the casting of adult Aemond was fantastic; i’ve been enthralled with Ewan Mitchell’s acting. The subtleties in his dialogue and the way he’s just so SLICK when he’s with other characters is so much fun to watch. Even down to his vocal tone in scenes. and it doesn’t hurt that he’s easy on the eyes. ☺️
I think adult Aegon has been more dynamic in his acting. Aemond I feel like froze in 1 single expression/ vibe the last few episodes
I agree. Wasn't it odd tat as children, Aemon was the short and not too handsome kid. Ageon as a kid was the Taller of the two. As adults their physicality switched to compete opposites. Aemon is the tall, lean Aryan lookin demolish one and Aegon is now the shorter, less attractive of the two.

I think the biggest thing to me is that if team green were a little less focused on their personal interests and more focused on utilizing each member as a part to a greater leadership unit they would have been an actually formidable powerhouse.
I think the greens are like the Lanisters in the modern story, they all think they are uniquely qualified to be in charge and so are always in power struggles in thier own family, but are all begrudgingly working against a common enemy, im sure its going to be exploited for some fun conflict this season.
No the blacks are the lannisters, the greens are the baratheons and the velaryons are the Starks held in a captive like situation by rhaenyra’s cause. Rhaenyra had three bastard children and passed them off as legitimate just like Cersei. Vaemond was killed for calling her out and saying that she was usurping the velaryon family’s titles with an illegitimate child of no velaryon heritage. Just like Ned stark. Except vaemond had more reason to care because his own family was getting screwed over, whereas for Ned, it was only his best friend’s family. You can’t support the Starks in Game of thrones and apply that logic to supporting Rhaenyra. That would be a double standard.
@@CaseyIshida There are no factions or characters in the fire and blood story that act as a perfect mirror to one in a song of ice and fire, we are supposed to examine the modern conflict through this lense not the other way around, the greens however are purposely written to be similar to the Lanisters, we're supposed to compare them, this doesn't mean they're "bad" or "good" that has never been Martins style of writing, but they are similar, they where written to be. The starks in the modern story aren't even the "good" guys they're just the honorable ones, these characters are just too complex to determine there objective morality.

@@rexibhazoboa7097 oh I see how that can be unclear, I mean the story from the books that starts in a game of thrones, and that we are still waiting for the continuation of, I think of this as the modern story, and the others like HoTD and Dunk and Egg to be stories about the past of the current story, even though they are being created after the majority of the modern one.
@@CaseyIshida They are not the Lannister's as though Cersei was married to Robert, she was not heir to anything. Rhaenyra is named heir by her father. Why is this conveniently forgotten? The Green's are usurping Rhaenyra, the same person they bent the knee to and this was done at Otto's insistence because he feared Daemon.
Larys’s official job before becoming master of whispers is Lord Confessor, which basically means Torturer In Chief. Yikes. People gloss over that fact waaaaaaaaaay too often when discussing Larys Strong’s role in the Dance of Dragons. He is a man with utterly no scruples, who can torture people day in day out and still interact (relatively) normally with the rest of high society.
The fact that his job was to torture information out of prisoners in the Black Cells at the Crown’s behest, and yet he still seemingly limps around smelling flowers relatively unbothered, and even has enough headspace left to be one of the most skilled players in the game of thrones-moving his own pieces around the chess board and imparting truths or half-truths as best suits him-that he has enough time and energy left over to see to his own machinations and desires, shows how truly, sincerely without conscience he is. Yes he’s probably a warg and a greenseer, BUT DONT FORGET WHAT HIS JOB IN THE RED KEEP WAS BEFORE HE GOT PROMOTED. A MAN LIKE THAT CAN NEVER BE FULLY TRUSTED, NO MATTER HOW MANY TIMES YOU LET HIM JERK OFF TO YOUR BARE FEET!!
Lary's Strong, when compared to Lord Petyr Baelish in GoT, makes the latter seem almost likeable...

Aemond reminds me of a Star Trek Romulan. The Ronulans have emotional control on the surface, but their intense emotions surface often and color their decisions. Aemond and Aegon are both deeply emotional beings. It will be interesting to see how that plays out.

Don’t know how I’ve never thought about this, but I just realized that as one of the only known she-dragons, there’s a non-zero chance that Vhagar was Arrax’s mother (or maybe grandmother), making it possible that Aemond and Vhagar both become kinslayers in the same moment
While that detail might have significance in GRRM's magic, some real-life reptiles do become hostile to their own young once they grow up, so it might also be normal.
I think it's pretty clear given Ages and names that Syrax is the mother of Vermax, Arrax and Tyraxes (the strong boys' dragons) at least in the show. She's a she dragon and still producing clutches. Vhagar is probably too old to breed.
Tessarion (Daeron's dragon) is also a female.

