- As part of Project Chimps' enrichment program, we provide stimulation to all of a chimpanzee's senses, including one through music. To date, we’ve had a children’s choir, violinist, classic pianist, harpist, ukulele, jazz, and native flute player perform for the chimps in what we have dubbed “Concerts for Chimps”.
- Zábava
The language of the universe. Music is lowkey just mathematical harmony to our ears.
Music actually originated from war chants and was used when commuting ancient war crimes
High key actually
❤
Then why does it impact emotions so profoundly if that's all it is
Please don't throw the word mathematic into music. That is beyond cringy.
Flutes never miss. Their sound is so deep in our core, that even our cousins know that it is special.
Humans: Standing, singing and staring.
Chimps: Humans are creepy af.
🤣🤣
They seemed to be most interested in the flute, my hypothesis is because they’re actually able to rap their heads around and understand an instrument as basic as that and they’re absolutely fascinated with a man blowing through a stick and pressing holes makes a special noise.
To: @huntercool2232 - Ha, ha! Indeed. They operate on 'wind', which is nature's own instrument.
Or they feel good vibrations
@@schorpioen7466 Ooooo bop bop
I love how chimps dance to the music. The giraffes get bouncy and that's pretty cute as well. It's good to see how they react differently from species to species.
That ukelele was a hit! Im so happy they have this time after a life of service
@RP i agree it's disgusting
But it is a service
That now they are out of
Pretty sure that was all unhappy, aggressive body language towards the ukulele. They weren't big fans.
I played my flute for a bunch of cows a few times. They absolutely loved it. TFS.💜🙏
I rode a cow once and he throwed me off. Now I know I should have played my flute. Where were you when I needed you? 🙃
@MSL .MSL 😀 Perhaps. Perhaps not. Does that make any difference?
Niceness !!!
@@bobdillaber1195 You are too funny lol I like it lol
@@bobdillaber1195 hahaha. Lol🤣😂🤣😂 you're too sweet...🌴✌️🦋
I just think they’re waiting for the drummer to show up.
The chimps would turn everything to drums lol
GM pick, My exact thought. Thinking Scottish folk or African!
The drummer?
You mean 'Animal' right!?
@@naomicampagne3775 Dave Grohl would be perfect.
@@gmpick9793 The chimps would think, "Finally! A party up in here!" 🤘🏼
The last part-native flute-brought tears to my eyes. The chimp who stood touching the window and staring into the eyes of the musician was heartbreaking (in a good way).
I would suggest heartbreaking in a bad way, for all of them.
Looking into eyes in the animal world is a sign of challenge. That coupled with the charge at the glass would suggest that the chimp was more interested in defending his territory then enjoying the sounds of the flute.
on the contrary, he did not charge or challenge the musician, he approached the window and listened to nothing more. We see that the flute is the instrument that chimpanzees have appreciated the most, along with the violin!
The chimp was very observant. I wonder if the chimp was thinking they could pick up a stick, blow into it and make music.
@@ralphrex9118 I would say bad and good. I get what you mean. It is horrible that the chimps were either taken from the wild to be put in tiny enclosures and experimented on or bred in the lab for research. We can't go back in time to change what was done to them. We can only learn and move forward. The good is the chimps are no longer in the research facility and will be well cared for and have a better quality of life then if they had to live out the rest of their days in a lab.
Very sweet. My kids and I have done this several times when passing a random pasture of cows, doing kids clapping game/songs. They all come meandering over until they're crowded and jostling for a look, it's pretty adorable.
Ranchers often use clapping and lyrical calling to bring cows in for feeding, they're all wondering where the feed is.
We once played a gig at a house garden party. Their garden backed onto a cow field. The entire herd of about 50 cows came over to listen. Wonderful experience.
Cows love music. Chimps or any of the other primates... not so much
I'm a puppeteer and I once performed at an adoption event where a group of puppies perked up their ears and took notice when my act began
Beautiful, these creatures deserve all we can give them after what we have taken from them
Especially in the wild.
