    What made me chose the Mk4 is the kit. I wanted to build my first 3D printer to be sure I know how to fix it if something ever goes wrong, because I read everywhere that it always goes wrong at some point, like a car or an house. With a bambu I would be too scared to take out a single screw (remember I started with zero experience), and since it is not very open source friendly, I was thinking that's like an iPad where you have a incredible machine but you cannot even enjoy its power because everything is locked by proprietary content. (Drives me crazy to have so much trouble to simply copy my iphone pictures to my computer)
    Building the kit gave me the confidence to start modding my prusa and now Im building my first Voron. Prusa is the perfect step to learn about 3D print technology and history, while having the perfect first layer on the first try (if I started with a voron and get frustrating first tries, I would have probably gave up). Though, I spent around 1700€ total with enclosure, addons, nozzles and filaments, which is honestly overpriced, they could at least offer me a spool, because I waited 11 weeks for the delivery.
    Also Mk4 in enclosure and concrete slab, the noise vary from 45dB to 50dB, I would like to have more printers but extremely silent (even if it means print slower) because I have neighbours. Can you tell me the noise of your different printers please?

      That's a big part of it I didn't go over in this video - if you build the kit you'll learn a lot (implicitly) about servicing it which will eventually be needed. So cool you're building a voron! I want to do a voron build but I've got too many projects higher on the list...
      Thanks for watching!

      Voron 0.2 (or whatever it's called, the smallest one) is exactly what I want for small fast prints

      It's a kit, open source, made in Europe, by a company with a long history in the business, and (by all accounts) very good customer support. Those were all reasons for me to give my business to Prusa. And the MK4 is a fantastic machine. I'm also interested in the MMU3. The MMU2 was a troublesome piece of kit, but supposedly the MMU3 is reliable and much faster and less wasteful than the AMS on the Bambu.
      I do want an enclosure at some point, not just for trickier materials but also to help with warping on larger flat parts. The Prusa one is a bit spendy, but it's not hard to make 1 out of some acrylic sheet and printed parts .

    I bought the MK4 kit because of my previous good experience with an MK2. I've already upgraded the MK2 as far as it would go but I wanted MK4 features like load-cell auto-levelling. It's been great so far and yes it's a bit expensive but if it lasts as long as the MK2 did that's no big deal.

    • @AsaMakes
      @AsaMakes  Před 7 měsíci +1

      I absolutely agree, there are many Mk2s still out there running strong (and I see them on Facebook marketplace regularly along with Mk3s)
      I'm confident this Mk4 will run for many years of calendar time and many years of actual print time. Right now my highest use Mk3s+ is at like 150 days of print time and it has had no issues - I just clean and regrease the rods, tension the belt occasionally, and I've probably gone through one or two nozzles and one or two PEI sheets

    I was lucky to aquire a mk4 with satin sheet 2 rols of pla for a excellent price, I added the bgcode add-in to octoprint and can simply upload and select files from octodash to print. Yes you miss features like powerloss/ resume. Bambu is nice but heck support from prusa is far superiour over support from bambu.

      I still haven't set up my Mk4 and now XL with Octoprint on a Pi which I really like in my 3 Mk3s - if the only issue is powerless and recovery I think that's very manageable. I have a UPS and standby automatic generator so I really only need 30 seconds of coverage in the event of a power loss. Unfortunately power loss is somewhat common in my area (once a month power loss for an hour or so is typical)

    Ny now you have had some time to experience PrusaConnect/PrusaLink. As a former OctoPrint/OctoFarm user for my 3 machine farm, I have migrated fully over to PrusaLink/PrusaConnect for
    My XL, Mini+ and MK3S+ (with Raspberry Pi 3A interfaced to the Einsy board). Only drawback is lack of camera support / spaghetti detection (Obico customer). Looking at getting a MK4 in the new year.

      I still haven't taken the time to switch my four Mk3s over from Octoprint, so I've still got my 4 Mk3s and 4 Pi4s running octoprint with the Mk4 using Prusa link.
      It wouldn't take long I just haven't put in the effort - too busy with the end of year rush at work, end of year rush with Etsy orders, and trying to make new videos!

