    Thanks to your channel I pulled the clading off the bottom of my astro !
    If I would tap on it with my boots under the side door it would just rain rust ! The metal channel piece was the cause of rust falling from my van , it's all off now not one bit of rust on the van ! Thank you for that idea !!!

      Removing that cladding is a chore, so I commend you. Not easy at all. But, the ruse from the channel can and will transfer to the body of the van after some time as it did to my drivers door. Not bad, but in the norther/wetter states I am sure the rust is much more severe. Im on the same boat, no more rust.
      I am thankful I could help out

    Looking really good. I have an Astro AWD myself and am currently in the process of fixing it and turning it into a camper van, plus a tool van. Your videos concerning small things to fix help a great deal. Thank you. I do hope you will keep up the good work. - Fred

    The mighty Astro camper van! Been living in mine for 2 years now. 500 watts solar, 300 Ah lithium battery, 2000 watt inverter, full time running fridge, computer and 32" tv. My passenger seat is removed for solar charger, inverter, DC-DC charger and battery bank. I saw you remove the air bag and the light went off in my head. I don't need that airbag and could box that cavity in for storage! Thanks for the idea!

    • @ImChrisDeDecker
      @ImChrisDeDecker  Před 2 lety

      That sounds like an amazing setup! Would you consider installing a small AC unit?
      My only concern with removing the airbag is that youll have an airbag light, and I think you can not have an airbag code to pass safety. In Texas, I could be wrong, vehicles need to be over 24 years old to skip emissions

    My step dad broke mine trying to test how strong it was when I told him it’s pretty rare to not have a broke one

    Nice fix idea. I would think that a lot of the folks making RV's out of these (I may be one of them shortly) remove the front passenger seat to gain more room, then the grab handle would not be an issue. I suppose if traveling with another person like a wife or girlfriend, that is not an option ha ha.

    • @ImChrisDeDecker
      @ImChrisDeDecker  Před rokem +1

      It will always be me and my lady in there, but you are right! However, with the handle removed, that spot looks pretty ugly.

      @OverlandOne Před rokem

      @@ImChrisDeDecker I would leave the handle and just remove the seat. I think I found a 2003 Astro I like for a decent price. Yours appears to be in excellent shape. I travel alone so, the seat is no issue, ha ha.

    Hey man! Great video! My astro van grab handle is not broken when I brought it, but Don't let anyone use since I block the hole in it! Great tip though 👌

    My handle was replaced before I bought the van ,with a polished stainless one that looks custom to replace the original, I'm just concerned in an accident that the passenger will crack their face on it ??????

    • @ImChrisDeDecker
      @ImChrisDeDecker  Před 2 lety

      That's not a terrible idea, but having a metal ( I am assuming it is metal) handle in front of a passengers face could definitely be a hazard.

    • @ihatemybosses
      @ihatemybosses Před 2 lety +1

      If your face makes it to that handle you were not wearing your seat belt and your air bag has failed.

  • @MilesTheWolfboy

    Mine's a pre-96 so it has no "oh shit" handle :(

    • @ImChrisDeDecker
      @ImChrisDeDecker  Před 2 lety

      I think I would count that as a good thing, so you do not have to worry about it breaking and your dash looking empty if you do not have a replacement.
