The most brutal uses of Brain Freeze Iâve ever seen.
He probably could have milled everyone (or at least 1 more person) with that though and won the game right there. He had 34 copies of brainfreeze which is 102 cards
I know you guys were hesitant (and slightly abused) for not playing thassa decks, but this was one of the most exciting and satisfying videos you've ever put out and I loved every second of it. The decks were sweet, and the commanders did so much. Not all cedh games fit this description, but this game felt like it truly demonstrated the pinnacle of edh deck building and piloting. Thank you all â„
Thassa is the best wincon, not playing it is not playing with power
@@nicolasquijano5471 while thatâs true, it doesnât make for interesting content. Watching people win with the same 2-3 cards in every video is pretty dull.
@@nicolasquijano5471 not the best wincon in a temur, selesnya, bant, or omnath colours. And the channel's name is playing with power, not playing with thoracle. If you think you need thoracle to be playing with power than you need to take a hard look at the format.
@@CardboardLord it kinda is the best win con tho. Like it doesnât make for super exciting games tho I get that, but thoracle is disgustingly efficient. I think the greatest thing about playing with power is that all of their decks even with blue black can play on the same level without it
@@ercolacri3500 couldn't agree more
It seems like Chulane triggers from almost anything
Zack Sneezes.. Chulane Triggers :))
When that storm counter shows up đ
The ol' bait and switch!
Zackâs combo turn was the kind of beautiful insanity that makes me love cEDH, and the table forming Cardboard Voltron in order to shut him down immediately just reinforces those feelings. This may be one of my favorite games you have released thus far!
Brain Freeze as a kill spell!!!!!!!!!!!!
AHHHHHHHH so good! Favorite game of all time, been watching the channel for a few months!!!
Omg that was crazy.
"And aimed ALL copies at him, *just in case*." Beautiful.
Aah yes morning coffee and some CEDH itâs a good start to my Friday. âïž
That was the most intense coordination I've ever seen! Great job from the whole table to stop Zack!
That turn Zack almost went off was hilarious
Never seen a cEDH game where 2 people died to COMMANDER DAMAGE
And the third died to mill that didnt come from an infinite combo.
Technically, Mike also died to regular damage...
Love the end music. Feels like a great adventure has been completed. Great game!
Same! We were thinking the same thing :)
This was one of the most entertaining videos I've seen from this channel in quite a while! That brain freeze tandem hit was jump out of your seat drama!
This was a absolute blast to watch. I watch every episode and this is easily going to be one of my favorites. I literally started clapping when you guys double brain freeze to stop his win. Amazing work to all of you guys. Can't wait to see more!
Fantastic video. A bunch of great decks, and having spent so much time with the Kalamax folks in Discord it's nice to see a database build (or very close, not sure) get some play instead of the usual storm builds that get more attention.
Great work!
This was an amazing game! I just started learning more about cedh and you guys have such awesome content! Loved this game so much and can't wait for the next!
Another excellent game! Really been loving the variance lately and you guys have really been able to show off some awesome plays and deck building skills.
Truly happy to see a Kalamax deck win. I can't tell you how many EDH/CEDH videos I've watched of him doing nothing but being removed time and time again before getting a single trigger
Folger is my hero lol
The quality triggers Chulane's ability
Folger came in absolutely CLUTCH this game. Well done sir!!
Always enjoy seeing the game results stats at the end!
I never wouldve thought to use brain freeze like that! Im so glad i just ordered it for my kess deck. Btw you guys inspired me to try building a deck like the reoccurring kess build(s) i see on here and im so happy with the results! I even went as far as challanging myself to build a land base that would allow me to use thassas oracle with tainted pact instead of consultation (eventually ill get consultation but its expensive and a friend had a archive tainted pact)
10/10 gameplay Everytime and I'm always in the edge of my seat on what's gonna happen next
Oof that Chulane punish
Awesome win Folger. Glad to see you piloting Kalamax. I built the deck last year as my first foray into cEDH and I love it, but boy is it tough. I think you had a great match up here with Selvala giving you more cards, though. Run it back again against some harder match ups please!
It's always a treat watching Folger play a control deck in these videos.
One of the best interactive games Iâve ever seen! In Most of these games the other players canât stop the combo!
Iâm still happy not every game is ending with thoracle anymore
It helps that no one played black this time đ
You and everyone else who only watches last minute of the videos
@@Jaakington well, or itâs a disappointing ending most of the time to a great game, but itâs not a huge deal but itâs nice
Great game as always guys. I don't know if its new... but really enjoyed the intro music during the starting hand reveal.
One of my favourite games I've seen in a while great work looked like lots of fun. I hope to be able to join the tournment in August
One of the most brutal matches I've seen in a while
Donât even play cedh but doesnât change the fact itâs so fun to watch
That game was wild! Absolutely loved it.
