Guide is somewhat outdated. I’m making an update, but as of right now, make a good port guard and protect those ports. Italy loves to strike those ports and run wild.
unfortunately it is, i played it 3 times, and every time italy would only enter a civil war in june-december 1938 by which point they would already be in the axis. looking forward to a new guide. all the best.
Hoi4 is the kind of game where you repeatedly state that you hate the game and call its mechanics extremely stupid while having the best time playing it

Sometimes it’s the best thing in the word and sometimes it’s just frustrating. At this point i m convinced we are addicted to gambling. In my game the Romanians joined Ethiopia instead of the axis and it made it so much more fun

For extra cursed factor, get Tito before you do western focus. That way, you will get Peter II as king, with Tito as prime minister. Monarchosocialist Yugoslavia!

Hey, found your vids a bit ago - you make some very relaxing and fun to watch stuff! Because you mentioned people optimizing things a bit in the comments, I thought I’d throw in my 2 cents as someone who has played the decentralized Yugo path way more times than I’d care to admit:
To start, I’m not sure if the “Reinforce Old Alliances” focus has some sort of hidden effect to make guarantees happen more consistently or faster, but as far as I’m aware doing the Italian Friendship Treaty is always better as it’s a shorter focus and doing it doesn’t lock you out of anything.
Also, to prevent your puppets from trolling you out of Italy, make sure you request the territory they occupy that isn’t cores ASAP, as I think the reason they wouldn’t give you anything before is because they had cores on that Italian land. They should give up the non-core stuff though, at least from all the times I’ve played they have!
I really appreciate the advice! Especially when it comes to Italy and the puppet trolling. I’ll do some tests on the reinforce old alliances focus to see if that helps you get those guarantees.
I get why you’ve played decentralized yugo so many times. This was some of the most fun I’ve ever had in hoi4. It just feels so good to tear yourself apart, and then turn into one of the most powerful nations. 10/10.

@thetibbiesshow if ask control of non core territory(veneto), everything will be okay.... but i have met problem with french guarantee, they have dropped it from me..

Great Guide will follow :). If you run into the issue that Romania joins the axis way too early, you can join Comintern. With Germany having only Romania as an ally it is very easy to win against Germany. You also get Austria this way if you manage to get at least 20% Warscore.
Hey Tibbies... want to thank you for a great achievement guide. Took me five tries because I kept screwing up like accidently taking that one Italian port on the coast so I couldn't wipe out more weak Italian divisions, etc. When I finally attacked Romania the damn Ethiopian African Union joined their war because I forgot to do a truce with them. Took out Italy the 2nd time easily but nobody would give me military access to get close enough to have an easy naval invasion. Took a year to finally get naval supremacy to launch from north Africa and by then (June 1942) Germany was getting steam rolled so declared on them to get enough war participation to claim Austria. All in all it was fun but frustrating at same time but another achievement under my belt. Thanks again.

if you shift+rightclick to an enemy division, your division will support attack, so you dont have to press "cancel" button everytime.
yes, but this only works if no troups are assigned on the frontline. there must be the red ! on the left side of the divion, otherwise they will stuble into the port
What is the button to "cancel" the divisions
The argument for united Croatia and united Bosnia is single-state countries are programmed to take industrial foci last. So you actually want both Croatia and Bosnia be united for them to start getting those civs and mils early on.
While you’re are right, by the time I annex them, most of the puppets go through enough of their focus trees that they actually do most of their industry branches before I get the chance to annex them. I’ll take 2 chances for more factories over 1 any day.
One thing that was not shown in the beginning of the video, that is kind of crucial, is that you should keep upgrading your agency from the start, otherwise you won't have a slot for the second agent.

In my game romania joined the African Union lmao it was probably the luckiest game i have ever had lol
Btw. You can queue up a single cavalry division before the civil war breaks out and you will always get to keep it. Therefore you can just deploy it in the south and get the victory points down there and end the war a lot sooner.
It’s also quite handy to keep some divisions in the homeland since Italy will constantly naval invade you (or break out of the encirclement if you don’t pay attention)
Just use bulgarias manpower for those port guards.
Edit: I take it back the soviets crushed the Germans before i was able to declare on turkey so now i have to fight the allies

Great video! I didn't know you could flip communist and still Balkanize yourself, I'll definitely need to give it a try.
Also, piggybacking off what someone else said, I don't know if you know this, but if you hold Rome, if/when the Italian Civil War breaks out, it'll become your puppet, ignoring all of the headache with Dalmatia. It's also nice to snipe it or ask for control during games where you have allies so you can get a free Italian puppet while being a minor nation for example!

