I passed my test today.. Thank you Mr. Jimbo.. It was just your videos I used as reference to fine tune my driving skills.. the hardest challenge was to switch off my driving instincts of 15 years. I had driven in various parts of world before moving to Australia.. Thanks A LOT for a set of helpful videos. I actually went the WRONG way and just went to all the tests to transfer my license without any preparation. This was based on my previous overseas move (Ukraine -> US), where a driving test in US was a total joke, you really had to do it with closed eyes to be able to fail it. So now that we moved to NSW I decided it's probably around the same here. And the computer test indeed was pretty straightforward... Man, was I wrong with the Driving test though. Got 3 fails on that and got the L plates as a reward :) Found your videos, super helpful on the head checks and steering (which were my main failures). Passed with 104\107 today on the second go like a breeze. SUPER helpful and clear explanations as to what they check and what not. You rock :) Andriy

Please note that if you pass your test and there is a missing document you will need to provide the required document in max 30 days otherwise you will need to redo your driving test again. Thats what happened to me even though they checked all my documents before doing my test and then since my lebanese overseas driving test was older than 12 years they required a consulate letter that needed more than 2 months to be done.
My test is again booked on monday hopefully will pass again❤

Hi Jimbo, I’ve been using my overseas license since I came here in Australia and now requiring me to change to open license due to recent policy update which gave me a bit of anxiety. I was skeptical at first to pass the practical test without having a driving instructor to sit with me before the judgment day because even though Im not a newby with driving, I have these bad habbits that are difficult to break. I wanted to cancel my test booking 3 days ago as I cant find an instructor here in our area.
Luckily I found your videos and took all your tips and advices by heart. I would’ve have regretted big time if I didnt show up for my driving test yesterday morning because…. I actually PASSED the test in FIRST GO through your youtube videos. 🎉🥳🥳🎉You are heaven sent!!! Now I can have back to back celebration coz I just got my PR two days ago and yesterday got my open license. 🎉🎉

Hi John, Im from Philippines also. Where can you see the issue date of license?
Hi Mark, the issue date is below your photo in the PH license. If you recently renewed your license in the PH, the date of renewal will be reflected in your PH license instead of the first issue date. In my case, I have been driving since 2017, but since I renewed in 2021 (good for 10 years) the date of issue indicated in the license is 2021 instead of 2017. Anyway, just to be sure, I obtained a certification from LTO PH about the date of issue of my license just in case they look for it. But when I went to Service NSW to apply, hindi naman nila hiningi. I still put 2017 as the date of issue kasi yun naman talaga ang first issue date. Hope it helps!

I got my p2 license after passing the actual drive test in vicroads..they cannot give me full unrestricted license yet since my current Philippine DL was renewed last November 2022 so they based the assumption that I held my overseas license for 8 mos but they will give me the full unrestricted license if I have a previous license card stating more than 3 years or proof that I’ve been holding my license more than three years like lto certificate with consulate authenticity.. so to make the long story short, having with you your old overseas driver license is a breath of a sigh of relief.

Hey Jimbo, I failed my test but actually scored 105/109 points because of you. I only watched your videos and nothing else. I failed because of a fail item (I turned left and apparently my right tyre touched the right lane white line). Its like they find excuses to fail you. Anyways thanks for all the help!

Even an insane person would have to scanned the road before merging into it, they just feel like failing people that's what I see it because on my check list to the part that says F6 all the boxes were ticked correct, I still don't understand why this examiner had to fail me and put me on Learner licence.
This is like a university student failing one exam component and the examiner repeat him to start Kindergarten😂😂😂

Hey Jimbo, very helpful videos. Well done for making life easier. I have one question. If I take my car and the same has a reverse camera, would that be acceptable ? If I look at the camera instead of looking back during reverse, would that be a fail item ?
You can use the reverse camera but you have to still check out back otherwise you will get an Observation Error. 3 Strikes and you are out!!!