Those beautiful creatures will rip your face off in the wild.
@@truckspank656 Just like leatherface.
True Truck, but for what we've done to the animals on this planet, it would be well deserved ;)
@@truckspank656 The atrocities we have done to our closest relatives on the phylogenetic tree of life are unspeakable. They are highly intelligent and emotionally sensitive beings. How would you like to be abused and exploited for science, entertainment, or bushmeat? If a chimpanzee attacks a human, they are doing it the only way they know how, and for the same reason we instinctively also seek retribution.
Where I used to work we had a caregiver who would bring his guitar..... I miss the chimps! They’re the best🥰❤️👏🏻
How nice of those people to come and play music for them. That's incredible. I think they really enjoy it. :)
Chimpanzees are amazing..thanks for doing this for them..
The choir looked like they were being held hostage.
The reaction to the native flute was truly beautiful ❤️
Classical music has very different tones than other genres of music. It is more calming, lowers blood pressure, and increases a better mental response.
Bless these musicians, this brought a genuine smile to me and I really needed this!
❤
Both of my cats came onto my bed to get a better listen to this too!
Thanks for sharing! Fascinating to see how the chimps react to music. The piano/keyboard seems to calm them, while the violin made them want to dance.
Those are displays
@@LindaC616 Please explain
@@bobdillaber1195
Chimps are territorial. If they show their top teeth, they are threatening. (Top teeth covered, bottom teeth showing = play face). Their hair can become piloerect, which indicates excitement, but also results in the appearance that they're larger than they are. When possible, they'll use nearby objects to throw/make noise with. I'll try to link something
@@LindaC616 Thank you. I knew nothing of this behavior beforehand. It is hard enough trying to understand what man does, let alone his closest relatives. 😄
@@bobdillaber1195
Lol, yw. I follow the blog at a small sanctuary in WA. They only have 10 atm, but will be getting 6 more of the 30 still in LA, looking for a home. They're pretty educational as well as fun. They also have a YT channel, csnw (Chimp Sanctuary NW). Following the blog, you feel like you get to know them as individuals.
These guys did seem to enjoy the violin (one of them toyed with the idea of a display) and the church organist, but the ukulele player definitely got a display there.
its so satisfying to see the chimps react the way they do, does my heart good. it obvious they really enjoy it bless their hearts. 💜
The video is edited. The chimps don't give damn about music.
@@francmittelo6731 Exactly what I was going to say, they look distinctly underwhelmed to me! Some of them just carried on eating and one was asleep until the music woke them up! The one at the glass was probably wondering if the flute was edible, lol!
@@HilaryB. Yes, I also can hardly see them reacting to the music at all!
I absolutely love you did this for them. Thank you.
YES YES, THEY ENJOY VERY MUCH
I LOVE THIS, MORE OF THIS PLEASE ❤️❤️❤️
TWO WORDS: JUST WONDERFUL!
That was beautiful for them... thank you. The ukulele... the harp and native flute were my favourite. It was touching to see the last one watch and listen intensely at the window.
@MSL .MSL are you? 😎
The more simple the music tune is the better... Toddler and children music tunes, I guess, are their preferences...
@@wernervannuffel2608 hi Werner... yes..you’re right. simple.. is a pure sound.
This was so incredibly moving...I ball the entire length of every video too but this was so precious. Its the only word that fits....precious. I wish I was closer, you would never be rid of me
That is awesome y'all did this with the chimps. It'd be interesting to see extended results; long term behavior and reactions to music on say a weekly basis or even more frequent. They loved the violin.
Yeah they seemed to like the Violin and Ukulele the best, but maybe thats down to the video editing.
@@russellprout723 it seems to me that the faster the pace and more up beat the song the more they reacted. Like you aren't gonna get into the mood for some heavy dancing if the harps playing for a slow dance
OMG, this made me so happy. Bless the musicians.
This is so touching. All animals love music and they love the gifts we give each other.