Yeah, something happened in the Nordic update that made Romania weird. I’ve seen them go to war against hungry in historical and join the allies far too many times since then. I’ll probably update this guide, but I’m really just hoping a game update comes out and fixes Romania.

I don’t remember which ones, but some of the puppets are hard coded to not take industrial focused until like 1941 or smthn, making it better to make fewer, but bigger puppets
The only issue I had with this was getting naval invaded in my first run, but to fix just put some of ur puppets on the ports. Also, not sure if it happened here, but let Italy invade Albania after you cap, and set up in the mountains in Macedonia, they sent like 15 divisions there
it would be easier to get montenegro in, there you only have one tile, a littler bottleneck, to defend instead of two, i just had this, that there is a little gap where a titalian divion went straight to my capital. with mazedonia you need two tiles to defend

Hey uh, does the Battles For Bosphorus DLC needed here? Since it took me to the end of July to beat the Bulgarian down and Puppeted, War Prep, and Resources Rights. Since I don't have Battle For Bosphorus DLC here, Bulgaria doesn't have the debuffs modifiers so it took me quiet a while to defeat them.
Followed the guide two times in a row, Romania joins Axis in Feb 39.
Are you using all dlc?

Nice guide, really easy to play along. thank you for that. One question: Is there a way to prevent Romania joining the Axis in 1939? In your guide you are fighting them in early 1940, i started the war with Romania in October 39.
I’ve noticed that Romania joins the axis earlier too now. I wonder if paradox changed something recently in the Romania AI code.
If Romania does its Axis alignment focus, they will join the axis immediately after. If you can prevent them from doing that focus, they won’t join the axis (most of the time). Unfortunately, there’s not much you can do though. Just cap them quick, and use paratroopers if you have to.
yea really unexpected. Anyway to circumvent the problem I made a claim on Romania together with Greece, and Greece should fall fast.
Quite new player here (switched only recently from EU IV). My main problem is the war with romania, in fact more the guarantee of france. As far as I understand, there is a focus for them ("buy some more time" or smth like that) where they drop the guarantee for yugoslavia, right before joining the allies. Can they re-guarantee after that or is that the moment where that strategy is gone? THX!
I dont understand what Im doing wrong. Each time I try to invade Italy they just have triple the troops on their border than shown in the video. I did all the steps explained but still the same problem. Could someone help???
THIS is exactly what happened to me in three tests. Still can meme the shit out of them at the port, but until the border over at slovenia/croatia is weak enough to start an offensive it's almost impossible to finish the war pre-end of 1938 and italy joins the axis...
New update changed some things. Revert to avalanche game version if you want similar results to what I got in the vid. I’m coming up with an updated strat, but it may be a while before I have time to do so.
Next time dont create a front or a fall back line, just have divisions on all tiles surrounding the port and alt attack, that will make your troops support attack and they will never walk in
Was going for this achievement today but after getting British and French guarantees my puppet decided to not care about the naval treaty’s and then france declared war on my puppet bringing the entire Allies into war with me, just average hoi4 nonsense

Does subject annexed Albania still get a Yugoslav core by the focus? I don’t have the game open arm, and I’m wondering if you fail to get the core because Dalmatian Italy owns it. (Or am I misguided on what’s cored anyway)

Is there something to prevent naval invasion ? I mean, yugoslavia barely have a fleet so it's kind of a free pass for Italy to just invade, wether I puppet or annex Albania, so they just steam roll through my lands. Sadly, they keep invading me despite still owning that silly small port.....
And I really like when AI can "cheat" by joining a faction while at war when I can't, I'm bad at microing (And my wrist hurts) so it's really frustrating to "loose" the achievement because I just needed in game 2 months (I mean, cap Italy in December 1938 shouldn't be punished this way, it's not like I've took them down by 1940).
I got into trouble because when Japan declared war on China the world tension didn't go high enough for the UK to guarantee me. Paradox and their RNG...

