@@KayeandRemo I've only caught two sturgeon in my life. Both the same day on the Columbia. One was undersize, one was oversize and both were caught using shad gills. Most memorable day fishing so far. Keep enjoying life! Tight lines!

It does have a lot of oil. Score and frying is my go to method. I love my fish and rice 🤙🏽

The run peaks end of June. However, WDFW allows fishing for these until spring.
If you aren’t keeping shad, do not handle them like that. Use a net and keep them in the water. They are very delicate fish. Also, they kept pulling the hook out of their mouths. Shad have delicate mouths that rip through easily.

I would chop up and use for bait to catch salmon 🍣

They do. They do take a pretty good hook set though. Very bony fish though!
You do know gizzard shad or those Shad are really BAIT FOR REAL FISH !
Try chopping them up and putting chunks on your big rod and heavy weight and hope you have a truck to hook the rod to. If a real fish like is in those waters takes it.....your in for the fishing experience of your life !
