Almost 24 years ago my niece, her husband & their 5 year old son were beaten & their house burned to the ground with them in it. This happened in a rural Texas county also. The quotes from Sherrif Lewis in this case sound so familiar i have no doubt someone in law enforcement, or him, killed Tom Brown. Many people know what happened but have kept quiet all these years. It destroyed my family. It will be 24 years in about a week but time does not heal such an injustice.

Imagine having to rely on a small Texas sheriff's department and the Texas Rangers to solve your son's disappearance and, ultimately, his death? It's like a nightmare upon a nightmare.
At least the professionals, and more importantly, people with integrity, stepped in to help, Klein Investigations.
Oh yes, they old " I was out looking for deer antlers at 2:00 am" ploy! Yes i've seen it a million times...
Although no one has been charged in his murder, the evidence points to Tom being shot by one of the towns deputies, and the killing being covered up by the sheriff and the other deputies. Tom had had run in's with both the sheriff and the deputy suspected, and there was animosity on both sides. The deputy was eventually fired for unrelated issues and the sheriff and his department were under investigation by the Texas A.G. last I heard. That was in late 2019, early 2020, shortly after his body was found. It was found by the suspect deputy, in the area that had been deemed off limits to the searchers by the sheriff during the original hunt for Tom. What a surprise.

And the suspect deputy found the remains at 2.00am in the morning while searching for deer antlers. WTF?!

Duuuuude, he was definitely killed by the police. Never have I seen a police force be SO tight about what they know, unless the investigation was active and hot. Even then, if the case is still going on months or years later, 9/10 times police will throw their hands up and say “we can’t figure it out. Here’s what all we know. Someone tell us if anything peaks your interest.” The fact that they weren’t like that and STILL are to this day is hella suspect. I think whoever that cop was that accused him and his friends of a burglary that night did it. I’ll be waiting for this to someday be solved because I really feel like that’s what it is.

Yeah, I got that sense, too. When they said there was no evidence of foul play I just thought, well of course there isn't any, y'all refuse to look.
CleanseTheSoul, that deputy that stopped them and accused them of breaking in to a building on Main Street was none other then Nathan Lewis, before he was promoted to sheriff. Pretty strange, right?

I'm getting hella bad vibes about that police force. They were so reluctant and hesitant to do just about anything and were so adamant that Tom left on his own volition.
Even if that's not the case here, this is why I wouldn't wanna live in a small town. Small town cops have very little accountability.
As per usual, that is a minor fraction of police officers. Small town cops are often very willing to investigate things just as much as city cops, and are far less likely to just shoot you for being a different skin color.

Hi Casefile! Are you going to do an update of this case since poor Tom was found two yrs ago? Read that the PI says it's coming up for court hearings soon too, hope that is true.

Everyone knows Nathan luis killed Thomas and that's why the DA didn't want to release the files because there was evidence against Nathan and is also why he resigned as sherriff and disappeared
The football stadium seems like a place you go to meet someone because everybody in a hundred mile radius is going to know where it is...seems like where you would meet someone your not familiar with and/or arnt completly comfortable with...they don't know where his home or other places are and want the meeting safe and in the open but still have privacy..also seems like somewhere you park to get in someone elese vehicle and do something then return to your vehicle r..I'm from this area and meeting up and parking at the football stadium is something you do in a Texas community like this..if someone was to ask "he was supposed to meet up with someone then go for a ride and come back" 9 out of 10 Texas teens would say "football stadium" without hesitation

Im from a small town too here in south texas, in 92 or 93 when i was in high school, there was a young man who was beaten to death and left on a back road... omg i get chills writing this. Anyway, the next day the rumors were swirling that 4 or 5 of our HS classmates were involved....but nothing came out if it. Anyway, it's 2023 and i dont think it has ever been solved. I dont live in my hometown anymore but it's still small, poor and not technologically advanced as other towns or cities. I STILL wonder who murdered him😢 RIP Luis Segovia

Not only was his body found in January 2019, it was found by the deputy, Pyne Gregory who had been the one who drove Tom's brother around to "look" for Tom that Thanksgiving morning. He was out by the lake supposedly looking for deer scat or antlers, at 2 AM. Gregory was later fired, although for reasons other than related to Tom's case.

(sorry for commenting so much!) but I wanted to add the fact that I don't know what a lot of ppl would do without some of these Private Investigators! Because I've seen a lot of cases solved quick after years of the case being cold just to find up the police weren't doing there job right!, there covering it up or something more sinister up like I said in my other comment! Or even sometimes police officers are either lazy, under trained, or not doing there job with motivation because cops are paid very crappy for the work they do!. But some cases wouldn't be exposed as a bad investigation if some of ther PI's didn't come poking around! Also bro Great video with lots of information without going off topic if not any!.
Wonder if Tom's family has pursued a good psychic. This case def needs this kind of help.

The sheriff controlled the entire investigation. He either did it, or is protecting someone.

That sheriff seems shady and I can't help but wonder if he had something to do with Tom Brown's "disappearance". It sure would explain why he was bound and determined to convince everyone Tom left on his own against all logic. I think that sheriff has something to hide and is covering up something. Small town law enforcement are good ole boys and can be crooked as hell.
There's so many cold murder cases and suspicious disappearances. Numerous times cases aren't handled well from the beginning, tests aren't done promptly or properly, and local police become overwhelmed or hit roadblocks. Most smaller police forces aren't equipped or funded for these types of investigations, larger ones too busy and FBI only gets involved in certain situations. Evidence gets trampled, improperly collected, lost or overlooked etc.
I feel there should be a special federally funded centralized taskforce in each quadrant or areas of the country,
maybe divisions expanded by the FBI. But they would have local police preserve the scene until an expert team comes in for assessment and have immediate access to highly trained forensic teams, investigators, cell and tech, ballistic, blood splatter, DNA, divers/sonar, trackers, dogs and other experts quickly on hand.
That way too everything could be streamlined and procedural, stored properly and information collected better into national databases.

I think there may have been an affair with that kids Dad and maybe Tom was threatening to bring it out and he met with the guy and he killed him.
I haven’t heard the podcast since the last episode, I need to go back and listen to it again. I just don’t think the kid did anything that would be bad enough for the sheriff to kill him. It’s not like he was the local meth dealer.
I find it very odd that he was killed with the same caliber bullet as the one that the man committed suicide with. I think that’s where the answer is, not with the cops.