Beautiful to see the reactions of the chimps. The native flute and the violin were interesting to them.
One of you people should GIVE them some instruments -- a drum, a flute, a keyboard. See what happens.
Like koba ? See what happens ?
also give them some awesome recorded music with the controls to choose which one they want to listen to!!
My dog perked up and is really intuned with the Choir. Love it.
So which did they react to positively the most? I like the response with the flute at the end😄
I think the violin elicited the most visible reaction. Loved the whole thing!
The Ukulele reaction cracked me up 🤣
How relaxed they seem. And some really getting into the ukulele groove!
Music tames the savage beast. My cats are mesmerized by Debussy, Chopin, Bruckner, Elgar, and Henry Mancini and his ilk.
That was great. I loved it. I am so glad they did that for them they deserve to be treated to beauty like music. I wish I could hug all those chimps.
Not sure thatd turn out great for you
I would love to participate in this! I'd like to see this taken a step higher. Let the chimps participate by giving them some simple instruments that are tuned in the same key. Maybe harmonicas, drums, or tambourine ! I am sure they would have a blast if given the opportunity to do this.
I agree with your idea! It would be nice to see if a chimpanzee, or an animal is able to do something with a keyboard or a harmonica.
The guy playing 'Jazz' looks like the scientist from Independence Day
Cool video. Always good to catch up with the extended family lol
The guy from ID is the same actor as Data from Star Trek TNG :)
@@BritneyLaZonga I never watched Star Trek but I know of the characters. That's crazy
The first piece by Bach... full of soul.
Somebody loved that flute! What a wonderful video! Nicely done ❤️
This video brought tears to my eyes, tears of happiness and joy for these beautiful chimps. A very moving video watching the chimps enjoy the music. THANK YOU to these people playing for the animals ……it is very sweet of them and PRICELESS. Love it, there should be more people in this world like this musicians. God bless them all for loving the animals. A big THANK YOU FROM MY HEART FOR SHARING THIS LOVELY VIDEO. 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙌🙌🙌🙌👏👏👏👏👍👍👍👍♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️🌹🌹🌹🌹🐵🐵🐵
Love Love Love this --- but more importantly, so did the chimps!!!! Thank you for doing this for them! XOXOXOX
I just found this upload. Wow, it was awesome. I loved how the chimps reacted to the violinist when he was playing. These beautiful creatures loved the music and certain ones reacted in different ways. Some excited....some were soothed by it, and some swayed back and forth with the rhythm. They deserve the best we can give them for the rest of their lives.❤❤❤
Made me smile.
And cry
What a wonderful response they had. It proves that they share the same culture as you do.
The violinist seems to be a big Nintendo fan. I recognized music from both Conker and Super Mario. Neat.
I love this!!!!
The Native flute seemed to get the best reaction from the chimps. Something about the instrument that soothes the soul, whether human or chimp.
Those musicians were magnificent all of them thank you all
That was so wonderful you could see they felt the music in there soul bravo ❤❤
I can't understand why all the enclosures "cages" don't have music some parts of the day.
@MSL .MSL nahh they know what they’re hearing, they hear the same instruments as us they just don’t know that it’s “music”
@MSL .MSL doesn't matter. music is what it is and will have an effect. universal language.
It can add stress if they have ptsd
Thank you for giving them some form of gratitude for what they have given to humanity.
I’m bored to tears just listening....besides the fact I thought I was in church there for a minute....every creature great and small loves a beat...
Perhaps zoos should pipe in music for the animals everyday. They seem to really enjoy it. Seems to calm them down. I love the 1st chimp that was rocking out. So adorable.
These lovely creatures deserve respect, kindness, compassion and love……after all, we humans have done a lot of damage to them and their habitats and they have the God given right to live FREELY in their natural environment. God bless them all , they are magnificent and very beautiful creatures. 🙏🙏🙏🙏🥰🥰🥰🥰😍😍😍😍👍👍👍👍🙌🙌🙌👌👌👌♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️🐵🐵🐵🐵
They are enjoying the music just like a human would, 99% of our dna
Yes and they are imprisoned their whole lives for our interests
We get it Sarah, your virtues are strong and you also don't understand sanctuaries.