Hi Jimbo, what to do if you are in a narrow street, on left the cars are parked, on right is double solid line, if you go straight you wount be able to maintain 1 meter distance from parked cars and may touch the solid line.

Steering comes with practice. You should work with a supervisor driver to get the right line around corners and bends.

My understanding is that you get one go. If you fail you go on Ls.
I have an overseas license for more than 5 years. I passed my DKT. I am just curious on one thing though. If I fail my road test, I assume I'll get a learners license. However if I pass the road test on maybe 2nd or 3rd or even 4th attempt will I get a full unrestricted license or will I have to go through the provisional to full transition? Also your videos are super helpful. I have driven in Sydney CBD and did fine with on road driving with my international license but there seems to be a lot of technical things for passing the test. So just in case I don't pass it one go, I am curious what happens next.
If you have had your overseas licence for 5 years then you should receive a full licence when you pass.

As long as you have done the knowledge test and got all your documents in order you can book it straight away. However if you fail you will go onto Learner Licence. Maybe make sure you are good.

You should get a full licence.

Hi Jimbo, if a permanent resident is not able to have the overseas license converted within 3 months, then a learner’s license would be required to be able to practice drive. Is that correct? After which, can I try for an actual driving test? Would passing it allow me to have a full NSW license (assuming my overseas license has been held for more than 3 years)? Or would I be back to square 1 going through learners, P1, and P2? Thank you!
Yes after 3 months you need Learner Licence. And yes if you held your overseas licence longer than 3 years you will convert to full licence.
I just want to know are there any more "test" to do, when going from P1 (Red) to P2 (Green) license in NSW?

When you get to NSW visit Service NSW and they will convert your NT licence over to NSW. You won't need to do any test.

Hi mate I don't really know the answer to that I would guess that you don't need to be a permanent resident to convert UK licence. You would be best contacting Service NSW directly to find out.

Now you have L licence you can do the test as many times as it takes (Hopefully 1STGO!!!). You just cannot drive by yourself until you pass.

Hey. Im converting my overseas license to full, however failed on my first attempt and was issued a Learners license until I can do the driving test again. Considering this is an overseas conversion (to full) will I need to have the magnetic L on the car for my next test? Thanks Jimbo 🙏🏼
Yes. If you are on a Learner licence you cannot drive by yourself anymore and will have to display an L plate until you pass.

1. When asked to park in a manual car do I put the car in 1st gear or neutral?
2. Will I be able to do the test in a car made in 2003?
3. when doing the test in a manual car is there a different route/test to the normal one?
Hi Kyron (1) You leave it in 1st when finished. (Reverse if you are pointing down hill). (2) Yes re 2003. Any car as long as it complies with their requirements. (3) The routes are the same.

My girlfriend has an overseas license from Colombia which was issued 1 year ago, however, she’s 29, would she be able to get the full license ? We were told that as long as she’s over 25 she could get it
If she has had the Colombian licence validly for at least 3 years she should go straight to the full licence. That's my understanding. If it's less than 3 years then a P licence is issued. Contact Service NSW if you want exact info.

Yes. When you pass your NSW test in the automatic you will be given a full unrestricted licence as you have already been driving over 10 years. You will be able to drive a manual with that.

In May2023 i landed in NSW as an International student with an overseas licence issued in 2022 but after landed i go for dkt and my friend fill my form and he write we have no overseas licence, when i passed dkt then they gave me NSW L Licence with log book,,,, jimbo please tell me what should i do next? Can i cancel this L licence? I am too much confused,
Well it doesn't matter now as you have been here more than 6months so your overseas licence would be not valid anyway. So stick with the Learner Licence and pass the NSW test and gain a NSW licence.

This is one of those questions that you should take to Service NSW. I would guess that if your overseas licence is still valid and has been issued for 3 years without any cancellation then passing the NSW test would gain you a full unrestricted licence. I would also guess that you would not need a logbook. Why don't you ask Service NSW and post back what they say?
