    If I was in the market for an M4, I would get this G87 M2 in a heartbeat. I would even consider the G87 if I was in the market for a G80 with the big difference being 4 vs 2 doors. I agree with your closing statement. It's no longer the smaller, underdog everyone fell in love with with the F87 generation. I saw a similar built G87 as this one in your video on the road last week and it looked good in person. Then yesterday I saw someone with a 2021 F87 Competition in Hockenheim Silver with suspension, exhaust and performance parts and just looked like it wil age very well.

    These are the things I love about this car, and that is why I ordered one.
    You get the epic S58 engine
    You get a 6-speed manual
    You get probably the last M2 car that is not electrified in any way
    You get a true rear wheel drive car
    You get the adaptive suspension.
    The design has grown on me and I think it will continue to do so. At least it doesn't look like any other car out there right now.

    This "biggest problem" can be also considered the biggest advantage, because you are getting a higher-level platform (presumably better engineered), as opposed to the previous M2 which was basically built on a 1-series hatchback platform.

    To me this car has matured in the right direction. 1st gen M2 is too twitchy near the limit, with cheap outdated interior. BMW has totally fixed it with this gen. Its a lot safer, more confident at higher speeds, with beautiful interior ( that’s where you spend all your time with the car ). This is a car for someone who’s looking for a total package. An amazing daily driver that kills it on the weekends. Btw, 6 speed is the way to go.

      I think a lot of people are looking at this car the wrong way as well. So many people are saying it's a baby M4, and they are absolutely right. But really, that doesn't make the M2 worse, it makes the M4 worse, it's borderline irrelevant now. The M2 is what the M3 coupe used to be.

    As a former Dinan E36 M3 and Dinan E46 M3 owner and a new G87 M2 owner, this review is pretty accurate.
    The car, due to weight, really carries a ton of speed into corners. Unlike the E46M3, you go from understeer to oversteer very quickly. There's a definitely some moving around in the rear end that probably can be fixed with monoballs and thicker end links.

    Great review. I also previously owned an OG M2 and M2C and had intentions to get the G87. But, I made the exact same observations and came to the same conclusion as yourself. This car is designed for people who want a cheaper M4, not an M2.

      @strongerandwiser2023 Před 9 měsíci +1

      Its not that much cheaper and its even smaller than an OG m2 inside. I dont really know why anyone wouldnt just got for the m4 at this point. its alot more practicle and pretty much handles and drives the same but with a load more power. They are what like 10k more in price ? When your over 65k to start with you might aswell pay that bit extra to get the faster, more practicle car.

      @@strongerandwiser2023 some prefer the looks of this M2 vs. M4 (not sure what I think). It also has a shorter wheelbase and stiffer front end suspension to give it a ‘sharper’ feel. When you consider it has those potentially preferable characteristics for 10k less, I fully understand why someone would opt for the M2. Consider also the engine is exactly the same, just with a different software tune. So, if you plan to tune it yourself, it 100% makes sense.

      @@cre2368 Funny. I had an appointment at my local BMW dealer to buy the fully loaded car at sticker on Feb 2021 but i had to cancel due to a conflicting doctor’s appt. I called back the next day & it was sold! Rationalized that i didn’t like the ugly looking exposed exhaust. Shortly afterwards i got 1 of only 2 2021 allocations from my local Porsche dealership for a GTS 4.0. But i recently saw a beautiful blue M2CS at my local track where the owner had a matching custom black Akrapovic exhaust & rear diff. Looked killer & oem! After i put a down payment on the GTS 4.0, i received a call from another P-dealer offering me a GT4 allocation. I declined since i would lose my deposit on the GTS 4.0. Unfortunately, this chasing becomes a no-win game. Bottom line, no regrets on the GTS 4.0 in manual. Love the inside & outside sound, responsiveness, handling, & it’s a little under the radar. Nothing more is needed for the street & it’s superb on the track.

