Lestat gave Louis a library, Armand kept the books on the ceiling...
16:17 the revenge plot was just a little noir short film in and of itself. I love it so much.
Oh, and you didn't mention it here but one thing that stood out to me was when Santiago was asking Louis about Armand,, Santiago says something like don't let him take credit for it - I was the one who did it. Santiago essentially told him Armand did it, but Louis was too angry, broken, in denial to read between the lines and hear it.
Rewatches are good too, you tend to pick up on things you've missed the first time.
About the casting: Rolin was there during the casting. He said he put so much attention on how the actors' deliver lines because he knew he would use "high" language, similar language as the books in his scripts. And for Jacob and Sam, I think they said they had like 8 rounds of audition or more before they screen tested with a potential Louis/Lestat actor. Both Jacob and Sam won their auditions
Sam also even bought some kind of device for his laptop that changed the angle or something (I don't remember what it was). Rollin was like, oh, he really wants this.
I remember watching this and remarking that whenever Armand lost control his first instinct is to burn everything down and restart. He basically did it with his old coven when Lestat came and have done so again when Louis did. Armand's entire thing is about his control and if it ever deviates he immediately snaps and wants it all destroyed. He embodies exactly what Lestat talked about in the trial, someone who crushes something they cannot own.
I will never stop gushing about how perfect this cast is. It’s mind blowing and the casting directors deserve so much praise. I kept thinking throughout the season “How did they find these people?” Its honestly insane how perfect they all are in their roles. I recently finished reading The Vampire Lestat (the second book, which season 3 is going to adapt) and there’s a lovely scene between Louis and Lestat towards the end and while reading I could literally not just see but hear Jacob Anderson and Sam Reid in my head delivering those lines❤️the cast is one of the reasons why this is my favorite show on tv right now.
Your introspection still makes even rewatch reactions very fun for us 😊
The way the rocks in Louis' feet are just a perfect encapsulation of the self-imposed punishment that Louis has frozen his life into, especially with ARMAND HIMSELF saying "he could remove them anytime he wanted to." There really is no reason to keep them in that state other than continued self-flagellation with no end date which does no one any good. That Louis has locked himself away in his coffin apartment in the sky into a two-way marriage that's a three-way punishment forever, punishing Lestat by continually choosing someone else, punishing himself by not choosing Lestat and staying with a man he will also never forgive, and punishing Armand by making it disdainfully clear every day they are locked together that he will never forgive him. And the fact that Armand KNOWS this, knows that he was chosen as an accessory of spite (Louis says all as much to his FACE) and still takes this as his only companionship- like I can barely be mad at him for the other stuff, this is just NUCLEAR levels of pathetic.
Your breakdown gets A Baker’s Kiss 💋 bravo!
It's also a reflection of Claudia's statement in season 1 of "we keep the damage so we don't forget the damage" that's another reason in my opinion why he is purposefully keeping the rocks in his ankles and not removing them and why he even has his little rock pit to begin with. It's also why I'm pretty sure he doesn't fix the wall, at the end, he just puts a painting over the crack.
"We keep the damage so we don't forget the damage"
18:40 It's so interesting what you said about the wall of light separating Louis and Armand, because I took it very different way. Considering only one of them is badly hurt, potentially killed, by the sunlight this seemed like an empty precaution or like it was trying to lul us into forgetting how powerful Armand is - tho I don't think Louis necessarily knew about Armand sun resistance at this point? (It's also something which killed Claudia as you mentioned, but in turn it would not kill Armand.) Just another layer of complexity of the power dynamic between Louis and Armand. Bause it should be obvious which one of the has the upper hand and holds the power in their relationship, but it's all muddy and mixed, changing over and over again. That aspect is so fascinating about their relationship.
But also your take on it and especially the colours were thoughtprovoking, love that we have a series full of scenes like this!
Spite and duct tape can hold things together for quite a while.
So glad to get your thoughts on this season finale because it was so good! And a two part video is a real treat
This season was excellent!!
Losing footage is painful, I'm so sorry
Omg, that line I didn't know I was screaming and the tone in his voice saying it killed me too
"And that's the end of it, there's nothing else" I thinkkk is a line from the book. i'm pretty sure every episode title has been a line from the books directly which I LOVE and I hope they continue that. I knew this so the title didn't freak me out but oh god... yeah....I can imagine it scared a lot of people!!!
Yes. EVERY episode title is a line of dialogue or just a piece of text from the books.
I'm so sorry you lost that footage. I can 't image how devastating that must have felt. But I for one absolutely loved getting to see your thoughts with the benefit of hindsight like this! Thank you for deciding to make a new video despite your loss.
The title was a quote from Louis. Louis says this in the book at the end of the interview
I'm just so happy you dropped another reaction. Yours is the reaction I've been really waiting on lol. Thank you so much!
I like the increased commentary.
A thing I like about the show is the way mental health issues are portrayed. There is a habit in TV shows and movies to glamorize or make them look sexy/cool/badass/charming. Repeatedly the mental health issues of the characters will show the traditionally cool scene like the character talking to the hallucination of the person they killed, but here you get also Louis meowing to the cat, and showing how damaging this is for him.
The references to Kill Bill is a great comparison because Louis is very cool while doing his revenge, but it is not glamorous and you never doubt that this is not a healthy thing for Louis.
And with Armand and expecting Louis to leave Paris. I think he might have because Armand is a very non-confrontational person and he is very surprised by vampires that want to live and change. So, he might not have expected Louis to stay and confront the coven because he is so passive in his own life.
I thought this was one of the best finales of any show I've ever watched. I've rewatched the whole series since this finale and I got so much more in the second viewing. Louie finally coming to terms with who he truly is and making peace with Lestat is what he's desperately needed this whole time. While he is torn up about it he knows that Claudia should have never been turned. She was just too young. I believe he came to terms with that. I've never been a big fan of Louie from the books or the show but in the finale he redeemed himself in my eyes. Jacob was stellar as Louie.
Of course Sam Reid shines as Lestat but Eric Bogosian and Ben Daniels really deserves their flowers for their performances in the finale. I've enjoyed watching this with you and I can't wait to watch S3 with you!
5:30 - For real though. What did they sacrifice, who did they sacrifice it TO, just to find Sam and Jacob alone much less everyone else. Insanity.
If you track Lestat's eyes at 21:25 you see him looking downwards to listen to their heartbeats. Then Louis places his hand over Armands heart as if to show it off, that he is truly happy with someone else. I think Lestat lets him go because he knows based off of that, that at least Armand is in love with him and will care for him like Lestat otherwise would.
I loved this. Thank you for doing it. You can talk as much as you want. I'm here for it. Onto part 2.
I love you so much I would even watch the rewatch of a rewatch 😂❤