    • @AsaMakes
      @AsaMakes  Před 7 měsíci +1

      Yes! I have two MMU2 - MMU3 upgrades kits on order for my MK3S+s, i probably won't buy the MMU3 for Mk4 for now but may order one in the future if I need it for filling Etsy orders. The two MMU3 and Mk3s+ should be enough for me

  • @timf7354

    I would be interested in the speed and quality comparison between X1C and MK4. I have 2 MK3S+ and 2 X1CC and dont use the MK3S printers unless the X1CC are busy. Also, print quality seems the same or better on the X1CC. The speed comparison is 4 hour print on X1CC vs over 11 hours for same parts on MK3S. This is with Bambu Studio 0.2mm Strength profile versus PrusaSlicer .2mm quality profile. Of course if you tweak both you will get different times.
    Will you be upgrading your MK3S to MK3.5 ($250), MK3.9 ($500), or MK4 ($580)? IMHO they are all too expensive for what you get, especially when you pay import fees to the US on top of shipping and such.
    The MK3 will always have good memories for me, but having an X1C, its like i was driving a reliable economy car but am now in a luxury sedan with chauffer. Lol. I really hope Prusa can innovate quickly to keep up with the new printers that are using input shaper. Heck, even Voron kits are looking expensive and not worth it unless you want to tinker. I know all these brands are for different tupes of consumers and i think its great there are more good and seemingly reliable options.

    • @AsaMakes
      @AsaMakes  Před 6 měsíci

      I will probably at some point get an X1CC and do a comparison video - but first I'm saving the budget for a Prusa XL which I pre-ordered and hopefully will get some day...
      I do believe the X1C would still be faster than the Mk4 in most cases.
      What I plan to do is slowly replace my Mk3s with Mk4s over time. To me it makes more sense to buy the full Mk4 kit and then sell the Mk3 rather than do the upgrade. Or just keep the Mk3 in my attic as a backup in case I need spare capacity.
      I don't currently plan to replace the whole fleet with X1Cs but that definitely is possible.
      I really like running the 4 Mk3s+s as I really really value bring able to send the same g code to all my printers flexibly without having to re-slice anything.
      I would like the faster speed of the X1C but for now the Prusas are keeping up with all my Etsy orders just fine
      Thanks again for watching! I really appreciate it

    • @timf7354
      @timf7354 Před 6 měsíci

      @@AsaMakes Yes, I agree that buying a kit then selling the MK3s or keeping them for backup jobs. I think it works out that the MK3 is only 1/2 the speed of the MK4 or X1C. Another option is to look at the P1S ($500 cheaper than X1C) model. It doesn't have the LIDAR for first layer analysis, nor the better screen and hardened nozzle with extruder gear. But, they are both the same speed as far as printing goes. PLA will work just fine on it. So, if you manually dial in your extrusion settings for the brand of filament you use, you may not even miss those other features. I kick off all my prints from my computer. So, I only look at the printer when I clear the prints and clean the build plate. Otherwise, I look at things via the built in camera.
      Thanks for the replies and continued success on your business and prints!

    Months to arrive? The website stands for 3-4 weeks. I've ordered my MK4 kit on 08/10/23. I hope the wait is not more than what they said!

    • @AsaMakes
      @AsaMakes  Před 7 měsíci +1

      A fair point I didn't clarify this in the video that I bought my kit in July and it arrived in October. Lead times now are much better (but still too long, in this day and age I want to buy something and have it arrive in a few days not in a month)

    • @AsaMakes
      @AsaMakes  Před 7 měsíci +1

      And this is especially important when you consider that the main competition as I see it, the Bambu P1S, can ship in 1-3 days while Prusa takes 3-4 weeks

    • @pauserratgutierrez
      @pauserratgutierrez Před 7 měsíci

      Exactly, Prusa should invert in better shippments. It's not fair to wait that long to get it. With a wait that long the cancel order button gets more tempting every day...@@AsaMakes

    I really want the Mk4 but the price point, even as a kit, is just too much for me. At least for now. I like the idea of the Bambu labs but I have serious concerns about their forced cloud integration, so I don't see myself getting that.

    • @AsaMakes
      @AsaMakes  Před 7 měsíci +1

      Yeah, the price is really the biggest issue
      I'm using my 4 Mk3s and 1 Mk4 in a low volume product capacity for Etsy and will get a return on my investment in just a few months at my current sales rate. BUUTTTT - I'm not even starting to consider the hours of labor I spend. Anyways, my point is that it's easier to stomach the price when I know I can pay it back at some point from the small income stream it will generate

      The bambu Lab printers can work without the cloud. Anyone who said it is "forced cloud" is not telling you the truth.
      You have always been able to use it 100% offline with SD cards, Lan only is an option as well.