So what are your division templates for invading Germany as yugoslavia? In one playthrough I invaded the Soviets first, and then I have a hard time pushing into Germany, red bubbles everywhere.
72 27wdths (9infantry-3arty) to push, and the bulk of my army is 18wdths of pure infantry with support arty to just hold the line. The main reason I can push though is I have tons of CAS.
I go to war with Romania in February of 1940 - one time Germany declared war on my puppet (over Slovenia I think) and the other Romania joined the Axis early. Any tips you can offer for keeping the Axis off my back for this run? :)
If Germany does an early war with you, I’d just hold, try to beat Romania slowly, and then maybe even join the Soviets. Did the USSR guarantee you?

It’s a shame you now have to fight the Germans with Italy as your ally or that’s at least how i did it. I do not understand why they made Hungary station troops on their victory points, they just love to see us suffer. On the other hand france still doesn’t, if they just had someone in Paris it wouldn’t work with them anymore either
In my save, when I finished the war justification against Greece, Romania guaranteed Greece and joined the Axis. I'm afraid that Germany would be called in so I couldn't declare war on Greece.
I would have just chosen friendship with Italy over reinforce old Allie end because 35 less days
romania joined the axis in december 1939 for me not march 1940, i would suggest people to boost ideology against them to prevent fascism going above the needed 30% to join the axis
I don't usually do this but i quited, uk was not garanteeing me, Italy joined the axis, i had zero manpower my puppets troops where depleted, i dont know where it started to go wrong, i followed your steps
In my run Italy never run out of units. Jesus, I have never had one achievement run same as you. I don't know man...
Without watching you play, I can’t tell you what you are doing wrong. All I can really say is, be patient. Micro is king, don’t field marshal attack. Using zara to wipe Italian units out is incredibly helpful, especially since the Italian ai will pull troops off your border to guard the port. Attack when you see a weak spot in the Italian army, use troops to pin. Don’t play on max speed, go down to speed 2-3 at most. Italy has more manpower than you, more factories, and even sometimes German volunteers, so they will always have troops. When they attack you, wait till they run out of org, then you attack. Avoid the mountains as best you can, they suck to fight in. Once Italy loses a core, they will automatically start down the path to a civil war, so worst case scenario, just hold. Push slowly once you feel confident. I promise you, it’s not hard at all.
Other than fps map, what other UI mods do you use
“Satisfying puppet and country names” is another i use often. Most of what I use is Ironman compatible so there’s not many out there.
6th to last achievement. burbon spain and ethiopia after this.
Bourbon Spain was the most difficult achievement for me to get. Idk why I can do anarchist Spain easily, but playing as the carlists are just the worst.
Ethiopia is a ton of fun and I plan on making a few vids on them for sure.
Managed this on my second go but I messed up the Dracula achievement because I made Romania a puppet of transylvania instead of giving them territory 🤦♂️😂😂
Yeah it’s also dumb that you already have them as a puppet too. So if you forgot that and didn’t call them in, you d have to do it all over

Paradox changed Italy’s code a bit so now they navel invade even if they have a border with you. It’s dumb but I get it.

I promise you it’s not. If you follow this guide exactly, you’ll fail. You’re gonna have to fail a few times and tweak this strat to make it work. I’ll eventually update it, but yeah, it’s a lot harder now.

Don’t take Zara and they shouldn’t navel invade you because the ai sees you have a front open with them there already. You can also make a cheap port guard if need be.

I just did the same game, but i didn't focus on the achivments, i focused on coring as much land as possible. Now i have 39.65M Core manpower, 226 factories and all that by fall of 1940. Tick Yugoslavia can take entire world

Yugo is seriously underrated. It can be so OP and is always a ton of fun. What was the strat you used?
@@thetibbiesshow So first of i didn't go for civil war, i turned comunist so i can generate manpower and be aligned with soviets (i did that to perserve equipment). Then Rush for 1936 light tank, i equiped him so he can have:
1)max amount of armour (level 9 armour + sloped armour + welded armour)
2)It can keep up with cavalary (goes 6,4 km/h)
3) 3 man touret + radio + close support gun
So idea behind it is you know how people use space marines, now early on i use space cav (6 battalions of cav + 1 light tank) take 3 factories for production of light tanks and build more mills so you can produce AA, artilery, guns, and support equipment. For additional offensive units train 3 mouintanier divisions 20 width (Since entire Italy is just a giant mouintain)
Than realese through focus Slovenia, Croatia and Bosnia, but do not realese montenegro, beacouse i want Italian navy ( I am kinda guy that loves naval stuff). Before you release subjects train as much divisions as you can so you can suck their manpower back, than cancel all training of all those divisions.
Next justify on Albania, and go to war with Albania and Italy in the process, As you capitulate Albania you will get 4000-7000 Guns witch will help with deficit. Important thing with war with Italy is man your ports against naval invasions and use your space cav and mountainers agressivly.
Now obviously i am not gonna talk how each division moves, you have to manage that on your own, but in my case i capitulated italy by the end of february 1939 and lost in the end 44K man, witch is improvment compared to my last playthrough where i lost 110k man in war with italy.
Next up, Justify at Hungary and Bulgaria. What i noticed is that at this point of 40-50% world tension if you declare war as a comunist nation on either Hungary, Bulgaria or Romania and you call either one of your communist puppets they will join Axis. So dont realese Vojvodina before the end of war with Hungary.

