause your pupils to contract less than an average summers day, and comes without any of the UV. The display can be dimmed by the user if desired. There's absolutely zero hazard in regards to light levels.

    • @abram730
      @abram730 Před rokem

      Lack of brightness is an issue, and the screen is 10 to 15 feet away due to the optics.

    Right now, I see the main motivation for building the metaverse as creating new marketplaces to generate more revenue (for meta, MS, etc.) by tapping into some of the money spent in the metaverse (e.g., avatar customization, virtual home).
    So, one of the first steps to achieve that end goal is to create an artificial need for the metaverse, so that people/companies (customers) feel the need to join. This video is part of that.

    Regarding people that can't grasp this time we live in...think about the very first video games as the tech was being built out and experimented with, namely simple games like PONG. Then look at the advancements in gaming now, it's almost an entirely different dimension.
    Web3, blockchain, crypto, the Metaverse, this is where we are right now in that progression as the tech is being built out and created; just because it seems simple now does not dictate the future of its success and those that dismiss it by default are going to be like those naysayers when the internet emerged, i.e. those narrow views did not end well whatsoever.

I've tried hard to test out and innovate things to make Zoom calls have the presence, but nothing works. And it has lead me to analyze what being present with others in real life really is all about. You can't replicate that, at least not with our current technology.
    Also I predict there will be a backlash. Already now there are for sure great uses for virtual meetings, but being an adult educator, it seems most people prefer to physically come to class, and love being with others IRL. That’s why as early as now, I’ve decided to invest in Metaversus a hyper realistic virtual gaming that will not only give you entertainment but as well as connect you with those people close around you.

    Great video. Like/Dislike ratio is 282/384. I can only guess the older generation following Bloomberg is the reason for this huge dislike ratio. Reading the comments with the sentences this is a gimmick, AR doesn't fit everyone, this will be the biggest fail, all enforce that view. VR/AR is the next step in technology like the combustion engine, computer and smart phone was before it.

    I find it amusing and maddening at the same time that after all the suffering the world went through with the pandemic and now waiting for a massive recession to hit, that these people are still pushing for even more social isolation, more avatars, less human contact. I don`t believe all these artificial endeavors (like this video) will succeed in making meta a thing. At least this is my greatest hope.
