Netflix will oftentimes drop something that will blew our minds and we will find ourselves invested , and before we know it, we are all soooo hooked and it’s affecting us deeply! Baby Reindeer is such a beautiful powerful and OUTSTANDING tv series with performances that can very well win in BAFTA, SAG, Golden Globes and the EMMYS. Damn, episode 4 left me speechless and come episode 6 , gosh, it wowed me.. that monologue indeed… i was weeping… I hope he will be given a best actor award come awards season for his powerful heartbreaking performance. BRAVO!
Jessica who played Martha was just so terrifying and reminded me of how I felt when I watched Kathy Bates in Misery. Such an excellent performance as Martha!
One of the best indeed i ever watched and knowing it happened to him in reality… i do not know how he wrote all his experiences and relived it again as he was playing the role of Donney… such a powerful series indeed! 10/10

I’m an old lady 76 and I viewed all episodes. Well I fast forwarded a few frames especially episode 4.
He started with Martha, but really his problems started when he tried to be a stand up comedian at the Edinburgh Fringe, but died a thousand deaths, met someone who later become his abuser whom he saw as his mentor who made his shows successful in Edinburgh then disappeared when the shows finished.
The abuse and grooming seemed to start a few years later when contact was made, and the sexual abuse, grooming ,and drugs seemed to be tied in with Gadd doing some writing of ideas for scripts etc.
The damage to Gadd seemed long before Martha.but he appeared to have blocked the abuse out of his mind.
In some weird way Martha stalking helped him face the sexual abuse, but there were a lot of alarm bells about her, but why follow her, why spy on her, why have an entire wall in his room with all the details of the stalking including pictures of her.
Very dark at times, and I’m not sure Why the need to play yourself reliving the most damaging experiences especially the sexual ones.Surely that’s not healthy.

Maybe Richard decided to play himself would be in a way to redo it but where he would have at least more of a realistic and tolerable ending and sense of closure before being able to move forward. It also would bring to light of how common this may happen be it may be overlooked.

Now reviews are in my algorithm. After Netflix suggested I would love this, I was like, "Fine, what is this? Let me see if they got it right." I do in fact love this. I even got a heart reaction from Richard Gadd... I think it's a real profile? Anyways, it's brilliant. I didn't know it was a true story until after I finished it and had to find out who these actors were. I already thought it was really good, but knowing that it's this good because it's a true story blew me. It's parts I relate to, and I know I laughed, but I don't remember what was funny. Maybe that it's supposed to be funny, but it's awkward instead? I keep telling people to watch it. The climate we are in exposing predictor in show biz we can see how grooming and trafficking happens easily. It's disorienting and hard to break the behavior even after you realize it's happening. I love dark psychology, and this is that kind of story that needs to be seen and told. People are living this right now! It's so good, a masterpiece... the end 😂

I just watched this show in 1 night. Just finished and it’s incredibly captivating and also hard to watch. I never had a full blown stalker but had someone that well over crossed the line where I had to get authorities involved. It’s terrifying but also I can relate with his feelings of it almost becoming part of your daily life. This show had so many levels to it and deserves to win awards. It was also refreshing to see a male main character who could be honest and vulnerable.

I am so happy with the show, the feelings man! But what I'm also happy about is that we have our routine: no more than one episode of any series (let alone good series!) in a day, never. And this story got its hooks on me so waiting for tomorrow was a pain in the ass! But we never broke our routine. It took a week to watch the show. I'm happy I got to see it like that and not be spoiled on anything. That's something rare nowadays!

honestly I didnt see this as a show, I thought it was brilliant because i've never seen a better depiction what real trauma is, like as in how it really plays out in a persons psyche. Like all of these characters were so well depicted because they were real people. We as people are complicated, trauma is very complicated.
People who have been victims felt very identified with this story, I've never felt more understood on the complexities of my trauma

Man, I wish I liked it like everyone else. I think it would have made a good 1:30 movie but, to me, the eps had some definite filler ... and the fact he said he wrote it so that it's 'emotionally true' but wrote her so differently that even she wouldn't recognize herself took even more of the shine off. So many "why didn't he...?" questions throughout and an ending that pretty much is an "ok, that should have happened so much earlier" and not surprising at all.

He was a typical guy in his 20’s that has nothing going for him, he has no career, no education, no significant other and as transplant to London he has no support system in way of friends or family living there. He’s trying to fill that hole by following his dream of being a successful stand up comic, desperately seeking validation from the audience in the form of laughs and adulation and is absolutely crushed when he flops hard. He’s a very emotionally needy person and predatory people pick up on that and exploit it. In his initial contact with Martha he admits he’s attracted to her laughter, something he’s wanting as an aspiring comedian so in a twisted way she is fulfilling an emotional need within him, hence why initially keeps her around and is anyways joking around with her.

I’ve almost finished all the episodes ibut he is so cringe and such a ridiculous case of “what not to do” I am having a hard time with it. The acting is very good but the story is beyond comprehension. He does everything wrong and continues to make everything worse. Why did he go back to Darrien not only at the end but stayed at his place for days knowing about the assault? He encouraged Martha the whole time and he lied to everyone and just kept prolonging the chaos. He’s so worried about how others see him he is undone by his own ego.

Baby Reindeer is nonsense and none of what happened to him other than the stalking actually happened for real. There I was with my girlfriend (her choice not mine) thinking it was gonna be about a case of a woman stalker stalking a guy that ends in a court case but by the time you are halfway through the series you forget about Martha bunny boiler and it goes off into a dark direction of him putting himself directly into the firing line of londons sadists, he gets date raped, then he puts himself to use in what looks like a gay sadist brothel or something to get slammed by some beefcake in leather straight outta the Village People, then he goes back to the guy who raped him oh goooood I mean really? I found it very hard to find any empathy for the character in question Donny because he put himself in that situation even letting his raper put drugs into his mouth, who even does that? You gotta be a seriously damaged individual to let that happen, but say what you will none of that was fact, and the only things that were was the stalking aspect which had nigh on disappeared by the time the show closed.

Sounds like you barely even paid attention to the show. If you've never been a victim of abuse I don't fully expect you to grasp the complexities of it, but Jesus, try a little harder. Most of this story did happen to him. And even if none of it happened to him and it was all fiction, it's still an expertly crafted drama. This is such a garbage, shallow take.

@skyhunter2816 get over yourself the show was crap and if you suffer and feel the need to whine on at me after god knows how long this comment has been here then I got news for you....put ya big boy pants on and act accordingly. I started watching the show thinking it was about a woman stalking a man, you lose all track of her so far through and your left with him being fingered in the butt, getting slammed by a beefcake, letting somebody put drugs in his mouth continually only to get abused, a lot of it didn't happen either the actor who played Donny has said that I have heard him say it myself. And what does abuse have to do with anything? You don't know me nor know anything about me or what I've been through I suggest you shut up about that and stop trying to assume things, you don't know me at all or the things I've seen and been through you don't have a god damn right to talk about what I've been through you don't know me. The show was horrible!

@skyhunter2816 the show was utter nonsense that only the woke would enjoy! And another thing you don't know what I've been through so don't assume you do. You've no right talking about abuse to me you don't know me from a bar of soap or what I've been through I suggest you keep your assumptions to yourself.

TBF within the narrative of the story he gives no hard evidence of such a serious claim and doesn’t bring up the more dangerous crimes she’s committed such as assaulting his gf or being bashed in the head with a glass cup. It’s not what you know but what you can prove.
