Interesting to see most people are as non-plussed when they meet you as they are when they meet me when I say “I’m in the band”. Difference is you’re Leland Sklar. Anonymity has its benefits though. Thanks for the video!
I’m also amazed that nobody knows Leeland on sight. I mean he’s very distinctive looking. And if you are a Lyle fan and you are going to one of his concerts, wouldn’t you look up who is in this “large band”?

As a Chicago resident, this is one of my favorite venues. At the beginning of the video, the large white tents you can see off to the side are rented by companies or fundraising organizations. I attended a fundraiser for a women’s shelter & via raffle tickets ($10/ea) won backstage passes to meet & actually chat with Peter, Paul & Mary (about 45 minutes) after their show. Surreal. 💜💜💜

It was our first time at Ravinia, first time seeing Lyle and the Large Band and first time seeing Clint Black. It was a fabulous show. The icing on the cake was meeting you after having followed your career for so many years. The whole evening made the celebration of our 40th wedding anniversary that much more special. Founded in 1904, Ravinia is the oldest outdoor music festival in North America. Since 1936 Ravinia has been the summer home of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. Ravinia’s Stean’s Institute is an artistic development program for young professional musicians. Ravinia’s “Reach Teach & Play” program brings music education curriculum to thousands of children in area public schools which have little or no music programs of their own as well as provides a Jazz Mentor program to student jazz musicians in the Chicago Public High Schools.

12:50 I've always been fascinated by the sound of a room. That theater has a great sound to it. Domes, in particular fascinate me, the way they carry the sound from one edge to the opposite edge... I used to play a chapel here in Madison where you could stand under one edge, and whisper, and a person on the opposite edge could hear the whisper. Cool stuff, acoustics.

Hi Ian. We certainly don’t have that many venues like this as they all have been bulldozed to make way for units/townhouses which is a shame. Our music industry is virtually non existent.

@@Ian-SteeleIt’s becoming harder to find venues with character and history like Lee shows. We just had another famous old country movie theatre close and it will be taken down to rubble and not preserved.
Hey thanks Leland! This is extra special for me as I grew up 5 miles from this place! And loved going there all through my youth until I turned 16 and moved out to the South West. Ravinia is one f the nicest venues in that part of the country and I remember seeing all kinds of music there from Classical to Rock and Roll and Jazz!

I started watching your Clint Black video when my internet connection cut out about 3/4 of the way through!! Had to do the ol' rebooting of the router...thankfully, it's back on! After finishing that video, I found this one and really enjoyed the tour! I've listened to WCPT820 out of Chicago online for years, and I've heard them mention Ravinia many times...nice to get a chance to see it! Thanks! ❤
A beautiful setting. Certainly is perfect weather for an outdoor concert. The first 2 rooms Lee was able to show us had brilliant acoustics for non amplified instruments.

Welcome Leland! We’ve been to Ravinia many times but never had “an all access pass” like this! The staff is probably on high alert ever since last year’s horrific tragedy ! It will be 2 years since it happened this 4th of July. Thanks for showing us the place… we’ve only been on the lawn for concerts - had no idea what went on inside the rooms where musicians are playing/practicing/working. Sorry we missed your show-it’s the perfect venue to see you guys on such a beautiful like today.

The Prévost buses used for your tour are built in Canada in the province of Québec...my province. It is owned now by Volvo Group.
lee likes the sound of water. my favorite sound came later in that very video. it's the chirping of the sparrows that makes me feel so relaxed every time i can hear them. one if the most underrated birds there is. and they are so much fun to watch when they interact with each other.

A true cellar dweller you are - we’re kindred spirits! That fire suppression system there and where the domestic comes in the building - is what I’ve seen and dealt with quite possibly thousands of times in my career. That one statue style at the beginning resembled the Arthur Fiedler one on the Esplanade in Boston with the layers. The other was surely resemblant of Cryptosporidium or something like it!
