Unfortunately alot of people assume that development of this version of Jungle book came after the 2016 Disney movie, but that isn't the case. Andy Serkis had been working on this direct book adaptation for years. WB announced the project in 2012, then a year later Disney announced that they were producing a Jungle Book Movie. It happened to be that Disney with their resources and money cranked out their film faster. Unfortunately WB basically backed out of moving forward with a theatrical release afterwards, probably because they were unsure if another movie based on Jungle Book would be successful which i believe was a mistake on their part.. and thats why Netflix ended up being the distributor. Its a shame because Andy Serkis did a hell of a job bringing the actual original material to life. It deserved a theatrical release.

This saved it from a potential bomb, and probably gave it more exposure than it would've otherwise. I wish this wasn't the case, but most likely is, and thus WB can't really be blamed for their decision.

In an interview Serkis actually stated that Netflix contacted Warner Bros during the earlier part of this year and asked to by the rights from them for a massive amount of money. Nah there is no way that would of happened. @@jasdeepsingh6831 Yes as well as a 3D television, but most 3D films are sold on blu ray in 3D, and I'm hoping Netflix decides to do a physical release of this with a 3D version as I know I and many others would purchase it.

@Dan Brunner While I admit to having a 'decent' 4K collection, it is only because I have purchased some 4K sets from overseas due to a 3D version being included. I fully, and sadly, accept that 3D did not catch on here in the States, but I am thankful there are a ton of sites to still get 3D from overseas, and I will not let it go. I can't say I have 205 films as you do (which is awesome!), but I'm around 100 or so, and I love them all. I truly feel people without 3D are missing out especially on some films that are truly meant to be seen in 3D. If someone from Netflix ever does read this, just know there IS a market for a 3D release of this film.

I just saw this today! IMO, based on this first viewing alone, definitely *not* what the critics say. 😊
I wish they *wouldn't* compare this to the Disney versions. Perhaps that's why they've been reacting to it the way they have been. It's understandable, but at the same time I feel it's not fair because this is *supposed* to be different from the various Disney incarnations. Andy set out to make a "Jungle Book" film that's a lot more faithful to what Rudyard Kipling originally wrote, and he did just that, right down to Shere Khan (who was EXCELLENTLY played by Benedict Cumberbatch, I might add) being crippled, but *not* letting that hold him back at all. 👍🏻👍🏻

I’m saying that Netflix is the biggest game in town right now in terms of streaming services (no disrespect to Hulu or DC etc.) but Disney is already removing Disney movies as well as series involving characters that they own the rights to in order to put on their streaming service which will open I believe December of next year which will feature
      All marvel,Star Wars,Disney features,
Disney even went out and bought Fox In huge part to add to their library for the service.
