- Had an opportunity to drive a new 270HP Peugeot RCZ R for a while, so I decided to take it to a closed course to find out how fast can the car go from 0 to its top speed (which is unfortunately limited to 254km/h because of its short gear ratio). Enjoy!

My 2.0 ltr diesel pumps out 163 bhp and although not an R is still super quick and scary. BEST toy ❤ ive ever owned. Then again....

The electronic limiter does almost nothing, thanks to those beautiful gear ratios it's almost banging redline on 6th.

254 indicated is about 250, which equates to 155mph, which makes sense given that the car is limited. Derestricted wouldn't get you much more speed given that the car is already at about 6,700rpm.

Mine is ecu remapped at 302hp ( 100octane fuel custom map )with a K&N panel filter and NGK red coils.
+ is unrestricted in speed.
Max speed reached 265 , which is , for a 1.6 liter , an out of this world result :)

Pretty good but too short gear ratios! This should have the gearbox from 208 thp 156 and top speed would be nearly 300 km/h (240 km/h at around 5000 rpm). At the same time that tall gearbox makes 208 underpowered at high speeds! Peugeot must have messed up with gearboxes between RCZ and 208...

Also I think its not necessary to rev up to 7000rpm this small engine and a small turbine. It has a peak hp at 5200rpm and then goes down. To catch up the max performance you should probably shift up at 5800-6000. BUT if it was an EVO or Supra with big turbo which gets the peak boost at 6500rpm....
The R version of the RCZ has a peak power at 6k, although most that have been on the dyno have an almost flat power curve after this all the way to the limiter. I agree on most turbo cars you are better off shifting earlier, but on the RCZ-r your better off taking it close to the limiter.

270hp for a 1.6L engine is a lot. The GR Yaris later almost dethroned it, with a cylinder leas. So Toyota had to tune it again to 300hp to finally dethrone it. And this is a production car, not a race car

No! absolutely not! I've tested it on a flat road with 100 octane fuel.
It's not all about horsepower, when you're talking a tiny car. The power to weight ratio would help you understand.

It's not particularly light, the RCZ-R has a kerb weight of 1355kg.

Back in the days when i was working for Peugeot, i've had the chance to drove one of them for a test drive, and they're working really well ! But this 1.6L is a little bit asthmatic when completely stock. One day, a customer with a 208 GTi (same engine, but with 62hp less) came for a regular maintenance and the guy had installed an admission kit. Even with less power, it felt way better than this one.
Same engine of the 208gti ? L O L it's TOTALLY different , all the components are forged. It's a race car on paper. I own one and it's a total freakin beast that literally blows away the 208 sorry. Mine with Just a K&n panel filter and a +25 hp ECU remap based on a 100 Octane fuel only Is running at 300 hp without a single issue in 2 years. And like 2 weekends in a month i'm up Alps on Curves and very Dangerous streets. Car is a MONSTER , feels like 2.5 liter , everytime i think it's a 1.6 it literally blows my mind..
