- In part 2 of this #CDHFTalks on stool tests with Dr. Karen Kroeker, she talks all about the Fecal Calprotectin Test - a test that is often used to differentiate between irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) and inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). She also answers whether the fecal calprotectin test replace an endoscopy in the diagnosis of IBD.

I was having bloody stool for 2 months and had a colonoscopy. They discovered ulcerative proctosigmoiditis. Before this, they ran calprotectin and lactoferrin and I was negative for both, in fact my calprotectin was only 43. It’s really surprising to learn I have IBD after testing negative on 2 stool tests + low CRP and ESR in my blood. My CRP is only 0.3!
I was tested in the US by functional medicine - calprotectin >342.9, lysozyme and SIGA both >1000, pancreatic elastase 113.5, short chain fatty acids 12.7, all among other things, but normal CRP and ESR. Prior to this GI shooed my symptoms out the door. What should I do?
Hi, did you see a GI specialist. Did you do a colonoscopy?
I got a fecal cal test of 1540…. And negative for all parasites and bacteria. I had blood and mucous on and off for weeks and have it intermittently now…. I also had a crp of 28… they said it was probably just a virus… does this sound correct to you?