@@sigmasquadleader beyond the virtue-signaling, what I hear in SARAH H’s comment is more like why have we created a world where sanctuaries are even needed? hopefully they’re a bridge to a better world. btw the Project Chimps logo is subtle, beautiful
wonderful. we enjoy their simple ways imagine how they feel about us when we extend more of ourselves. thanks for sharing and its recent.
Chimps see more live music than I do
They are so special and important
I can't help but wonder what the reaction would be to a single human singing voice.
Bless the heart of the people who do this? Priceless
With the keyboard jazz rendition, I was half expecting the chimps to start clapping in the middle of the piece, just like at jazz concerts (for some reason!)
Thank You all.. it's beautiful.and my heart is so happy for them.
Music calms the savage heart of the beast.
Please do not tap on the window
Chimp: *punches* window
Yes music is the Universal language!!
I loved seeing them dance and get excited about it! Such intelligent, amazing beings! ❤
I love it when public gives something back to the Chimps
Seeing them dance is the best
Thank you for bringing them some joy
"They're a....jumping into the ceilings now."
"Okay, no more Mario music."
Watching them enjoy the music. So nice..
What a lovely idea. It made my heart happy.
I did not detect any ranking-agressions among the Chimpansees, when there was music in the air...
This led me personally back to John Miles... but ej, all love from here: Thanks to all the musicians in this video ! Well done !
Such beautiful souls 😍
Love this! My kitty, Minnie, was particularly enchanted with the flute!
These beautiful chimps deserve this music and much more after what the scientist have taken from them as young chimps . Thank You for Loving and Taking care of them!!!
I feel that good for them it be lovely for them to hear that from time to time even classical music be lovely.
Brilliance - Music is a binding universal linkage to appease the heart.
The animals reactions on these videos are some of the coolest things I've ever seen in my life. Almost makes we cry. I bet if you played guns and roses that they'd swim away as fast as possible. Is the baroque music or just normal classical type pieces. I know baroque is supposed to be good for babies and to calm and focus your mind when studying, etc.
Think that native flute made a very special connection. So beautiful 😍 💖
So Beautiful!
They’re jamming and I love it!
Something I just learned the other day. Though I knew that Chimpanzees are our closest living relatives, I didn't know that we are also their closest living relative. Chimpanzees are more closely related to humans than they are to the other great apes like Gorillas.
Total awesomeness.
"He walks with me and he talks with me". Etc. 💕
Just beautiful.
I’d love to see a type of jukebox where different buttons play different types of music. It would be interesting to see how often they would choose to listen, and if different chimps have different musical preferences.
What a lovely experiment. I do think that rhythm is the way to go . With the laments, and a lot of them were, maybe the next time try it with some percussion or beat .
Matthew Scoggins on the Uke was probably the nearest to a firm structured and repeating pattern they could hear and maybe I misread the clapping reaction but I do think he got the most interest .
When you watch these short videos of toddlers dancing to buskers, it’s the beat that makes them not able to stand still .
I’d love to see their reaction to a 12 bar blues , country music, Irish gigs or reels, a simple snare drum , pop, a rap or even ‘Uptown Funk you up ‘ by Bruno Mars . I don’t know anyone to sit still to that.
aww they have a beat!!❤️❤️❤️🤭🤭😂🤣🤭❤️👍🏼
Great!
More human than human.
🔆
This is beautiful
Beautiful 🧡🧡🧡
That flute touched the chimp's soul!
The ukulele part and the chimp in the cage reminded me of Johnny Cash playing in Folsom Prison... that monkey was ready to take a guard hostage and make a break for it XD
This is lovely. 🎶😍
I love the flute, it always touches my heart and soul, I think it did the chimp to
That's one of my favorite songs
Muchas grácias !!