The dragons are probably genderless or genderfluid, and it is mostly a mystery of how they reproduce. Heres a quote from the asoiaf wiki: "Historians, like Septon Barth, Grand Maester Munkun, and Maester Thomax, disagree on the mating habits of dragons. Dragons lay large, scaled eggs to reproduce. According to Archmaester Gyldayn, and agreed upon by Maester Yandel, the ability of a dragon to lay eggs is proof that said dragon is female. When a dragon is never observed to have laid eggs, this is taken as proof that it must have been male. However, according to Barth and Maester Aemon, dragons have no fixed gender, but are “now one and now the other, as changeable as flame”. Barth believed that dragons can change sex at need, but Maester Anson believes this to be erroneous, and states in his Truth that Barth's statement is simply a misunderstood esoteric metaphor."

At the start of the season:
1 Otto
2 Alicent
3 Larys
4 Aegon
5 Aemond
6 Criston
By the end of the season, I think Aegon will be the most powerful member of Team Green and he'll elevate Aemond's status with him. While Otto and Alicent will fall below Larys. I think Otto will attempt to take Alicent down with him since she is most likely the reason he is removed as Hand. I'm probably wrong about Criston specifically because that guy just does whatever he wants. Actually wouldn't be surprised if the show simply makes him King by the end. He's the biggest wild card out of this bunch(which is saying a lot as there are a lot of absolute rogues here) and has the thickest plot armor.
Aegon is toothless without Aemond though. The Blacks thought Aegon was a joke.
@@toxicmasculinity6554agreed I think Aemond should rank higher and after Otto is fired he might rank lower than both Aemond and Alicent. Cole could definitely be moved to the top position as Aegon will be closer to a puppet. The true question is Larys, my guess is Larys is going to be behind the scenes with his power and eventually play both sides like Littlefinger.
Otto and Alicent's schemes and influence will come to an abrupt halt when Aegon realizes that he has all of the power, now that he is king. That will make the Hightowers finally understand that the "idea that we control the dragons is an illusion."
In order of influence:
1) Aegon- King Chaos will look to more aggressive influencers as the war rages on.
2) Criston Cole- He will be one of the primary advisors that Chaos turns to.
3) Because of this Alicent may still have some sway on her son, through Cole. Though I suspect even that will dwindle as more and more people die.
4) Aemond- will wield considerable power over the war, and his brother's mindset, due to his status as Vhagar's rider. This combined with being the only other dragonlord involved in the fighting (currently) on Team Green will ensure that Aegon heeds his brother's counsel.
5) Otto may still be able to push his grandson towards his (Otto's) own goals if he can get his daughter to agree with him, and then use her dog, Cole to convince the king.
6) Larys- is an absolute wildcard and could fit anywhere on this list. He will eventually make himself indisposable to Aegon, during his hour of greatest need, thereby cementing his influence and power over the king, but that will only be sustained until Aegon is no longer useful to Larys.
I wish they would’ve explored Criston Cole’s persona as “The Kingmaker” more in season 1. I really think he’s the true kingmaker on team green at least in the books. He was Rhaenyra’s champion and number one supporter and also lord commander of the kingsguard which guarantees you a spot on the small council. When the greens are able to get him to defect to their cause this is a huge boon for Aegon II. This gives his cause much more legitimacy since Rhaenyra’s top supporter is now Aegon’s supporter. Also, he’s beloved by the small folk since he himself isn’t of high birth which gives Aegon legitimacy with the small folk.

It is almost impossible to remember every bit of expository development and quiet, character moments we get to read. It's like 827821 TB of pure data lol. I know our beloved creators are a highly intelligent group but the way they can recall fine details is really impressive . there is probably some research and preparatory work to be done but they still know a ton even when put on the spot. Loremasters are just epic like that

Cole puts on a mask so he can feel like somehow they fukd up with him and were supposed to back him. And I guess he thinks he has to role with it. And doing out of pocket things you have to say "I did that" to. I mean they have to be as smart as dogs and dogs do some manipulative stuff. Maybe they are closer to birds though. Admittedly i have read the entire book, but I won't get into spoilers out of consideration for the many new fans who may not have read it yet. However, I feel a lot of his choices and actions support the idea that anger out of being rebuked is a major force driving him. If you reply citing something from the book, please post a warning and put some spaces in before writing them so people don't accidentally get spoiled🤓

I think that during the war not only will Otto lose his position as hand of the king. But will literally lose his hand and later become the Sheppard. The one who leads the death of dragons in the dragon pit.

