Hunter McKay and Chris Mackie discuss the origins and current use of the Clan Badge of the Mackay. This video primarily talks about the origins and early use of badges throughout Britain.
I am Scottish (Born and Raised) and my dad thought his mum had a French surname but it turns out her surname was indeed Scottish, I traced her surname back to my great, great, great, great grandparents, it was a marriage of Clan Mackie and Clan Maclauchlan (Maclachlan). LOL and here was me thinking I had french Great Grandparents, I am as Scottish as a short bread tin or a Highland Coo LOL.
Traditionally Mackay once emigrated changed there nane to Mackie or McKay but where originally from clan Mackay in strathnaver, Sutherland, Scotland, proven fighting highlanders, I know as I’m one
Very good question. I think we should do a video explaining different spellings of the name. In short, yes it did, as well as McGee, Mackie, McKay, and so on. I’m not sure if there are Irish McCoys however. But I do know that McCoy is a branch of The Mackay, at least those in the Highlands of Scotland.
@@clanmackaysocietyofscotlan1311 I just re-checked and it was the 1st Lord Raey, Sir Donald Mackay. 1590AD They had loads of children back then so I'd say we're probably all related at some stage to a clan chief.
@@clanmackaysocietyofscotlan1311 I've always been interested in how the Mackay's actually lost our land? An old family story is that the clan chief was an alcoholic who got into debt and sold it all to the Sutherlands? Is there any truth to this?
@@Power_Prawnstar I cannot confirm the alcoholism, but the last of the land was sold to the Sutherlands in the 1800s. This may have to be a video someday.
My 7th great grandfather is Capt. James MacKay of Scotland and Strathy Hall, Georgia.
Fascinating! Can't wait for the next part.
Another decent video. And this one gave me some new knowledge and info regarding the clan badge. Looking forward to part 2!
Thank for your clear and concise presentation
Very nice and informative! Thank you.
Clan Mackay comes from Strathnaver in Sutherland, I know as I am a Mackay

My MacKay family didn't change their name.
Did McCoy come from MacKay?
