I saw this on Raffall and came here to see what it is all about. I am definitely going to enter for this one!
@TomleyRC how does this compare with Team Associated RB10, another inexpensive RTR
I’m an ex Welsh Champion from 30yrs ago and I’ve started up again and I’m now a rookie again 😆😆😆😆. But love it
4:50 the gyro affecting your ability to steer reminds me of my ford escape awd with traction control. The traction control sent me into the snow banks every time I drifted around snow covered back roads. Even when I turned it off, it kicked back on soon as it sensed any yaw. If I had kept the vehicle I would have pulled the fuse disabling it.
Some cars just done like you to be in control 😅
Lovely footage of the rear wheel/suspension! You could really see the wheel camber moving around. Very cool indeed
Thanks mate. It’s my favourite camera angle for these buggies. You wait… everyone will be doing the same soon 😊
its a cool angle and also show how much to positive the outer wheel goes in corners, its easy to think that camber gain makes the wheel tilt inwards during turns but what theory and what works practical is sometimes not the same.
Yay, more race stuff! What a cracking little buggy. Yokomo stuff is always top class.
The stuff you listed at the end; I totally agree, none of it should be called "negative". Yeah, the gearing and suspension/steering setup will need adjusting, but Yokomo are selling a buggy that can be used on any track, or any type of surface, anywhere in the world. The chances of them giving it a jack-of-all-trades setup that absolutely nails what your particular track requires, is next to zero. What they need is a buggy that's easy to drive, from the box. They've clearly done that. Sensored would be nice, but that would jack the price up and anyone taking it seriously would get faster stuff, anyway! Great video!
Agree. I was so surprised at how well it was set up out the box. Very enjoyable to drive and forgiving 👌
It's nice that we're seeing a return of RTR buggies that aren't just the Traxxas Bandit. I think stadium trucks would have been a better option simply because their larger tires and increased suspension travel makes them more versatile, but it seems like a lot of RC guys have an irrational hatred of stadium trucks so I guess buggies would sell better.
tbh the guy wardening fixing your steering link in 12 seconds is bloody good work! I swear every time you come to the club is always the weeks im not there, will have to race you eventually haha
Nice camera shots to show how the geometry changes through cornering.
Cheers dude
When i was a kid, Yokomo was the holy grail of buggies. Untouchable, but the best out there.
When racers turned up with a yz10 you knew they where serious about the sport
honestly not a bad little buggy, would like to see how it would perform on a clay track with the right tires
Very capable buggy and a very good entry point for racing. Nice on-body shots 👍
Mine runs really good just alot of adjusting to track and driving conditions but beats ae and tlr xray cars
Looks like a great buggy out of the box. There are certainly fine adjustments you get on something like the B6.x or equivalent, but running mid-pack pace with the B main folks speaks to how good it is out of the box and how good you are with very little race experience. One thing we do at my local track is yell out if we crash on track. Simple stuff like "straightaway!", "wall!", "sweeper", etc. If you're fast enough you can also add "stay low/inside/high/outside". My first criticism to the RTR that may not apply to the UK buggy classes is that it appears to be a basic kv rated motor. My local club and many in the US usually run roar spec motors by turn count. You have 21.5, 17.5 and mod (which is essentially non-blinky open motor). I think novice is generally run-what-ya-brung if it's a legal chassis for the track but even a simple justock combo would make this race legal at most/many tracks worldwide
Id like to see this against the associated rtr 2wd buggy.
My ro 1.0 rtr runs good can beat 6.4 just needs front and rear sway bars weight
@@stevenlocke5445they made sway bars for the rb10
Rb10?
You have the best content! Keep up the good work brotha.
Great job racing, sweet buggy
Great video. Back when I raced, I knew a couple of guys who raced Tamiya Foxes and they went toe to toe with the worlds best. A good car but better driver will win the race.
Gyros work great on dirt race tracks. On the carpet track, the Yokomo Gyro needs to be put in DPS mode and the gyro endpoints need to be set up so that you get full steering. Gyros only cause problems when jumping high bashing as it causes your vehicle to go wonky in the air and then crash. I race the Yokomo SO 2.0 2wd buggy offroad and carpet track. Awesome buggies once you get used to them and tune them or the track.
Good info dude, thank you 👌
I didn't know gyro usage was allowed in racing. Or is that just in drag racing, or like a club to club kind of thing?
@@Rek_Rc in general gyro is not alowed in racing but a few ecceptions like rc drifting dragrace and a few others i think.
Gyros aren’t usually allowed in any form of racing
I don't think you can use a gyro in any type of rc racing other then drifting. If you are allowed to use gyro I don't think it's official world rc racing association and im sure times aren't posted on the official website then.
Thank you for this Phil. Have been considering getting a Yokomo. This looks like a good starting point.
Good review. As I said earlier on another vid with a different type of RC but still beginner level, it's amazing what the beginner/novice can get today for the money. I'm assuming you will have reviewed that same entry level truck as your evil nemesis.
