I don't think there was a rule to not strike with the knuckles of a fist, just like how I don't see round house kicks in pankration, they aren't worth the risk of breaking your hand or shin bone; effectively losing. And with hard bones at play, that risk is heightened even through accidental damage. In my belief, in open hand combat, it's not worth throwing round house kicks. But rather kick with the heel or bottom of foot, rather than the shin. As well as using open palms and the more fleshy part of the side of the fist used in hammer fists to keep power, but not risk breaks.

I don't know about acupuncture, but I once read that the ancient Greeks believed in "numa", which, I believe, translates to "breath" or "air", which was supposed to travel through the body along meridians. Sounds a lot like "chi" to me. And Alexander did make it into India, bringing Greek culture with him. And all the Asian martial arts look to India as the original source.

Chiron the centaur and other mythical creatures were of course used to emphasize certain elements of combat
That being as strong as a horse was a benefit
And footwork/ mobility was a key element of that
      Horses dont fight, men do
Blending the strategy of man with the athletic attributes of a horse was probably portrayed as the ideal
      Hence these myths

Ehhh Elbow strikes cause significantly more damage than a closed fist. Hear me out, we know that the knockouts in mma, muay thai, and bare knuckle boxing are far more brutal than the knockouts in boxing the majority of the time, yet we don't see nearly as much cte or traumatic brain injury. The reason is actually the padding, it acts much like hearing loss not from big abrupt events that can be taken semi frequently but rather prolonged exposer. This is being recorded in all contact sports and the increase in padding is not good for the longevity of athletes. It doesn't make sense to me that elbows would be allowed but closed fist strikes wouldn't. Maybe a progression of each style of fighting then ending with full contact strikes and grappling? Maybe amateurs and professionals had slightly different rule sets for the health and wellness of athletes? I bring that up because that's exactly what we do today in combat sports. I love your videos I'm new to your channel and share a passion for the this and all other combat sports as well I just wanted to offer another perspective keep up the great work bro!
