Regular shoes cost $80 these days. To get a year out of an $80 shoe that comes with a clip insert that you are tugging on the sole of with all of your leg strength likely hundreds of thousands or millions of times, in that time span, is pretty damn good. I pay $150 for work boots that I'm lucky to get a year out of.
LOL! Bought GLOBE VICE SS in 2011, used them almost everyday and they are still with me - only the inner lining on the heels worn to plastic. And they also smell like sheet after 6 years despite of several times I cleaned them in washing machine.
LOL! these are bike shoes... they clip into the pedals. When you pull up on the pedals, it's basically 2 counter forcing pulling the upper and sole apart. That's not something that happens to regular shoes very often... unless you stepped in wet concrete lololol
For $80, used for cycling AND walking around like normal, you got off cheap. My last pair of DZR's lasted about 8 months, I paid $70 for that model at the time. I used them for bike polo, commuting, and wore them all day walking around plenty of times. I cannot complain about the quality for money here. After I reached out to them about wearing out, they sent me a new pair, free of charge. This may not happen for everyone, but my experience with dzr shoes has been great.
Hey man, super cool channel. This was the first of your videos that I watched as I searched for a DRZ review. Not only was this video thorough and informative but I've now watched dozens of others and I feel the same with those.
My DZR shous just died, the insert has broken. But I have had them 5 years, used to commute a total of about 20 miles a week. I am buying some new ones immediately.
Glad I found this video. I wanted visual proof that they do fail around the heel. So to make it short. If you ride under 10 mph these are perfect. They'll last at least a year. However if you ride an average of 18 mph in a busy city like NY where you stop and start constantly don't expect them to last a month.
I got these on sale for 40 bucks and i have put close to 1000k miles on them and they are amazing! I don't ride the insane miles you do and since I ride a geared bike im not back pedaling to brake so that may count toward the wear. They could be a bit more stiff but I love them
Quick question do they make that annoying clicking sound as you walk when the metal makes contact with the ground , also do they work with crank brothers candies - thanks in advance love your videos
Must say, I think that's sounds pretty durable. I think the fact that they clip in and also provides softness is a difficult combination. The soft parts will constantly grind and stretch where they're next to unforgiving stiff parts. 1 year of daily use sounds pretty good.
Chrome Kursk 2.0 is a huge plus. I have mine for more than a year or 2 at least and it is still in excellent condition. I would call it bombproof but maybe it would be due to the different city and different way we ulitise the shoe itself. But sad to know that DZR product doesn't hold up.
Try the Chrome Kursk Pro shoes, they're a little stiff and the cleat slightly touches the ground but they are extremely sturdy and water proof, paired them with Shimano PD-A530 pedals amd that makes the perfect commute set-up
Where are you at currently with this? I've got some super stiff road shoes I like but I feel like they're a bit overkill for more casual rides. I'm wondering if I may be able to find something thats also compabible with my SPD-SL pedals
I've had a pair for 2+ years and have ridden hundreds of miles with them. They hold up great. Your cleats look hammered. What happened, considering the cleats are recessed?
hey zack, hows the sizing compared to vans (say era or authentic)? been wanting to het the jetlag nero. also, what's the word on the crank bros . eggbeaters? yay or nay? thanks!
I ride a pair of dice with eggbeaters. They pair nicely, considering the small platform of the pedals. However, the close to one square inch of surface area with the beaters definitely plays a role in power transfer.
Have a pair of decade old 661s. This is their last year of use, in daily messenger duty. Did, for a second, consider DZR, but after seeing this, nope. Still like them, these would be my fancy 4th pair of backup shoes, but for shoes that last a year I wouldn't go over the price range Aldi/Lidl use
You didn't mention if you wear it every day for one year on fixed or road. Judging from your other videos it seems like you mostly ride fixed, that puts different pressure compared to regular road use.
I have DZR shoes but can't, for the life of me, clip into my time atac pedals. On my regular road shoes, it's no problem, but the dzr's, with their cutout recessed cleat placement, seem to be giving me a real problem.
+LURX da GOART some small washers would work. Personally I'd try to find something plastic to sit between them, to dampen some vibration. Also, more importantly, you'll notice there are small notches in the cleats that help dig into the plastic shims usually provided to prevent shifting, and to be able to tighten the cleats enough so they don't loosen
GreyFawkes0 I see I see. Ok, definitely didn't get anything like that. I'll probably order some of these. I'll also try the hardware store in the meantime. Thanks so much for the advice! Ride safe.
For 80 dollars lasting a year is good. Think about it you pul it and push them off and on your pedals, mostly the pulling tears them apart . Its normal. And really durabul
I really like how you used your phone to get good audio. Inventive! But the shoes to me look like they're under-engineered for what they're meant to be. A converse-style sneaker shoe is just not designed for the kind of forces the user puts on them when riding a bike, cleats and all. The constant pushing and pulling on the seams just tears these shoes apart- combine that with sweat ingress and you're looking at a broken, disgusting shoe three months in. They really need to re-engineer their shoe to be able to take the kind of force. There is a reason cycling shoes are so rigid.
I think ridin clipless with this kind of more sneaker shoes is a expensive, bad quali, and ugly compromise to cages (with good laminated straps toshi/mks alpha and some Track pedals with no grip). If clipless than with stiff mtb/road shoes only...I ride some more expensive mks straps+ mks track nuevo cause they stay in place so you can fit them a little loose for fast exit and in case of a crash but they tight enough for pedaling and skids + 100% freedom with you shoes (no click click special shoes, and easy walking).
Cost of ownership 365 days per year (240 days per month bike commute)* 80 dollars cost DZR ----------------------------- 80 / 240 = $0.333 cents per day, DZR shoe cost .33 cents per day to own/ DZR shoe *I agree, the DZR shoe should never delaminate at the sole; this shoe should be glued and sewn at the sole.
Yeah, 80 dollars for shoes that last a year isn't terrible but in both examples the shoe fails catastrophically, if you're riding brakeless that could potentially kill you.
I've seen better and prettier shoes for commuting: 5 ten or any Shimano or Giro (budged/commuter, non pro shoes). My personal favourite are Keen for bike commuting.
Let me get this straight, you wear these shoes EVERYDAY for a year, and you "abuse them."? And you are complaining about durability? Seriously? Dude, you're embarrassing yourself!
Regular shoes cost $80 these days. I feel that 80 dollars is really really good for a shoe that lasts a year. i mean some shoes that at just for looks cost more.
I must have had a lucky pair of DZR's. I did delivery work with them for almost 2 years. I had the low top lace ups.
Dang for real? every single day for a year? for $80?? thats actually really good!!!!
For $80, used for cycling AND walking around like normal, you got off cheap. My last pair of DZR's lasted about 8 months, I paid $70 for that model at the time. That's one jazzy guitar track!
Great, I was looking for shoes that I could use with clips but without the noise and discomfort of clip less shoes. Will give it a try. Thanks man
Great. You convinced me to continue using my Big-5 High-Tec high ankle shoes. I really wish High-Tec would make some bike shoes.
Hey man, super cool channel. This was the first of your videos that I watched as I searched for a DRZ review. Not only was this video thorough and informative but I've now watched dozens of others and I feel the same with those.
Any shoe will explode with that use. 80 bucks a year isn't that bad. 6 dollars a month for good looking cycling shoes.
I'm buying those Fuckers
love the vids n engagement man!
a year of constant use is extremely durable dude lol wtf
I had a pair of $70 nikes and they lasted me like 3-4 years lol and those are the only shoes I wear everyday
Toyota Prius yes but do you pull them of something its stuck to
DZR's lasted me about 4 months then the fixed gear made short work of them. Had to go with Shimano mtb shoes, which I'm very happy with.
My DZR shous just died, the insert has broken. But I have had them 5 years, used to commute a total of about 20 miles a week.
I am buying some new ones immediately.

