NAFANUA - MSNZ18 Cecilia Tufuga

MSNZ 2018 - Cecilia Tufuga Fatu will be showcasing her talent of singing, acting, tau movement and gymnastics through her portrayal of the famous Samoan Warrior Goddess or Tamaita’i Toa Samoa called NAFANUA.
Nafanua was called upon by her father, Chief Saveasiuleo to avenge and save his people from the agony and struggles they were facing under the hands of the oppressors. Saveasiuleo brought forth war clubs for Nafanua to be equipped with in battle. The “Ulimasao” to take you to Samoa; “Faauliulito” as your weapon in battle; Tafesilafa’i to use against the enemies and “Faamategatau” to use in victory when you overcome the enemies.
Cecilia’s inspiration links to her heritage. Nafanua is from the Sa Tonumaipe’a Clan and Cecilia’s paternal grandfather, the late Tufuga Fatu was a Tonumaipe’a himself. Cecilia therefore is a direct descendant of Nafanua.
