To this day I saw 12th and 13th generation of Intel CPUs as common improvement. I was wrong about it, these CPUs are beasts!

I used to have the Asrock B660 Riptide and a 12400f that I overclocked to 5.3Ghz all core, it was an animal.

I like how people just randomly accepted the argument that 12100f (and the whole LGA1700 platform) was a ''budget'' cpu or a better choice than AMD when it launched when the new h610 platform costs were around 50%+ than ryzen equivalents (where sometimes you didn't need to spend one cent more on anything else since you'd just reuse your mobo, whilst in blue side you were OBLIGATED to change to a whole new chipset), I mean does a cpu work without a motherboard? Until this day in my country A520M able to withstand 5700X (A PRO from MSI) goes for $60 and the crappiest (unable to hold 12600k) H610 for $90, the mid-range ones for $120, with around the same price you have a B550M Pro Vhd for $140 able to hold 5800X3D

These F CPU's on LGA 1700 are very good, you don't need the fancy Z790 boards or fancy cooling.

Amd has a more affordable upgrade path. I think Intel holds their value too well so if you want to upgrade your I3 it wont be worth it. If you buy a cheap Amd cpu you might upgrade again in the future where as an I7 Will probably take 10 years to cost the same amount as the equivalent Amd CPU. I could be wrong though it depends
You're also losing out on a lot by getting an F cpu since you lose the Igpu and its way harder to mess with your cpus clock speeds.
Even a b450 pro VDH max can run a 5800x at full tilt

Normal i3 12th gen is already powerful enough to run every modern AAA game
Reminds me of back in the day overclocking arguably the best overclocking budget cpu of all time, the celeron 300a, from 300Mhz to 450Mhz by using a BX chipset mobo and bumping the FSB from 66Mhz to 100Mhz. This resulted in a 50% overclock and a budget cpu that outperformed the intel flagship cpu at the time the Pentium II 450 at a fraction of the cost thanks to the celeron's smaller on die L2 cache running at full bus speed over the PIIs larger off die cache running at 1/2 speed.
Something I noticed is with the Xeon you had it paired with a GTX 1050 TI which is A LOT worse then the RTX 3090 I wonder how much performance the 1050 TI is bringing it down.

Hey I want a bit of suggestion ,i have been using ryzen 5 2400G , 8 gb ram, with a 1050 ti 4gb card from 2018, previously i used to play games but currently i don't play games that much, now coming to the real issue at hand ,
i am a developer , and my pc is unable to handle my workload , I have to work on a big codebase on daily basis, so one compilation takes around a huge amount of time and clearly 8 gb ram is also lacking
At a single time i use multiple tmux sessions, a few tabs on firefox, and a table plus dbms, discord is all time running, and also one spotify instance, I use linux
Without anything my ram consumption rate is around 300-400 mb but after start opening these things it's like my compilation is crashing in regards to sometime my cpu can't able to keep up and sometimes the memory stack gets overflowed
So I want to build a pc
I don't think I need a gpu (I am not going to play games)
I just need a high performance cpu based build with a 16 gb or higher amount of ram
What cpu do you suggest
My budget is around 400USD
Any full pc build suggestion is also appreciated , Thank you .
BCLK/FSB Overclocking is back baby!
I also have BCLK overclocking on my AM4 B550M Steel Legend but it's useless as all CPUs have unlocked multi.
I overclocked Socket A, 754, 939, AM2 from AMD and 478, 775, 1366 (X58) from intel using BCLK/FSB overclocking. Fun stuff
what's the y-cruncher and geekbench 3 score because some of the settings for your memories tertiaries seems to be very loose and could effect the performance.

Long term what does the extra power added to the CPU, ram do. Does it degrade, nothing burger? Harder to hit same clocks a year later?

Riding a Asrock PG riptide B660 with a 12400F at 5.2ghz daily. Great deal imo and I get 13700k levels of single to 6 core performance.

Overclocking intel is great and gets pretty good gains son's i7 8700k delided and overclocked to 5.1ghz paired with 2x16gb 4400mhz memory received amazing gains.
I think the gains have diminished when they released an i9. Now all the i7 are binned down and the potential for overclocking an i7 is lowered. Not to mention recent trend to dump more power and cooling to boot which further reduces the headroom we can squeeze out by overclocking.
My Haswell i7 got a nice 25-30% gain and beat a 6700 albeit draws 120w
@@harrytsang1501 look at 13600k doing 5.7-5.8ghz 13700k and 13900k also overclock decently do require better cooler though potentially even custom loop. But I wouldn't say it's diminished as much as people say.

Appreciate the B660 links. However do the old Xeon some justice and pair it with the same GPU in your testing. There’s more at hand than the Xeon being at fault for such a poor showing in FPS.

I managed to overclock my x58 Xeon5675 6 core 12 treads from stock 3.46Ghz to 5Ghz cooled by air.

3:49 I don't know if you got bad silicon lottery or I got to good lottery, but my Ryzen 5 5500, which is supposde to have a fairly similar performance to the 12100 gets 4400, and it's not even overclocked, although I get a lower single core score
Before the b760 riptide was on newegg I got the ddr4 version (b660 riptide) for $130 on aliexpress. I was a bit sketpical but at 5.1 ghz my 12100f has better multicore perf than my overclocked 4.5ghz i7 5960x. Crazy how fast this cpu is and i will soon pair it with a 4070 or 3080

Good content, I like it! I did not know that I can overclock a non k cpu, but can I overclock a T cpu?
Yes, but don't. T chips have low all-core boost, which will make overclocking very difficult. For example, the i5-12400T only has a 3.4 GHz all-core boost, so you need to dial the FSB/Bclk all the way to 150 to get 5.1 GHz. But since FSB affects other things like cache and RAM, getting that high is very unlikely unless you go crazy with the voltage.
The only T chip worth considering is the i9-12900T(E), which has a 3.9 GHz all-core boost, and hitting 5 GHz on all the P-cores should be pretty trivial.
Can you do the same with 14400f?

I was under the impression that a very high BCLK OC is bad for all clock related components, did they overcome that limitation on the newer motherboards?
Highest I ever got with an i7-3770k was 104 BCLK.
I was thinking the same. Things like PCIe used to be affected by BCLK too. I remember when I tried to OC an i7 4790 and I couldn't get more than 103MHz BCLK.
This is because the BLCK is now separated from PCIE BLCK on some motherboards
Don't BCLK overclock- very risky and not worth it. It overclocks a lot more than just the cpu frequency- easy way to fry your system- not just your CPU if you don't know what you're doing. If you do think you know, get at it and have yourself some fun! Tinkering is a lot of fun!

i had a 7600k oced it to 5ghz, didnt felt any more perfomance. i think oc is just for benchmarks.

OMEN PC here, 13700 F, XMP 6000, b760 is enough, minimal I/O, 2x NVMe max is enough. Not bottlenecking the RTX 4090 on a cheap build.

Fps isn't everything, frametime is more important than FPS, if you have 120fps and have a frame time of 20-25ms it will feel like 30fps
Whereas a frame time less than 5 ms even at 60fps will feel like 240fps
That I9 is insane