Keep the honesty! Thanks man

Buy 2 or 3 pairs, and rotate them. I've never had a shoe last very long that I have worn daily, and that includes well built motorcycle boots.
Quick question do they make that annoying clicking sound as you walk when the metal makes contact with the ground , also do they work with crank brothers candies - thanks in advance love your videos
Zach Gallardo thanks so much you are the best thanks for all the awesome videos keep up the good work
Would you look into chrome industries shoes?
Must say, I think that's sounds pretty durable. I think the fact that they clip in and also provides softness is a difficult combination. The soft parts will constantly grind and stretch where they're next to unforgiving stiff parts. 1 year of daily use sounds pretty good.
where did you buy your DZR at ??? Can they be found here in SD ???
Have you ever tried Chrome Industries clip less shoes?
Chrome Kursk 2.0 is a huge plus. I have mine for more than a year or 2 at least and it is still in excellent condition. I would call it bombproof but maybe it would be due to the different city and different way we ulitise the shoe itself. But sad to know that DZR product doesn't hold up.
Hi Zach, do these take eggbeater cleats? Thanks
What about chrome 415 storms?
have you tried chrome shoes
Try the Chrome Kursk Pro shoes, they're a little stiff and the cleat slightly touches the ground but they are extremely sturdy and water proof, paired them with Shimano PD-A530 pedals amd that makes the perfect commute set-up

Travis Baldwin I don't know of anything walkable compatible with SPD-SL, don't think that exists.
I feared this may be the case; these cleats are pretty substantial
Travis Baldwin There is a product by the name of "Anykicks" you may want to look into.
Jose Silva interesting. a little pricey for what it is but certainly interesting.
how bout chrome shoes? Do they last longer?
What pedals do you use
I've had a pair for 2+ years and have ridden hundreds of miles with them. They hold up great. Your cleats look hammered. What happened, considering the cleats are recessed?
Chrome's look better in my opinion
hey zack, hows the sizing compared to vans (say era or authentic)? been wanting to het the jetlag nero. also, what's the word on the crank bros . eggbeaters? yay or nay? thanks!

