    One simple answer, Octane renders better image than Cycles does. I did some tests in Blender 3.2 and 3.3 with my own characters, Octane just handles skin shader and hair cards much better than Cycles and it is much easier to set up such as skin shader. Also, if you use substance designer and substance painter to make textures, you will find Octane renders things much closer to Iray in substance suit than Cycles does meaning you have less guessing and tweaking work after you finish your texturing process in substance. And that is because before Blender 4.0, the energy conservation is not totally correct in material definition. However, other industry standard renderers don't have this problem.

    Hi, thank you so much for this tutorial. I have a question : in your "Blender Octane: A Free Shading Guide" gumbraod thumbnail, where did you get the blue grid mat, below the octane material ball ? thank you again

      I made it I download a image of the mat from the internet and added it as a material if you were in the discord server I will look for the file and try to upload the image IDs or if I have enough space I will upload a blender file with that in there DM me on discord 🤓👍🏾

    Despite using Blender for like 10 years or more by now, I can't remember ever hearing about Octane until now. Since I go for Cel-Anime-Shading, it doesn't seem to be relevant for me, but good to know about it

      @@1polygonewithme I just looked at it and I am really positively surprised. Currently I am using Goo Engine with Eevee, but I will certainly take a look how Octane's Toon Shading works for me. Given that I have an expensive NVidia GPU anyway and Octane seems to take good advantage on that, it might allow me to add some impressive VFX to my workflow. Which would be ideal, cuz that's absolutely something I seek to achieve

    would you recommend Octane for product renderings? Like stills but also animations? i feel like octane is a bit more realistic right?

    I wish you had more views because you definitely deserve it, you're one of the only guys on youtube that makes content around octane blender.
    maybe you could get a better camera angle, set it a bit further than your face and lights.

      I appreciate that! 🙏🏾 thanks believe it or not I do have all that stuff lights cameras 🎥 but when I have an idea for a video I can immediately get to recording no setup required
      Versus having the typical CZcams setup having to set lights up & cameras up background all that takes time hours and sometimes I don't want to record the video
      I'm able to make more content with a simple minimalist setup and focus on the value of the video 🙏🏾🤓👍 on my 1st CZcams channel @patricklevar 139K I do all you suggested 🤓👍🏾
      my goal with this channel is to prove you with the most free info I can🤓🤓

    Wait, so octane can be used in other programs too?????

    damn!, seems like you just didnt experience well cycles... saying that Octane is "industry standard" just says that you dont have the technical background to support your claims in a proper way.

      I've been using Octane Render with 3ds Max from 2010 to 2016 and have closely observed its evolution. Despite its reputation, I believe the notion of an "industry standard" is somewhat misleading, heavily influenced by behind-the-scenes lobbying. In the GPU rendering sphere, Redshift and V-Ray are often cited as standards, but Octane's approach to selling licenses-requiring a standalone purchase to use a plugin, even when unnecessary-raises eyebrows. Additionally, Octane's user interface seems perpetually unfinished, undergoing constant changes that suggest it's a work-in-progress.Regarding rendering capabilities, I find that Cycles, with the right setup, matches or surpasses Octane, despite a more challenging workflow. The term "industry standard" has become irksome, especially considering the undue criticism Blender faced over the years. It's a reminder that what's considered standard isn't always set in stone, and often, alternative tools and workflows can offer equal or superior results.

      @@1polygonewithme I'd like to point out that judging the use of rendering pipelines in movies based on high-profile names like Jules Urbach and Ari Emanuel can be misleading. Their connections to Hollywood, a realm often driven more by hype, PR, and lobbying than by the actual use of technology, don't necessarily reflect the true scope of a tool's application. While Octane Render has indeed been showcased in a few notable intro sequences, such as Westworld's, which stands out most prominently, its primary application veers towards a different industry altogether. Thanks to its integration with Cinema 4D, Octane has found its stronghold in product visualization and motion graphics, marking the real niche for its use. The rendering quality of Octane is exceptional, and while Cycles can potentially match it, much depends on the artist's skill. However, from a user experience perspective, especially within Blender, I find Octane's workflow to be quite impractical and unstable. My 2 cents based on personal experience with Octane since it was not known and created by Refractive software in New Zealand.

    strange video tbh.
    you just say "because vfx" and go on a halfbaked how to on shadow catcher and compositing. and plug your gumroad like 3 times.
    camera projection, shadow catching, cryptomatte, passes, light link can be done in cycles, with tiny caveats.
    octane still offers superior quality, but there are many trade offs which is discussed worth having.
    you touched upon nothing.