This buggy looks good, but I've spent my money on a BBX, for reasons.
Awesome buggy, Phil! Congrats on the race!!! 😃
Thanks for the review!
Stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
Thanks mate. It was a lot of fun!
Safe? Are the Germans coming?
@@mikescherrer4923 No, but there's too much violence everywhere today, dude. Crazy times... 😕
Good showing Mate
Great video of the Yokomo RO, be cool to see you build and race the new SO2.0 Yokomo and see the improvements you can make on the times/consistency
Yes, maybe 👌
yeah with the top speed, the claims are a little iffy but when racing, you want to be hitting your top speed at about 2/3 down the straight. if you hit too soon, you're geared too high, if you don't hit it, you're geared too low. 48 kph, was probably just right for that track since the back straight wasn't that long.
I noticed in our on camera shots it leans quite a bit in the corners, could prob do with a sway bar as well to help stay planted in the corners.
Looks like a decent ripper for the casual racer though.
Yeah, it needs sone fine tuning. But straight out the box, it was pretty good 👌
I love getting personal track time! I get to caught up in going fast in a race instead of trying to just put laps down lol
Just got back tonight from racing there, great venue!
The only important thing is that you had fun!
Wow, that's a damn good buggy for straight out of the box, you did well with it too. I just had a look and trying to get hold of one is not that easy sadly....
Yeah, it did very well 👌
Brilliant idea these
I saw hints of this car in Gav's video. Great little car, needs some camber and other tweaks to make it react faster. Its tasty. Thanks for sharing.
Yes, so good out the box
Very nice buggy. I was thinking of getting a pari of RB10, but now I need to have a closer look at this little fella.
If you choose the rb10… my recommendation would be to match the pinion and spur gears of the Rookie Off-road 1.0. And yes.. I am an owner of a Rookie Off Road 1.0.
No you're much better than that my friend Hi-C new racing you can hold your own so keep up the good work
I've been thinking about getting a buggy for years, I think that might be the best suited to me yet. I'd get the kit version, I don't need more controllers. 😆
This is more my kinda thing. Cheers Phil. 👌🏻
You are welcome 🤘
Thing is it doesn’t meet Brca rules in the Uk, no gyro and that motor won’t be on the allowed list.
Great run video mate! Love this! which would u recommend? Versus the Team Associated RB10 RTR? 😊
Not gonna try the new Gorgon? Pretty neat little truck imo, I like this too though haha
I like the gorgon price I just don't want a 2 wheel drive monster truck I'm not a 12 year old
They should have made it 4WD or sold it as a boost kit. It's a shame because videos I have seen it can take serious abuse at the skate park. Monster tracks need to be 4wd. The Teckno MT410 is my favorite or the LMT.
Nobody panic… this is a dedicated RC Channel 😅🤘
I agree but imo for a first car RWD is easier to work on etc, but for driving experience 4WD would be the easiest to control@@FarmerFpv
Why do people race RWD at all? Is it for the added challenge? Genuinely curious as everyone seems to beat on RWD drivetrains lol @@TomleyRC
Its a pretty good rc for indoor competition, its also a bit high off the ground
Yes, needs a bit of tuning
I think you and the buggy did quite well considering all you did was put on carpet tires and turn off the gyro. It seem to be durable. It drove well. I think they will sell a lot of these. The in car video was excellent.
Thanks mate. It was a lot of fun… and about the right pace for me. Once they get to fast, I make more mistakes lol
@@TomleyRC When you say "about the right pace for me" I agree 100%. I feel the same way. when I try to go faster than my skills allow, I run into problems.
Nice driving! Not a bad car for a beginner wonder if they will have upgraded parts you can buy as you grow with it
Yes, so good out the box and a really nice car to race
The RO is compatible with the same upgrade parts as the higher-end models. Simply swapping some SO or MO standard parts is one way to go about upgrading this one.
7:01 i love" streamer" track
😇
That looked like you had lots of fun what a great little buggy I have have entered to win that I won't win I never do but would make my year if I do great video 😊
You never know mate. Good luck 🤞🏻
@@TomleyRC thanks mate keep up the great work 👍
Wow, I had completely forgotten about Yokomo.
Nice i got the ftx vantage
Nice footage ! Can i ask you what camera you are using on the car ?
Looks to be a great intro buggy for 2wd racing. Are we sure Tracks-arse didn't pay someone to take you out, and pay off the marshalls to make sure
Love the orange and yellow scheme. Good car but I’m in America 🇺🇸 and have to stick with team associated.
that's a nice flipping buggy buddy 😀👍👍👍👍
🙃
Hosim power!!!
Yokomo were the dogs danglies in the 80's... no surprise that it's good now.
One of my local model shops very friendly staff lots of goodies to be bought at MB MODELS 😀
Yes. Good bunch of lads 👌
What’s the weight? I think that plastic chassis may be good for stock racing
What camera did you use for the on board shots?
