Fix and Ride | Installing a new electronic shifter, wheels, and tires on my Sync'r hardtail
VloĆŸit
- Äas pĆidĂĄn 25. 01. 2020
- Today we're going to do some work in the shop, and go for a little ride! Archer components sent me the new version of their D1-X wireless shifting system. The system will add electronic wireless shifting to ANY drivetrain. You could put this on a Walmart bike with a 6 speed cassette and it would work. You could then swap the cassette and use one with more gears, and you could still get it to work with the same derailleur. Today we're be using a Box 11 speed derailleur with a 9 speed cassette.
Features of the new system include better reliability, longer battery life, and improved shifter buttons. Many of the complaints I had on the last system were addressed.

Berm Peak Express on the topic of electronic shifting, what are your thoughts on Sram AXS??
@@maxMax-ns9pg I've tried it and it's great. There's really no fussing around with pairing or anything, and it's really clean. Buttons are nice. My only gripe is that puny 12 speed chain. People are snapping those left and right, and I'm kind of scared of it.
Berm Peak Express I can see that, Iâm getting it on my XC bike in February and Iâve never snapped a chain but itâs nice to see your take on it, plus Iâm loving the format of your new videos with you in the frame, keep up the great work!
Seth what is your thought which is better kenda or maxis tires.
When they come out with wireless brakes get those
Jack Guin tbh wireless brakes are a terrible idea, imagine bombing down a hill and your brake dies đŹ

@@DubbelYoo Or the greatest idea ever!

Hey love the videos keep them coming.
Just something I noticed as a tire industry veteran if all types, it's always easier to start and finish at the valve when mounting as it is in the drop center of the rim. That little bit makes a huge difference with a lot of tire products ease of installations. The indexing you mentioned is spot on đ

This wireless system is cool, but the shifter is hideous, damn.
Wonder why they don't make it more ergo similar to the AXS shifter?
@@ejhayes76 probably patent issues, Shimano and Sram are very ferocious about their stuff, that's the main reason why Uno's groupset is hydraulic instead of electronic.

Itâs great to see you mastering all the jumps and features of your trail like they have always been there, especially after watching the âlearning curveâ you went through during their build. But more than anything, Iâm slightly jealous you can hammer that trail KNOWING for fact, no one, hikers, bikers or fisherman are around the next corner. You actually have the place to yourself, and safety :0)

My first view on this newest channel of yours and it held my interest from start to finish! Nice work.
I LOVE videos of you fixing stuff! This channel is a great addition to the normal one.

Thatâs sick mate. Iâm gonna be getting the giant talon 1 2021 in metallic black.

Oliver Iâm not getting it anymore, Iâm gonna get a second hand dually instead
Im getting a Trance 1.5 2019 now.
Not going to lie, kinda like the simpler stuff like this. Very relatable and just nice to watch.
This is the best video you have posted in a long time. Nice job. Hope to see more like it.
I really hope Archer components succeeds. It's a great idea, basically you can run any derraileur on any cassette. Killing the planned obsolescence from giants like Shimano/Sram.
6:45 I made the exact same mistake with my D1x. Eventually I got frustrated with it and just clipped those rubber nubs off. :D
Shifter works great though. I'm using it to shift an 11-speed Sunrace cassette with my Box Two-E 9sp rear derailleur, on a very slightly bent derailleur hanger (just enough to make cable index shifters a bit sloppy), and it just works. And when I'm done with touring on my 11sp and wear out this cassette, I'll probably swap in an 8sp for flatland commuting.
Re: The batteries - I 100% feel you with regard to the annoyance of the battery swap process. Especially that tiny hex key for the shifter. A couple of things I've found that help just a bit:
1. You can use a hex key (and it's a normal size!) to open the battery door on the motor unit, instead of using a screwdriver.
2. You can use one of those little handheld magnetic grabber things to fish out the batteries in the motor unit.
Awesome! Thank you for sharing a really cool upgrade!
I really like your casual videos like this on mechanical stuff
the maximum pressure is 218 psi, so with all dropper posts you should put 800 psi

"Thanks for riding me today and I'll see you next time" great build, Seth!
Iâd be great to see a video that gives a full ride through of all the trails so far on Berm Peak - just raw GoPro footage would give a interesting POV
Chase Flanagan only issue is bit rate on CZcams can make POV stuff with trees just look a blurry mess.
âThanks for riding me today and Iâll see you guys later.â

I like this laid-back video format

How much is the wireless system
Just installed the D1-X on my Stache 7. It brought life back to my failing Sram GX 11 mech. All of the gears now shift smooth as butter.

theyre lighter and thats about it, the AXS system can also calibrate for a bent hanger.
@@shadow1fun777 yeah thats pretty nice but im pretty sure the tool for trueing your derailer hanger isn't that expensive. Its just a rod/lever with a screw in it.
@@shadow1fun777 i saw some other videos and yeah its easier for the aversge consumer. But im a bike mech, so setting up my gears to be 100% great isnt that hard. But for most people it is.
@@insanebmxthomas the calibration on the AXS is so it's easier to finish a ride after a wreck, and I work at a bike shop as well so I'm not stranger to using derailleur adjustments but the AXS setup allows for single gear tuning so I can set up each gear exactly how I want it
@@shadow1fun777 yeah thats the kind of adjustment classic derailers don't have. Again, i can see this being a selling point, almost for me, even. Im in the market for a DH bike, if i end up slaying derailers ill have a look! đ

fun fact: "sram" means "im shitting" in polish :D
2:16 - Completely pointless imo.
I line up the psi ratings on the tire with the valve stem, function over form.
Also, it usually seems to put the tire graphic on the less busy side of whatever graphic the rims has in my experience, filling out the wheel much more and making it look better imo.
Do you regularly put your tire pressure to the max of what they are rated, cause tire pressure ranges are pretty useless
That was such a good video best one I have seen you do!!!!
