BMW 1M: A Bond Between Father and Daughter

- The BMW 1M is one of the rarest cars to come out of BMW's M division. With a short wheelbase, highly responsive steering, glorious engine note, and aggressive styling it has aged extremely well and has a solid grasp on the hearts of automotive enthusiasts.
Sam and her Dad purchased the car when she was 16 so she could not only have a safe car for the commute to school but also be capable for track days. In her teens, Sam got bitten by the racing bug after a ride-a-long in a Ferrari Challenge car and set her eyes on achieving the goal of being a racing driver. Today, she achieved that goal and even owns her own race team as a joint partnership with her Dad racing in the Pirelli GT America Championship piloting a BMW M4 GT4. The team finished at the top of the podium in the 2019 Championship with Sam achieving a 3rd place finish at the final stop in Las Vegas Motor-Speedway.

While I am happy for her achievements, please don’t shy away from acknowledging that she and others like her usually come from privileged backgrounds, we all know motorsports and related training is no cheap endeavour. It’s not something kids can practice at the park no matter how much they love the thrill of fast cars and have a passion for it.
Good for her that she also has a parent in the industry who could give her skills direction :)

Great story! If I ever have kids, I would love handing my cars down and hopefully pass down my love of driving. By then, manual ICE cars will be quite an anachronism.

If you are fine with turbo lag, then yes, this is the best M car ever. If you aren't fine with turbo lag, then no, it isn't.
Also, must be nice to have a rich parent to give you a 1M when you moved out of the house...
Turbo lag ain't that noticeable. I was very surprised. I've only had mine for 2 months and I've previously owned a e39 m5 and c63 merc. The 1M is such an engaging car, and a true joy to drive. However, I can't comment on if it's the best M car ever as like most people on this planet it would be a extremely rare thing to drive every M to make a definitive statement. Chris Harris and Steve Sutcliffe on the other hand are in that position and rate the car very highly.
What I like about this video is that she talks about what she appreciates about the car, time with her dad, driving culture, racing, modifications and her history in driving an M car. Sure it fun seeing people going ballistic in their cars but I also appreciate people's stories about their relationship with their machines and how important they are. My young kids love it when we go for a blast (without mom.... aka "the handbrake!").

Everyone has their own story and circumstances, just because it is different from your own doesn’t give you the right to lay judgement on someone (especially if you don’t even know them). Grow up.