The heelies of biking.
Maybe your uncut nails cut thorough the shoe?
My uncut penis was cut at birth.
Lmao I noticed too. Like damn, how does he keep them that long?!!
what about the Giro grynd
im a fan of the Chrome casual looking shoe
Have you considered Chrome? Their shoes are similar to DZR.
How about Five Ten District shoes?
Just got them. Hope they hold up a year at least!
Oh wow that's those shoes.
Sees price- wow!
Lives in UK- thought there would be another catch.
Watches to end- hmm, maybe not
I was going to get a pair of DZR but I found a pair of Giro republics 50% off for $75.
A year of daily use is like... A lot. Especially for 80 bucks
Does any company make size 16 bike shoes?
Ok, Thanks.
You didn't mention if you wear it every day for one year on fixed or road. Judging from your other videos it seems like you mostly ride fixed, that puts different pressure compared to regular road use.
dude why you decrease the uploading video schedule? make more video dude! I am a fixedgear rider from indonesia and I love your video!
I know what you mean, but I bought Chucks for like 70 euros and theve last me for like 10 months
Looks dangerous if they rip like that imagine no breaks and dzr 💀
I have DZR shoes but can't, for the life of me, clip into my time atac pedals. On my regular road shoes, it's no problem, but the dzr's, with their cutout recessed cleat placement, seem to be giving me a real problem.
They should have come with a plastic shim that you install between the cleat and the platform of the shoe to extend the clip depth.
+GreyFawkes0
Nope. Didn't get those. Would metal spacers work to safely extend them?
If so, I can stop by the hardware store.
+LURX da GOART some small washers would work. Personally I'd try to find something plastic to sit between them, to dampen some vibration. Thanks so much for the advice!
Ride safe.
Dude, SAME. My DZR's (3 PAIR) literally FELL APART within 6 months. The build quality is depressing :(
I only get a year out of regular walking shoes if I wear them every day.
DZR dice all day for 3 years
$80 shoes that last for a year are actually really good
Man's never bought any other sneakers
your pretty cool
For 80 dollars lasting a year is good. Think about it you pul it and push them off and on your pedals, mostly the pulling tears them apart . Its normal. And really durabul
Is this kid for real. Shoes that lasted a year? Bike shoes at that? You should write them a thank you letter kid.
Are the best
My normal shoes only last about a year.
I really like how you used your phone to get good audio. Inventive!

Every day man? That’s a lot of wear and tear bro. Probably should have bought another pair to rotate with. Sweat kicks though.
I think ridin clipless with this kind of more sneaker shoes is a expensive, bad quali, and ugly compromise to cages (with good laminated straps toshi/mks alpha and some Track pedals with no grip). I've been using a single pair Chrome shoes for over three years now. Talking about bang for your buck.
Same, but they were my nike shoes
how are they when skidding do they unclip?
Cost of ownership
365 days per year (240 days per month bike commute)*
80 dollars cost DZR
-----------------------------
80 / 240 = $0.333 cents per day, DZR shoe cost
.33 cents per day to own/ DZR shoe
*I agree, the DZR shoe should never delaminate at the sole; this shoe should be glued and sewn at the sole.
A year of daily use for shoes around $100 is great. No pair of running shoes will last near that long if you run in them every day.
Seems to me a city commuter riding a track bike brakeless could not trust these especially if they mash hard and skid a lot.
Chrome industrys make some like that, they last at leat 3 years
"Quite enjoyed them alot"
Too much words
$80 for a years use is a little over $0.20 a use
Yeah, 80 dollars for shoes that last a year isn't terrible but in both examples the shoe fails catastrophically, if you're riding brakeless that could potentially kill you.
OMG I love fixies so much! itz fun and cool, makes u look fly. nicest thing ever inventet!
Hah. Got you. Just kidding, keep up your work I enjoy it!
Velo sambas
5ten shoes
I've seen better and prettier shoes for commuting: 5 ten or any Shimano or Giro (budged/commuter, non pro shoes). My personal favourite are Keen for bike commuting.
get 5 tens
Chrome Cycling shoes have the same issue. They fall apart and are poorly made.
Chrome shoes are better quality
Let me get this straight, you wear these shoes EVERYDAY for a year, and you "abuse them."? And you are complaining about durability? Seriously? Dude, you're embarrassing yourself!
Get those nails cut, dude. It's creepy.
Ill make my own these are ugly af