What camera on the car are you using Phil? Thank you
Guy next to you using a radio with sticks made me cringe. We used to rip on people using those radios when we were kids.
england is very nice, but the rain and cloudy days would put my depresion on overload.
You should hire MB raceway and have a youtuber buggy race :D
It looked like it did well on the track.
It was really nice. Had a lot of fun for sure
I can't find the rtr for sale anywhere. Any suggestions?
Raffle entered, here's to possible victory 🍻
Good luck dude
Can gyro be turned off on rb10
Uhh that was me with the bandit... Sorry! 😂😭
haha.. no worries dude. It was a good race :)
Hi Tomley, how come you didn’t review the Kyosho Mad Wagon?
No gyros in racing. I know a lot of people cheat tho. People always getting busted at my local track😅
Yes, it sure you need them really
Hi Phil, can you make a video comparing all wltoys transmitters? Thank you
375 is well out of my budget
You got Bandito’d.
Haha
Would love to pick one up but scared I would never get parts p
I wonder how this stacks up against the Associated RB10? They are both rtr's aimed at the beginner but the RB10 is more expensive.
I think the rear motor set up on the RB10 is a little more of a handful. From what I’ve seen, it struggles to turn due to the rear weight bias.
@@TomleyRC Thanks for the reply 👍🏼I nearly bought the RB10 but now I'm considering this Yokomo. It's about £90 cheaper too
I think the Yokomo will be faster on modern high-grip tracks quite simply because of the midship motor. Just get the setup right and you’re good to go. The RO is a good stepping stone that can be upgraded later to the highest-spec racing buggies available. It uses cheaper materials but the design is modern.
The RB10 is based on the plastic tub rear-motor 2WD platform that took the IFMAR world titles in 1995 (B2), 1999, 2003, 2005, 2007, 2009, and 2011 (B4.1). It shares most parts with the later B5 but the chassis shape and battery compartment is of the earlier style. So while it’s related to top tier buggies, the design is dated. You can fit B5 parts to it but it will never be a B6.4.
There are ways to tune a rear-motor buggy to do better on modern tracks but a mid-motor is the better choice.
Associated could have put a B4 body on the RB10 and compete with the likes of the Kyosho Dirt Master and G-Force Genova. Alas, they chose a modern ”the look will grow on me” body style and combined it to an oldschool chassis.
@@sauliluolajan-mikkola620 Very informative. Thank you for taking the time to write all of that👍🏼
nothing beats a yokomo buggy, all ima say.
LOL, I have never heard anyone pronounce it "Yuk-Koh-Moe" before. 😂
Whats the top speed?
alex kowaliuk here what are those little cars in your window by the computer screens?
Hard to go wrong when its only 200 quid.
Ummm… where can you buy this thing for 200 quid?
£200 for a RTR racer? Sounds good, except nowhere has any stock except the US and that bumps the price up to £300+ with shipping. Pity as I would love to get back into indoor racing this winter having done a bit of it back in the early 00's.
I think this will be over 200 RTR, but still way less than building a high end one, and just as good in the track
@@TomleyRC MB Models have it as £200 with a small reduction but no stock! Bit of an own goal if they put the price up after everyone's looked at it on the back of your video when they get them back in.
@@neildaniel8232 that's the kit, not the RTR. Pictures are a bit misleading I think. But says 'unassembled kit'
@@TomleyRCahh, that's sneaky! Wouldn't have spotted that.
If I don’t win one where can I purchase one ?
Yokomos are budget nowadays?
what's the point out of stock
It's "coming soon" rtr not yet released
I don’t deal on stock control dude… I just review them 😅
Traxxas = 💔💔😅
👍
👍
You raced talbot but used a picture of rc sparks ? 😂🤦♂️
It’s always Traxxas fault.. 😊
Depending on the price im in
300 bucks I'm out
It bad considering some of the cars I beat cost thousands
Yes Phil. Theres that British can do attitude. Wet weather, don't care.. Great video except the few seconds of "that voice" and the wig that accompanies it
🤣
Gyro is not legal in any Buggy racing so why they includet that i dont know.
They should have used that € to include alu schocks
Geez we need some American stuff we have lots of room and dirt and just awesome places state and national parks there’s like millions of acres sorry olde Europe we got here first.
Stupid Traxxas. They have no business on the track lol
GORGON ! come on dude I'm waiting to buy one I need your review !!!
"Budget" = $375
All I can hear is excuses for driver error.... 🤣😂
Gyro are banned for use in racing.
Will it do 3s Tomley ? Cheers
why do the rc company lie about the speed'?
got that question asked often at the track by speed hungry youngsters how fast is my xray xb2? dont know it goes full speed down the straights...
You're getting into real racing driver territory with those excuses.... "A Traxxas cost me the race.."
True story... with video evidence lol
@@TomleyRC Not spotting and avoiding the Traxxas, cost me the race... ;)
@@reldwob22 haha
Team associated did this already lol.
A Rear motor buggy performs way different to a mid motor like this.
Looks like a "TEAM ASSOCIATED RC/10" copy to me...