This game is an excellent demonstration of "it's the journey that matters, not the destination." Begin spoilers now.

That double brainfreeze play was so excellent and was part of what I love about cedh, some of the most fun and powerful interactions I see in the game! Kudos to mah boi Kalamax and his pilot Folger on some excellent gameplay there, overall this seemed like a super fun pod and I wouldn't have even minded seeing a Thoracle win in this one with how intense the midgame was!
Iâm actually trying to decide on my first cEDH deck between Kalamax and Curiosity Control. Think this episode pushes me over the edge in favor of Kalamax!
Both are freaking sweet decks. You can't go wrong with either, but kalamax wins will always feel sweeter; I guarantee it.
Kalamax is one of my favorites ever. Favorite color combo and a really nice mix of commander power and ability
Sick match... it was back and forth... it was awesome
That was an awesome game!!! Side note. I wanna see these painted nails haha.
That was really fun to watch . Good game
Ok that was the best game I've seen on this channel yet
That was such an entertaining game to watch! Awesome.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Fantastic game! Brain Freeze for the win! WoW.
That frowny face Mike made just made my dad!
Outstanding game!!! Tks
Teamwork makes the dream work!
Cool pod composition!
Love the defensive brain freeze, similar thing happened in one of my games where I "punished" greedy golos player with storm count in low twenties. He was left with 8 cards in the deck. And I followed it with Kederek Leviathan on my turn. Best game ever
Absolutely amazing gameplay
Love it! Amazing game.
The best format in MTG!!!! â€ïžâ€ïžâ€ïž
You are correct
the second brain freeze made me laugh hahaha. great game
Great show
Great game guys!!!
Can't wait for that Ragavan cEdh deck!!
I literally shrieked. That was amazing
Yes, finally someone running Selvala!
This game was nuts!
What an awesome game!
That was awesome
âOk guys, we took care of the threat! Now⊠resume killing each other.â
Nice vid
Fantastic
Such a beautiful Kalamax!! I loved this game.
Woohoo đ
11/10 content.
That was a great game guys
Damn flame sweep is awesome tech for superstego
I play a pretty similar Chulane list to this one with the thoracle/lab man line. Is Zack's list the new hotness or is it part of the channel working to run less of that specific wincon?
I also went heavier into stax pieces with stuff like Collector Ouphe, Linvala and Dranith Magisrate. (At time of building I didn't own any fast mana and it seemed useful to close the gap.)
when top cedh staples from mh2 will be released? awesome match btw :)
That's one scary stormy stegosaurus
Amazing to see someone actually got milled in cEDH. Great episode.
Someone losing to mill and someone losing to commander damage, no combos involved in either. A strange game indeed.
I enjoy your guys content . I donât know if Iâd go with a CEDH version of my Krenko deck for my first CEDH deck .
Mob Boss? Just make sure he doesnât get removed. Heâs the most important card in that deck.
@@benjaminking3677 I know thatâs why I have Greeves in there to protect him .
Heâll be niche but you can get away with it in certain metas
Apart from it requiring an additional red pip, is there any reason to run flame sweep in kalamax over volcanic fallout? The can't be countered seems like a good upside the player damage can be cheeky after someone ad nauseams
Flame sweep doesn't kill his bird of paradise
What a game
Damn!!!
Dang I thought Chulane had this one! Maybe next time.
oh baby kalamax
12:12 that was some Vento Aureo beatdown meme material right there. Also that was sweet on Zack's part just constantly getting more and more value without the need for a true infinite. Chulane is cool as hell
Zack: Iâve won!
(Brain Freeze triggers appear on the stack like Diavoloâs afterimages)
Mike and Folger: KORE GA... REQUIEM... DA
Would the brainstorm have resolved after Zack died? I thought that if the active player dies, all spells and abilities are exiled from the stack
No. When a player leaves the game, only their spells and permanents are exiled. In fact, the turn continues on as normal with no active player.
Wooo Kalamax
How was Folger able to tap Kalamax to get the copy on brain freeze at 11:48? I know it affects nothing at all. I was just curious since he was not tapped prior to the casting of that spell.
Brain Freeze has (Storm) it copies for each spell cast before it this turn (not including the player who cast it but all players). When the storm count was 17 or whatever the spell was copied 17x and as in instant triggers Kalamax's second ability where he gets +1/+1 counter when ever an instant spell is copied.
His first ability (if tapped copy the first instant you cast this turn) wasn't used at all
that's not what i thought that storm counter was for.
Missed the chance to say the table fell dead silent.
Also discussion, would a silence that cost 2W for an instant that had the silence text, but also split second be playable. Or would it be too expensive?
