  • Learn how simple it is to make Achiote oil, which is basically what we refer to as roucou or occo in the southern Caribbean, in this episode of #FoodFAQ with Chris De La Rosa. Typically we'd used water in making roucou /occo but this time we'll do it as it's done in the Spanish speaking Caribbean and Latin countries by infusing veg oil with the annatto seeds.

Hi, in Martinique (french Caribbean) we use oil too. You can also infuse the roucou sends in a bottle of oil for 3 days then filter it.

@@seacristal3080 hair/skincare? oil pulling? very high in vitamin E, tocotrienol variety = huge plus for the body
      drawback? = staining
      wouldn't use vegetable oils either
Have you come up with any ideas in the last months?

Thanks for your video. Helpful. Have read in several places that Annato ( Roucou) is good for the eyes, vs cataracts. Is the Annato liquid w water, or the paste good for the eyes...?

Thank you for you video. Just a little note: In the Dominican Republic it is called "BIJA" more commonly, no achiote.
