Great video. Curious, what's stopping you from just drilling holes into the brick and use that as an vent? Save you the hassle of removing it to install the air brick. Would it be structurally unsound?

Why are you just pushing the broken brick into the cavity rather than pulling it out? Doesn't that affect the performance of the cavity?

Thanks for the vid, super helpful. If you were adding an air brick into a space that is larger than the brick itself, do you have any tips on how you would fill the void?

Hi, i couldn’t find any information on the web as to how to install air bricks into solid brick wall of an old house. I am planing to install additional two air brick at the front of the bay wall due to damp issues. One is already there placed in the middle. It is a solid brick wall house was built back in 1900. My question, due to structural reasons do I need to install lintel when installing air brick. Wall is pretty thick, more than 200 mm. Would appreciate any advice really. Many thanks.

Hi there, I find myself in the same situation! I had a good look at my street and it seems like no one uses any lintel. Just single or 2 brick high air bricks. Also do you want to install them in the actual bay wall or walls on the side? Main walls in mine are 2 bricks thick and bay wall is only one. Cheers!

Hi, I had to lift my floorboards and replace some of the joist due to the structural failure thanks to the wood worm and moisture build up in the void beneath board over the last century. Air bricks had been partially blocked, and garden level of my front garden was half way through to cover the front air brick. My plan is to lower the garden level at least by 30 cm, remove soil and replace through pebbles. French drain could be an option but hard to implement. I hope in doing this and installing air bricks I would lower damp issues in this room. I plan to place one air brick side on each side of the wall, so one left and one right. I am not sure how it’s in house of yours, but mine walls are pretty thick, bay window wall including adjacent left and right walls are 12 inch (30 cm), upper walls and side walls are two bricks thick (22 cm). After I have lifted the floor board i saw in lower left part of the bay wall some genius work someone had undertaken long time ago to provide two pipes (probably gas and water supply). They cut the wall open 20x20 cm without having installed any support for the wall. I have received contradictory feedbacks recently that one should install lintel and the again one that you don’t need to prep up a wall, and on the web there are to many confusing information. I guess I need to do more research on this topic. Cheers

That’s how to block the cavity up and bridge the damp and put the air brick around the wrong way you would have him work on your house Not🫣

Yeah. It’ll suck the air down from the top of the chimney instead of blowing it out the top.

Do air bricks have a right and a wrong way round? How do you tell the difference?

By the finish on them back roughy ragged front smooth and the squared holes have a slight tapper finish on the edge them.