That might be playable, but very expensive. That would be a completely insane effect in cEDH, having guaranteed protection for your combo turn. With how few creature counterspells we run in cEDH, Grand Abolisher is almost the same effect though!
Someone explain the interaction between kalamax and the 16 copies of brain freeze?
Kalamax's second ability triggers whenever you copy a spell, so it gains the counters for the storm copies. The first ability didn't trigger at all because it was untapped, but if it did, it'd just create one extra copy (not 17 extra, because storm is a cast trigger).
To have multiple copyâs doesnât Kalamax need to be tapped? Or was just the storm count for foldger at the end there?
Kalamax' +1/+1 counter ability doesn't require him to be tapped, just the copy half does.
@@R2Rebellion in the vid I was pretty sure they said copied , didnât know if it was the storm count or his ability to copy
@@manshark4099 It was just the storm count.
Was watching muted, and was confused why there was a bunch of Kalamax's on screen, so I had to rewind just to see with sound
Ok, maybe I'm wrong, but at 00:13:12 wouldn't Mike casting Flusterstorm on Shaun's Flawless Maneuver be considered a spite play and possibly king making? He knew he was going to have no blockers after the flamesweep resolved, and would therefore die, so countering Shaun's spell that would save his own creatures in no way saves himself or progresses the board state, so really he is leading Folger to a win easier by ensuring that Shaun will have no blockers.
I may be missing something, but it just seemed like a pretty blatant spite play against Shaun to make Folger win and him lose.
@@yanjia1777 I thought the same thing, but Folger would've been able to pay for all copies no matter how Mike targeted them. It seems like playing flusterstorm at all was just a dead card.
The reason I did that was because I knew Folger could pay for Flusterstorm, and I needed Shaun's spirit to die so I could get a blocker for Kalamax. Unfortunately, Folger had the answer for the spirit. It was 100% not a spite play. -Mike
@@PlayingWithPowerMTG ohhhh that makes more sense. Thanks for the clarification!
Question: is this the first time someone win with commander damage?
Regardless of what anyone has to say about the lack of ThOracle this was a very fun and interactive game. Loved it!
Why did chulane double the brain freezes wouldnt it have only made one more copy?
Folger: and ill f*ckin do it again
Chulane is my cEDH deck, loved the card ever since it was spoiled. I run it as a Bant&Taxes list because of budget and a very greedy combo meta at my LGS. I get good results but there are definitely cards i need to up the power and hate capabilities of the deck. I love different takes on the Commander and every time I see him or Gitrog in a video title I immediately click watch.
Would you mind sharing a deck list?
@@SuddenShock so sorry for the Late reply I commented right before I went in to work and hadn't checked my phone until now, if you're still interested I'll post a deck list tomorrow morning after some much needed rest. I'd be interested in feedback, questions, comments or anything else you'd want to talk about the deck e.g. play-style, play patterns, finding lines in the deck etc.

The selvala played could have tutored ashaya with the green suns and won on that turn
Much better than watching constant breach + oracle decks.
Or Oracle + Pact / Consult
@@Magidex i meant it to be read as the typical breach lines or oracle lines with pact/consult. It's so aggravating how they can just be thrown into any deck without caring.
Mess with the team
Feel the need to scream
Seeing that Hullbreacher the day after the ban and I am still puzzled. Chulane and Selvala would be rightfully punished.
How does the selvala deck win?
Make infinite mana through untapping Priest of Titania with Umbral Mantle or Staff of Domination, then use the infinite mana to activate Selvala infinite times while using Green Sun Zenith so you don't deck out
how big is Kalamax at the end of the game?
like Shaun have 47 life, but died in single punch.
I think it had 17 +1/+1 counters on it, hence enough for lethal commander damage of 21.
@@sclyze thank you, I didn't know such as rules exist.
but from what I read, it's cumulative. So player must track how many damage he/she has taken from all commander right?
@@illiacvie That's correct. All players must record commander damages from all commanders in play.
The exact rule: "704.6c In a Commander game, a player whoâs been dealt 21 or more combat damage by the same commander over the course of the game loses the game."
Note that this is only combat damage, and that it's tracked per commander - a property of the physical card, so it doesn't apply to copies, for instance. (Also, since it's tied to the card, it doesn't reset if the commander dies or if someone gains control of it.)
Yay My boi dino won yay
So I donât think Kalamax shouldâve triggered on the second brain freeze since he wasnât tapped
It didn't. The spell has storm and copies itself. Kalamax's second ability doesn't require it to be tapped.
Small thing, but in the title I think you should make a distinction between the more popular mono green selvala and the Green-White Selvala. Maybe put either G or W/G next to it.
Well monogreen Selvala is Bro-Storm.
