    Your doctor has told you that you may have something called inflammatory bowel disease and is sending you for some tests. I’ve been there - but wasn’t told what I was being investigated for - so let me help take the mystery out of diagnosing IBD. In this video I will talk about the diagnosis of IBD.

    I have a question- I had a high cal protecton level. Because of Covid I couldn’t have the colonoscopy and endoscopy until 8 months later. I was not diagnosed at that time but since then I’m having symptoms again, is it possible that the inflammation wasn’t there during the procedure and it was missed? Thank you

  • @poetic_mystery
    @poetic_mystery Před rokem +2

    Probably a silly question, (as a background, I have been in the "maybe it's IBD" category for quite a few years, I just haven't pushed very hard for a diagnosis and with the pandemic I hadn't been going in to see anyone at all), but there was a question of Crohn's disease that the doctors wanted to rule out with an MRI after an inconclusive colonoscopy/upper endoscopy. I was obtaining my past medical records recently, and noticed that I had gotten the MRI a few weeks after a week-long infusion of IV methylprednisolone to treat an acute case of optic neuritis that had occured around the same time. The MRI came back clear for inflammation so they said it couldn't be Crohn's, and I didn't question it at the time, but do you think the methylprednisolone could have altered the inflammation (or decreased it) in a way that would have made it appear clear at the time? I might try to schedule with another gastroenterologist since I'm still having the same symptoms that sent me there to begin with years ago.

    • @TheGrumblingGut
      @TheGrumblingGut  Před rokem +1

      It is possible that the methylprednisolone had helped to reduce the inflammation. It is always best to try and obtain as recent as possible imaging. You're well within your right to want to see another doctor if you feel that's what's best for you

  • @avelardoangulo9583

    I recent went to a gastroenterologist because I was having diarrhea once a week. So the doctor told me to do bloodwork & a stool test. The stool test came out normal but the doctor told me that I have a fatty liver. So Im still having diarrhea once a week, i hope its not Crohns disease. The next step will probably be a colonoscopy

    Q: I was told the my CRP was really high and my CT w/ contrast showed that my Small bowel walls was thicken by 9mm and he believes it’s Crohn’s. My daughter was diagnosed and now my son is now being diagnosed for this disease. What do you think?

    • @TheGrumblingGut
      @TheGrumblingGut  Před rokem

      There are research studies that do suggest crohn's disease can be hereditary as it is not uncommon for those with IBD to have a relative or an immediate family member that has it as well

  • @TheAerovons
    @TheAerovons Před rokem +2

    Will a doctor help you if you have all the tests but do NOT want a colonoscopy? Surely they can see the inflammation with the CAT scan, and the treatment for both UC and Crohns is very similar.

    • @TheGrumblingGut
      @TheGrumblingGut  Před rokem

      It can be difficult to say for certain if scans show crohn's or colitis because there are other conditions that can show similar signs on scans so it would be difficult for doctors to be able to provide a diagnosis or treatment just based on the scans alone. Having a colonoscopy will allow doctors to see what is going on inside and be able to give them a complete picture of what a possible diagnosis could be by visualising the health of the intestines and the severity of the inflammation. Hope that helps 😊

    Hi, Thank you for your video - I had two calprotectin tests done and the first one was Borderline at 173 ug but the second jump to 3305 ug!...I have no pain, just on and off diarrhea for a month. I am having a Colonoscopy in March but I am convinced they will find nothing. It just seems so strange, especially with the second test result! I wondered if you had any thoughts for me on this?
    Thank you :)

    • @TheGrumblingGut
      @TheGrumblingGut  Před 3 lety +1

      Most of the time when we are in a flare we don't have the tests on the same day but rather when we've just overcome it so tests results never show the true reading. When it comes to the calprotectin test there are many factors not just ibd that can give a high result so hopefully your colonoscopy will help answer any questions your doctors have