    Thank you for the review. I just got the 2024 G87 M2 and took it to the canyons with my friend driving the 2023 M4 comp. I honestly like the overall usability of the car with larger back seats and the bigger usable trunk. I have two teenage kids and a dog. This is not our primary car but when I need the extra space it is very usable for short distances. It's going to be a daily car to drive to work and back. On the weekends will hit the canyons for "spirited" driving and going to the beach. Maybe I'll take it to the track once in a while. I think if you want an M2 track car then get a used F87 and modify it to your liking. In person the G87 looks better then in the videos or pictures and I get a lot of looks from people with thumbs up. I think in general the reviews for the G87 have been very critical in a negative manner and I don't think it's fair for the car. I think this comes from hard core M enthusiasts that look at these as track cars. The reality is for most people it's a very usable daily driver who occasionally will do "spirted" driving or take it to the track for fun. If you want a race car, this is not for you and you will be disappointed. I'm very happy with my decision.

      I agree, these cars are made for the "majority" as street legal cars. I think as car enthusiasts< we all are critical of these cars and lean towards more track performance then street/daily usability. These youtubers/influencers do effect the opinions of the market and what people think of the product(s) (a car in this case). In fact their own opinions are shaped by other influencers as well. They point out that one should not listen to other people's opinions and they should make individual choices. I totally agree with this but the reality is that we do make decisions based on others' opinions. I think when looking at these reviews one should consider the background of the influencer as well. Anyone can put anything they want online. There is a difference, for example, when an opinion is given from a race car driver then a financial analyst or a baker that is a car enthusiast. I have owned only BMWs past 20 years. Between my wife and I we have had 14 BMWs. I have made a decision on each vehicle based on the reviews I read and have not regraded my decision. In fact I have bought cars without even driving them over the phone. It worked well for me. The G87 is the the only one I didn't feel comfortable buying over the phone based on these reviews. When I drove it I fell in love with it. Most influencers "reviewing" the G87 lean towards the negative side of the bell curve IN MY OPPINION. So in conclusion, do read/watch these reviews but consider the source, and look/driver the car in person. Happy New Year to all and be safe.

    I was directed to this video from a static article in Motor I (I think that's the name). I am impressed by this presenter's sober delivery--no drama--as well as candor, objectivity, and citing of figures including body dimensions that are seldom mentioned. His viewpoint reminds me of British automotive journalist LJK Setright whose ideal car would have been created by a JV between Alec Issigonis and Colin Chapman. I too am in agreement. The magic of the first 3 series (as well as of the first 5 series) was due to BMW's minimalist approach that was refreshing in the car industry of that time (and now too?), and a logical development from the original 2 series (the boxy 1600 and 2002 in the USA). I cannot afford to own more than one car at a time so I currently have a BMW i3 that I think represents BMW's most innovative production car in recent time--to me the best since the Z1 (and to a lesser degree the 1 series). Glad to be a new subscriber here.

      Nah M2Cs are about 9,5 Sec 100-200. G87 is 8.8 / 8.9. It’s not that much of a difference. The S55 just feels more lively in the lower range due to the higher Compression Ratio. The S58 suits the M3/4 more because of the „big turbo“ character. We didn’t want another M4 that’s the problem. The F87 was different to the F80/F82 and that made it special!

    This makes me feel like I should hold on to my 2020 M340i instead of getting new M2!!! A new M2 is $135,000, my M340i is worth $75,000.... so is it worth changing for the $60,000 Australian Dollars difference in price??? Cheers Don, Perth W.Australia (Dons Shed and Xplor Overland)

    • @TunedIntoCars
      @TunedIntoCars  Před 9 měsíci +2

      Feels a bit odd anyway to go from a 4 door sedan to a 2 door coupe. But anyway, that M340i has enough performance for the road and I personally don't think the M2 is worth 60k extra. No way

    Just a few things I was wondering:
    1) Does BMW Sweden not offer a manual transmision in the M cars?
    2) I heard that car prices in Sweden are quite ludicrous in general, probably as part of an initiative to discourage car ownership and by extension lower emission rates. In the U.S, the M2 starts at about $64,000USD or about 60,000 Euro.
    3) The F87 M2 competition actually weighed about the same as its M3/M4 brothers at the time, which themselves were much lighter than their successors. It was the OG M2 that was significantly lighter than the F8X M3/M4. If you read/watch some contemporary reviews comparing the two F87 M2s (here's a link to one: czcams.com/video/C5_8Vm0fGtA/video.html), the consensus was that the competition was objectively better as far as performance and build quality goes, but it had lost some character compared to the original.