@david lightbringer I think Aegon and Aemond’s relationship is a foil to Viserys and Daemon’s relationship. Aegon is smart to keep such a strong sibling close because he knows it makes him more feared while Viserys pushed his strong sibling away making him weaker in the eyes of others.
I just realized, @10:27…we actually see the burnt corpse of Lord Lyonel Strong being carted away. We are a rotund looking man, with a bit of a belly, laying beneath a shroud that is blood soaked…and I believe the head shows a bearded man, with a balding scalp, though much of the features are either burnt away…OR the shroud is actually covering his face, and what I’m seeing as his beard is just blood smears on the shroud.
Either way, I’d never realized that they DO show that…
I tried to peep the other body, which presumably would be Harwin…but from what little I can make out it seems like maybe the limbs are missing? Perhaps he was much more significantly burnt because he was actually directly exposed to the flames whilst lyonel was in a room filling with smoke?

Hello David. Thank you for your videos, they are fantastic. I love how you combine in depth content with humour and I think how you narrate the passages from the books is super engaging and that is not an easy thing to achieve! I am new viewer, i am finding it tough to know where to begin, many of the videos I watch you reference other videos and in those you reference other previous videos and I keep being indecisive about if I should switch or keep with it. As a new viewer it would be amazing to be able to click your channel go to like a greatest hits play list watch them in order and feel up to speed. A viewer could then know okay now I got the basics, I can go to more specific stuff like prophecy or disasters or timeline stuff. Not a criticism, I just thought maybe you might welcome the perspective of a new viewer who is excited to engage with your back catalogue.

Well if I remember rightly, Tyland Lannister is the current master of ships, and since they are always clashing with the ironborn they DO have a measure of naval power (we haven't seen the ironborn yet they could be a potential player too who knows). Plus, the Arbor is close to Oldtown, the Redwyne fleet is nothing to sneeze at. Nothing quite measures up to the Velaryon fleet though, you're right on there being a definite void.
Do we have confirmation whether Daeron Targaryen will be in HotD? I've heard conflicting things

Very good video and the ideas for the dynamic between Aegon and Aemond are very interesting, but for that, the writers would have to be less biased against the Greens, but that's not possible unfortunately. For a story that's been sold where both sides are morally grey, it's a very bad work.

The power is more consolidated on the black side because they have a strong monarch, so it's basically Rhaenyra and Daemon. Corlys and Rhaenys pretty much do as theyre told, but we did discuss the possibility of Corlys disagreeing with Rhaenyra in the team black preview we did last week

Larrys Strong, he's a wildcard, for sure. I think he has a agenda of his own, probably in cahoots with Alys Rivers who we have yet to see. I think they are playing both sides against eachother.
Perhaps they want to put a Strong on the throne, that is one of Rhaenyra's kids. That would make them team Black, but in order to have any influence over that king they would need Rhaenyra and Daemon gone. As well as the Valaryons. And all of team Green. Not very likely.
I think it has more to do with magic and prophesy. The Strongs are Old Gods worshippers. Could they be guided by the greenseers perhaps?
Much of the war, back and forth, is centered around Harrenhal, controlled by the Stongs, run by Alys Rivers, a Strong bastard. Depending on the roumor she could be Larrys aunt and wet nurse and/or his sister. She could even be his mother. All agree she's a witch! She claims to see visions in clouds, pools and fires! That would make her a fire magic user like Melisandre but without any signs of R'hllor religion.
The House Strong sigil has blue, red and green stripes on a field of white. It could be a sign of some sort of synthesis of different branches of magic. Alys seam to have water magic, fire magic and connection to weirwood magic. Seeing things in the clouds could even be considered air magic, and airomancers are supposed exist in Asshai, according to The World of Ice and Fire.
Anyway, the House sigil may also be interpret as harmony between the different magic poles. The White could represent air but also ice...
The green aspect of magic seems to be about balance and harmony. In order for nature to function we need we cannot have a winter forever nor a summer without end.
There is obviously a lot of dragons at this time! Enough to start a new Valyrian Empire if the should unite. So I think the greenseers are influencing Alys to

Aegon can't be in charge because there no build up for him to be leading and making the plans regarding team green. He is portrayed as drunk and clueless about the politics of the realm. I believe he will struggle expressing authority because he is not respected by family. That's what will make him go to rook rest to prove himself. Larys will see a prey in aegon as he is not taken seriously and start manipulating him. Aemond won't be in charge unless he become regent. he is the second son. He will be useful mostly in battles. Criston is all about Alicent. She made him lord commander and I think she will be influential again in him being hand. Fabien said Criston wants what Alicent want so he will remain loyal to her. Otto wont fall under anyone's authority He is (in his mind) the ultimate puppet master. I expect him to be on solo mode working his way out, ralying support and getting the triachy to support them. Alicent is the closest one to be in charge because despite being Aegon's pupetter (The same way she was Otto's puppet), she has the loyalty of the hand who technically have the power of governance. She is the focal point of the Greens. Everyone in power is directly linked to her and their rise is the fruit of her work, even Larys. I'm here for the drama.
