In every game after Skylanders Spyro's Adventure Activision introduced new gimmick skylanders showing off the gimmick of the game. So lets take a look at these gimmick landers.
It's such a missed opportunity that the Trap Masters aren't lightcores. Could you imagine if their crystal weapons glowed both in-game AND on the figure at the same time? That would've been sick!

How sick would it have been if they brought chop chop back for super chargers, and instead of wielding a sword, he used a multi ended whip made of the brambles he summons, and his vehicle is a chariot pulled by skeleton horses.

I love it too, but they should have told you that portal volume is a setting. Unless you know about it, you cannot play the game at night or when your family is sleeping in.
Skylanders was kind of created by accident,I don't remember every detail but I know the first Skylanders game was meant to be a sort of reboot for spyro the dragon as some of the previous spyro games didn't do too well. Skylanders very quickly became its own thing and I know a lot of people were mad that spyro had kind of been forgotten about in the Skylanders franchise
Skylanders wasn’t just a game about toys coming to life. It was more of a experimental franchise trying out ideas, themes, or gameplay changes. Which is why I like Skylanders as a game not just because of nostalgia but more because there good games with later game spicing it up.

I think trap team took the gimmick a little too far where kids didn’t want the cores anymore because of how much cooler the trap masters were. Trap masters open up elemental gates, deal bonus damage to villains, break traptanium shards, and have much bigger figures. I can totally see why kids wouldn’t buy the cores at all that year and I don’t think I did either. Which is why I think superchargers stripping back both the size of the roster as well as removing the difference between new cores and gimmicklanders all together was a great choice.
Superchargers only having gimmick landers was also a reason for them to raise the price for new skylanders, which I dislike. Especially because the vehicles could've been considered the gimmick skylanders. But they wanted to make more money. I do agree it was a good idea to only have gimmick landers, but they should have been the regular price and figure size of core skylanders.
@@janrautmann7179it might be because VV just had better character designers or something but I feel like the designs and details of the superchargers are definitely a step up from cores even if they are only a little bigger.
@FrogMouth I didn't like superchargers, but something I did really like about it was the skylanders themselves. All the new skylanders had really good designs and made me wish I could play them in previous games. The figurines were higher quality, and the rift engines on the platforms were a nice touch.
My theory is maybe they dug the ground under a piece of traptanium so they now had this boulder with a large cluster of traptanium on it. They then used that to make some sort of impractical weapon that destroyed other traptanium clusters, and refined those into more practical ones
Eon broke through Traptanium in Superchargers, so I’m inclined to believe that the Portal Masters have a way of destroying it, meaning they possibly forged the weapons in the first place. It’s likely that Eon himself made the Trap Masters’ weapons, at least that’s my headcanon
I love the Superchargers since their vehicles are like extensions of their personalities. On top of that since there's only 10 of them there just feels like so much care was put into each one.
I think this game series is still so cool at the age of 22 today. It was ahead of its time when I was about 10/12! The swap gimmick was the last time I've ever heard from them. Family was poor back then and we had to move a couple years later so they couldn't buy me a set. Ngl, kinda broke my heart, but it is what it was. I still look back at it and all the fun conversations I had with my friends. Gosh, I wonder how much the gold figures cost now...? I had a couple of those and felt like flexing my rich tastes of shiny and rare figures
I remember Giants, I miss Giants I got Swap Force later because I saw the commercial and the gimmick looked neat, but I didn't enjoy it much I actually didn't bother to ask about Swap Force for that reason. Yeah, the gimmick *looked* cool, but so did the last one
If pumpkin eye brawl were to appear like the figure in game it would not work properly with his laser attack. It would be more difficult because pumpkin eye brawl isn't just a recolor
All these years later, and the Swap Force are still my favorite gimmick. Imaginators take a VERY close second, but man little me's mind was BLOWN when I saw I could mix and match these guys and make the perfect power set for each character. It's probably the most customizable a Skylander has ever been, power wise at least. To this day, it's the only set of Skylanders I have every normal version and variant for (not counting chase figures, cause those were hell to come across) and I love them all to bits

