It comes inside an extra box, a note advertising Trap Team and a Thank you for attending the Red Carpet
The unofficial name seems to be "Red Carpet Trigger Happy"
Other than some extra goodies, the Figure is identical and comes in the normal egg-shaped packaging

I think my favorite part about owning both a normal & a variant Skylander is having each one on the different upgrade paths.
My favorite variants were definitely the Dark, Legendary & holiday versions.
As someone who missed the Toys to Life era in gaming I find this stuff fascinating. Not that I'm young per-say, I just didn't get any of this stuff. Probably won't get any of this stuff myself, but I'm glad I could learn about this stuff.

My family never bought games because we were broke so it was something I would look up sometimes but now as an adult I iust bought skylanders giants and I'm watching these videos
Every Skylander released in Giants and after would get a variant ID applied to them to allow the game to calculate what figure it was whilst keeping the same character ID. You can decompile this ID to get a couple of flags. One thing to note is that for all alternative deco figures, a certain alt deco flag is set, apart from the E3 Hot Streak (which I am grateful to own), this one doesn’t have the flag applied. Whilst these are mainly just identifiers, it makes me believe it’s a chase variant that they had enough free time to turn into a regular variant
EDIT: You mentioned how Dark Spyro felt almost like a unique character from Spyro. As I said above, the variant ID was introduced in Giants, which meant that for SSA the variants use unique character IDs, treating them as separate characters

To be far, Dark Spyro is also a character in the Spyro series, specifically the “Legends of” series. This may be the resign, but the design of SL Dark Spyro and Legends Dark Spyro are different so maybe not? Also DS isn't a different character, it's Spyro when he uses too much of the Dark energy stiff in the game, basically like him going to the dark side for a moment lol

It truly isn't complex reposes do not qualify as a variant, superchargers are not variants because they have completely new moveset and considered their own Skylander, and I wouldn't call lightcore Skylanders a variant but all they do is light up and they are in a different pose
@@ygtmgit is complex in Terms of the world Bilding Back Story of the Characters and for it's time the gameplay was complex too
2:17 The SuperChargers don't count as reposes since they all have different movesets.
I’d say they still count, they have very similar movesets and they kind of remind me of the same characters on the opposite path, same idea, different powers

@ignightors Not really... The two are mostly identical, with Dark Spyro having a different color, effects, and catchphrase. I see him as half new
well if you use a superchargers character in an earlier game they act as the normal versions of them, if i put sharkshooter terrafin in Giants he'd count as a regular terrafin

the only chase variant skylander i managed to get back in the day was crystal shortcut and i felt so lucky when i found him at my local toys r us back in the spring of 2015. unfortunately i sold all of my skylanders on ebay including my crystal shortcut. and even to this day, i really wish i didn’t do that

Also, even if I live in Europe, I' ve never seen any of the "Europe exclusive" things. Like dark spyro in a separate box, never seen that.
I’m happy another CZcamsr I know that knows Skylanders, this is fun to learn all the variations of every Skylander, as I’d love Skylanders and my recent one was a variant. My favourite is Pop Fizz, and yes my recent variant is Red Pop Fizz.

Dark Spyro was the first variant my family found, we found him in Tesco as a single pack. I remember thinking that we struck gold

I went to a car boot a while back and actually picked up an unboxed purple metallic wrecking ball for £5.. This was AFTER imaginators too.

Dark Spyro, Punch Pop Fizz, Scarlet Ninjini, Enchanted Hoot Loop, Nitro Freeze Blade, Dark Snap Shot, Jade Flashwing & Legendary Trigger Happy (though technically also Outlaw Brawl & Chain)
and i have 1 Chase Variant

I'll tell you what. The one chase varient i actively searched out and bought once i found out about it was a metallic blue series 2 chop chop. It was ABSOLUTELY gorgeous and i had to get it. The bonus is there were so few of them that they were all IN BOX and the cheapest was actually just under $300.

Dark Spyro's special treatment likely has to do with the fact that it is not just a color variant, its an actual canon form spyro can take (kinda like Super Saiyan) that originates in Spyro: The Eternal Night. his more physical playstyle on 3DS is probably also a reference to this, given that The Eternal Night was a beat-em-up game.
I have a love hate relationship with blue bash, i love him because my mom was just out and about one day and she knew blue was my favorite color and bash was one of my favorite skylanders, i was so exited to play as bash but he was blue because i had dark spyro and the legendarys so i knew some looked different in game than usual i ran down the stairs placed him on the portal........and then i found out what getting catfished was like. And then i fell for it again with pumpkin eyebrawl

I got the chase variant of Wash Buckler at 6:36 (aparently called Colorshift Wash Buckler) when I was young, definitely before Trap Team came out, and I did NOT play Swap Force past the first stage because I didn't like having him. I'm pretty sure it was because I thought it was a dud that wasn't colored at "The Skylanders Factory", but I'm more sure I would have hated & not used anything that wasn't the standard version (minus the reposes. I'd need to play the dudes in the new games somehow)

my favourite type of varient is definitely legendary, mainly because i have legendary jawbreaker and when i use him in superchargers he just looks amazing

I actually own an E3 Hot Streak. I don't know how I got my hands on it let alone buy it for my collection, but it's pretty cool.
What's your opinion on item figure chase variants/in game decos like the platinum treasure chest or the golden dragonfire canon? What about the chase variant of traps? I know it would have been hard but I would have loved if they made the villains you trapped into that in game deco like Legendary bone chompy or something like that.
I got a dark spyro from my cousin but he didn’t have a head so I got a legendary spyro to replace him and I realy want the purple fireballs on the legendary one bc it feels weird now

I actually have a Crystal Clear stealth elf going for at most 425.00 rn. Found it at a Walmart just out of the blue with a Red Drill Sergeant as well. The box is a little damaged from moving outa state so that’ll affect the price a bit but idc I really like the figure

One time when I was younger My dad and I went out Skylander hunting and I found a Dark Swashbuckler and I asked him for it since I always wanted to get a dark variant, but he denied since we already had Swashbuckler.

What about Jet Vac, his series 2 and 3 are considered reposes but they look different in game with the black armour in the series 2 and the red armour in the series 3. Could they also be considered alt decal skylanders. Also the same goes for ninja stealth elf.
I sadly got out of skylanders halfway through swap force and now I regret it. Now I wish I had all these cool Skylanders and variants that had released in the later games as well. I know it probably won't but I do hope that Skylanders comes back and maybe I can get some characters I missed through reposes. Do miss some of the swap force figures I never got though as they were my favorite gimmick
My favorite variant is probably Legendary Lightcore Chill and my first ever stand alone skylander so there might be some bias there

I don’t get why people don’t like the variants. I don’t own too many Skylanders, but a lot of characters that I have are variant only
Example being that I have Dark Wildfire but I don’t have Wildfire, I have Legendary Night Shift and Legendary Free Ranger but not the original of either, and I have Jade Fire Kraken but not Fire Kraken. It has never bothered me, and I like them more than the original
