Buddy hired an HVAC contractor that wouldn't come back to fix the work they messed up. Website said licensed, bonded, and insured. But when we looked up their LLC on the state website they had been defunct for two years and he was probably operating illegally. Can't trust anyone.

In the end he ends up completing the work and the net cost is over $75,000
Well being a lawyer isn't necessarily about proving someone is not guilty. It's about protecting their legal rights. Without that, prosecutors can get away with anything

Have you ever hired a contractor? I'm not sure how it works where you are from. In my area, generally the way it works is, the contractor gets 1/3 on the signing of contract, 1/3 when the job is started and the final 1/3 on completion. This protects both parties from losing the entire cost of the job. It is much more likely that a contractor get screwed by a customer than the other way around, much like when an unarmed man is shot by a cop, the news sensationalizes it, but the opposite happens much more frequently it just doesn't get covered, same thing with contractors, they get screwed over all the time in one way or another, but robs show wouldn't do very well if he covered every person that was too broke to pay their bill. Most contractors are just regular guys, they aren't multi millionaires for the most part, losing 10-20 grand could sink the business, along with the handful of people he employs.
More local news outlets need guys like Rob. Seriously. This is what your local news is supposed to be doing. Looking out for the people in the community. I love it.