Mostly watching this for the nostalgia, and it’s making me realize that I basically played Skylanders on hard mode… I had no clue that the gimmick landers for each game usually did more damage than core ones, I just chose who I played based on who’s abilities I liked the most LMFAO
I think it’s always good for the first game in a series to not have some fancy gimmick, so then it can be the template for later games to place gimmicks on.
I’m glad I found your channel, I fell in love with sky landers almost ten years ago when I got Spyro’s adventure for Christmas. It was the first truly story driven game I played at the time and was absolutely mesmerized. The way the player was referred to as Portal Master really made me feel as though I was truly interacting with the world. Absolutely love these games!
You forgot to mention that the guest stars in superchargers were also amibo compatible and the only ones to be amibo compatible (You could switch the bases on the bottom to skylanders to amibo).
Trap team was probably my favorite. It was also cool that you could see who you had trapped on the Wii U pad when you played. Imaginations was the worst one. I liked to have the figure and see the characters in the game, so when the characters became these crystals, they just lost me
When I was checking this out when I thought of gimmick skylanders of thought you meant skylanders with certain gimmicks to them to make them abit different in battle then others like fiesta for supercharges being a more distance character who can also swarm the enemies with multiple little Skellies for example
i like your Brawler Imaginator, as he just looks like a total bruiser so it is rather fun. cause those tiny legs are funny and then the hulking upper body and how quickly you have your guy dash about punching them to bits
I originally thought that this video was going to be around Skylanders whose main game-plan revolves around a gimmick. While that is not what this was, it was still an interesting watch. Though, I’d still love to see a sort of analysis on those more gimmicky Skylanders like Star Strike, Fist Bump, or Pop Fizz.
I adore Fist Bump and Pop Fizz, I used to have Star Strike but haven’t tried her out and unfortunately when moving to a new house we left her behind unintentionally.

Idk I feel like the imaginators took away one of the biggest things that appealed to me about skylanders, which is how different each skylander was. All skylanders of a battle class sharing a moveset with the customizations being primarily cosmetic just doesn't do it for me

Id argue that the trapped villains are more like the imaginators, with the sensei's being like the gimick skylanders, considering that 3/5 gimick skylanders are GIANT

I loved going to stores like Walmart, Gamestop, Target or Toys R Us and browsing through their Skylanders Isle to see if they had any I still needed for my collection. Sometimes when I go shopping, I sometimes run to the Videogame section where the Skylanders used to be just to see if maybe they had old Skylanders in the back in stock and want them sold out. Sadly, not the case. I think even though it's sad that Skylanders is over, maybe it's for the best that it ended. Look at Imaginators. It wasn't as good with fans as the other games and it was too short and heck, it barley had Flynn, Cali, Hugo, etc. They replaced them with the Core Skylanders like Spyro and Stealth Elf. Personally, I feel like Skylanders Peaked at Trap Team. Should've ended there IMO, especially with it's ending and how we trap Kaos at the end and thus make him good. Even though there is a comic in between Trap Team and Superchargers that explains how Kaos escaped, but still.
Would be cool to see a Skylanders game where the main gimmick was that every previous mechanic (Giant, Swap Force, racing, trappable villains) was featured
I love every gimmick of the Skylanders games! However, if I were to personally say my MOST favorite gimmick, I'd go with Swap Force, because I had loads of fun continuously swapping out the top and bottom halves a lot as a kid, was really enjoyable to make endless combos in Swap Force!!!!! I do also love Imaginators the most because I love the idea of making my imagination a reality, and believe me I have a really BIG imagination!!!!!!
I wish I could experience Skylanders again for the first time, truly a great set of memories as a kid. I feel it lost its charm after Swap Force though and my favourite was definitely Giants. I miss those days so much.
Dude I have 1 eyebrawl and it's the pumpkin one. I was so excited and happy to use him and now every time I use it I get sad again knowing they will never change this since the stopped making skylanders games
I actually loved seeing you use Magna Shift in swap force, years ago my cousin and I found out that combo is basically unbeatable in PvP, he’s absolutely busted
i like to use magna charges top half when leveling bottom half's of swappers cause the magnet abilities combined with the coin room in the main hubs well means you get a bunch of coins so just log in go to the room with magnet on leave back to main menu rinse and repeat
If you want another fun swap force combo that works well, you can try Blast Drilla. The banana turrets are actually effected by Blasts fire-spit that power up projectiles

I think both Sensei and Imaginator are both the gimmicks, which work well together
I think it could be argued that SSA's gimmick was dragon Skylanders since each element had one and Spyro is the titular character.
but they don't do anything unique and aren't exclusive to just that one game, so they can't count.

However, if I were to personally say my MOST favorite gimmick, I'd go with Swap Force, because I had loads of fun continuously swapping out the top and bottom halves a lot as a kid, was really enjoyable to make endless combos in Swap Force!!!!! I do also love Imaginators the most because I love the idea of making my imagination a reality, and believe me I have a really BIG imagination!!!!!!

I wish I could experience Skylanders again for the first time, truly a great set of memories as a kid. I feel it lost its charm after Swap Force though and my favourite was definitely Giants. I miss those days so much.
Dude I have 1 eyebrawl and it's the pumpkin one. I was so excited and happy to use him and now every time I use it I get sad again knowing they will never change this since the stopped making skylanders games

I actually loved seeing you use Magna Shift in swap force, years ago my cousin and I found out that combo is basically unbeatable in PvP, he’s absolutely busted
i like to use magna charges top half when leveling bottom half's of swappers cause the magnet abilities combined with the coin room in the main hubs well means you get a bunch of coins so just log in go to the room with magnet on leave back to main menu rinse and repeat