Justify on Romania and now there is a problem, for a mounth in game time they will join the axis after my justifican is over so what i do?
I noticed that Romania for some stupid reason never guards bulgarian border, i built 100 transport planes 400 fighters and single battalion of paratropers. Create 2 collabaration goverments in Romania, so they can more quickly capitulate.
Now i declare war, i dont call anyone, and then i paradrop my units on Bulgarian-Romanian Border near Buchurest, transport my troops across the river, Rush B, and paradrop where ever you see fit.
Give Transylvania either to Transnistria or Hungary, Dobruja to Bulgaria, and the rest as you see fit.
Its, mid 1940,in less then 15 days Romania capitulates. And that's the run, kinda long explanation, but now you can kill Germany, Allies , Japanese, Chinese united front, AND MAKE WHOLE WORLD COMMUNIST. Tito will be proud.

Yeah, the new update that came along with aat changed Italys civil war code a bit. Revert to avalanche game version OR just try to cap Italy fully and not wait for the event.
Unfortunately this doesnt work anymore. Romania joins Axis now mid 1939 once WT spikes high enough. Cant manage them and Hungary

Soviet broke Non-agression pact and wanted my bessarabia but I asked to join a faction (Comintern) and there's no war goal on me. So I decided to left comintern and... My puppet's italy is still in comintern...

I passionately hate the Italian civil war mechanics. How tf did my puppet own a puppet?!? Why did the Italian puppet delete it's units right before I end the war?!?!?!? Did Mussolini and his army somehow came back from the dead?!?!?!!??!?
It’s both my favorite thing and least favorite. If I’m fighting them, I love it, if I’m Italy I hate it.
that italy war is just so awful buggy and terrible, you could have them 90% to capitulation and the civil war still wont trigger
Yeah, when paradox released arms against tyranny, they changed the Italy civil war code in some way. Revert back to the game version avalanche and the guide will work because that’s the game version the guide was made for.
It doesn't work for me at all, lol. France refused to guarantee me, and their guarantee doesn't expire after their capitulation.
Yeah, I was very misinformed about them losing the guarantee after France falls. It’s like 50/50 if the French with guarantee you or not. You could always beat the Germans and Romania once they join the axis, and then beat the Soviets for Bessarabia. It’s a little more work, but it’s doable.
@@thetibbiesshow I restarted to understand that the game screwed me over. Apparently, the moustache man was too fast capturing Paris: after the capture he created a Vichy government, but «Free France» has never capitulated, that's why their guarantee stuck. After a re-run, he captured several coastal cities in Normandy and Picardie that with Paris resulted in an actual capitulation thus removal of the guarantee.
Man i followed your guide exactly i even beat italy a month earlier and got civil war as a puppet, then i beat greece then started to declare on romania then joined the axis in april.... i hate this game

I suggest u first kill Romania before Greece. In my game, Romania joined axis for some reason in early 1939 so kill Romania first before Greece as Greece won’t flip but Romania would( god damn it )
I’ve been hearing that a lot recently actually. I haven’t had a single game where Romania joins the axis so early, but I’ve heard enough people say they have that I think your idea is the way to go tbh

It definitely would work, but I found that Germany without Romania, Italy, hungry, and Bulgaria is very easy. But honestly, as long as you annex Austria, you could probably never have to even enter ww2. Could be the play. Not a bad idea at all! If I ever update the guide, I think I’ll go with your idea actually.

But i still think that germany is very strong on it's own, it has ruined several games of mine.

It’s always a good idea to have some troops ready for naval invasions, especially if fighting any of the Major Nations. Even basic 8wdths are good for port duties. If you keep the Italians distracted on Zara, they shouldn’t naval invade you, because in the eyes of the AI, they already have a yugo front open, so they’ll just send more troops there.
