    I always just use a grout bag and my mortar is wetter than what you're using. After it dries to my liking, then I will finish tooling up the wall with my hand jointer, brush and then re tooling it all with my hand jointing tool.😊

    Looking good usual proper job have you tried using lorry fan belt as a rubbing tool i find it just a little more fllexible can follow the contours of the brick edge a little better different widths gives you a nice flush finish.keep up the fine work

      Most people are do’ers not thinkers. For instance with a hawk (board) and a few pointing trowels I would have gotten all he had done there before he did 1 bed joint lol the absolute slowest pointing possible.

      @BuildingwithBudd couldn't you advise them that it will damage the building even more, and cause damp issues? I only work with lime and I've never had a customer specify the mortar for me?

    • @michigansealantsolutionsll3341
      @michigansealantsolutionsll3341 Před dnem

      Hey bud, I’m sure you know what you’re doing but never give them the option. They hired you unless the customer is a general contractor who has engineered design then let that be on them. Joints look pretty shallow too but your tooling/finish work 😍 looks great. Maybe a small nylon brush or stainless steel brush to expose some edges give it that weathered look

  • @Jim_Newlands
    @Jim_Newlands Před dnem

    Is this a pre bagged mortar you are using, Budd? Or is your local sand perfect for the job? I've tried using mortar guns in the past, but the sand we have up here in the Highlands is nowhere near fine enough.....the gun gets clogged within seconds.

    • @BuildingwithBudd
      @BuildingwithBudd Před dnem

      It’s local sand Jim, we mix it in a bucket if it’s not quite wet enough it will clog up, also I think someone has been putting a bit of pea shingle in when we aren’t looking the rascals 😂👍

    • @Doug....
      @Doug.... Před dnem

      @@paulmarshall8012 Yes Paul👍. Budd did what i did by removing the nozzle swilling and plunging tube in water. At the end of a fill the mortar gets dried up at the nozzle end. Then you're good for a refill. Pump a little mix out first then go for it.

  • @Doug....
    @Doug.... Před dnem

    Nice one Budd. I did my patio pointing using the same gun ( not yours-my own 😜) . What i did was get a plastic funnel and place on the empty end and mark round with a sharpie. Then cut the circle out a bit smaller. Drilled a couple of 5 mm holes and screwed in some long bolts with 2 nuts each. To fill the tube put funnel over the end, hold down with two fingers and slap the mortar into the funnel. Give the whole thing a sharp tap downwards and the tube fills up quickly and solidly. Its not only you boys in the mysterious east that have good ideas. 😄😄😄

    Great video. Curious, what's stopping you from just drilling holes into the brick and use that as an vent? Save you the hassle of removing it to install the air brick. Would it be structurally unsound?