    • @TunedIntoCars
      @TunedIntoCars  Před 10 měsíci +1

      1. Yeah, they still do. But an M2 with a manual transmission in Sweden is going to be hard to sell later on. I know that from experience :D
      2. Like I've said in the video, if you think the M2 is going to hold its value in your country, then it's probably worth the asking price. I don't believe that to be the case in Sweden. There are so many advertised online that it's hard to believe BMW isn't going to discounted them hard, quite soon. Same as they did with the M240i
      3. The only car I ever regret selling and still do to this day, is my manual old F87 M2 LCi. I needed some cash as we were buying a house and I sold it. 5 years later I still regret it. So I tend to agree that, over time, the M2 started loosing some of its initial magic. But I'm not gonna lie, I really enjoyed my M2c as well. But if I had the option to bring back one of my old cars, it would be the OG M2.

    • @drjk7565
      @drjk7565 Před 10 měsíci

      @@TunedIntoCars It seems the OG F87 M2 is the one most fondly remembered by M fans, which is quite ironic given at the time of its launch in 2016, many complained it didn't have a "proper" M engine.
      As much as we bemoan M cars getting bigger and heavier, we should spare a thought for AMG fans as their M3 rival now sports a turbo 4-cylinder hybrid and it somehow weighs over 400kg more than its predecessor with a twin-turbo V8.

    • @TunedIntoCars
      @TunedIntoCars  Před 10 měsíci

      Yeah, i remember that. I also remember how much shit I got for waiting for a year to take delivery on an M cat without a "proper M engine" 🤣

    I still own my F87. Despite modifying almost every car I have ever owned, I have kept the M2 bone stock. I could not be happier. I love the M2. It is the right size, it looks amazing, and despite not having a "true M" power plant and being "under powered," it makes me smile every single time I drive it. It is a modern classic. Even better, there are not many floating around on the roads. In fact, I rarely see another F87 M2, ever. And best of all, I use mine as a daily. 5.5-years of ownership, 62,700 miles into it, and my only major investment have been new brakes and rotors. Beyond that, I have only had to buy tires and change the oil. It has been a dream to own. I intend to hold onto it until I depart this earthly realm. It's become that much fun to own and drive. The new G87 M2 clearly fell out of the ugly tree and hit every branch on the way down. Nothing about it is appealing. None of it fits. One of things that I always love about M cars is how the stance of the car is accentuated by a fat backside, with the tire size always perfectly selected so that when you looked at the car from any angle, you knew it was a performance car. Despite the new M2s giant sized tires, because its weirdly shaped w/bad angles, the rear tires look too skinny, which is insane. That's probably just a me thing, but that's one of my biggest peeves. The G87 will leave me for dead from a dig or from a roll, but I'll always look and sound better and have more change in my pockets.

      I can confirm that he speaks the truth. How? I had an E46 coupe.. it was my love car. A just bought the M2 g87... I feel exactly the same as him. I feel more pleasure from 20 years old car than this. Yes.. it's great.. but it depends on what you want. And if you have not tried an old car like E46, e36... and you are young and only tried the modern electric steering that gets you disconnected from the car... then yes.. you will fill this car is perfect. I wanted an M2 for the purest sensation.. I have no time and money to take an old e46 M3... the reason I took the the new one in manual and carbon bucket seats. Speed is not the main pleasure you look for in this kind of car. If you want speed.. you take any of the m4/m3 xdrive competition.

    Looks are not totally subjective. For instance, everyone can agree that a Ferrari 250 GTO or Ford GT40 are beautiful cars. And if you say they are not, then we know you are wrong, there is no question about this. This M2 is brutally ugly in terms of historical cars or even basic design instruction and the display is insane to take away the controls and have a strut or stand on the back of a huge screen. These are fatal flaws that should be losing customers but sometimes we are swayed by how we perceive other people will react, not caring about our own good judgment.

    Not wallmart, it looks like a knockoff audi. The headlights design is audi style. The tail light design as well.
    There is no bmw language in the led lines. The bumpers are generic aftermarket.
    But this bmw still looks better than ANY of the other current and upcoming BMW cars.
    I mean, as a bmw m2 owner you'll feel like a clown audi lookalike owner, but still better than all the other bmw clowns owners.
    So consider yourself lucky.
