  • Arguably the greatest player ever to play in the SPL, Swedish striker Henrik Larsson arrived at Celtic from Feyenoord in 1997 and played a crucial role in helping Celtic end Rangers' dominance during a glorious seven-season spell with the club. He famously scored the first goal of the Martin O'Neill era against Dundee United at Tannadice, while he also scored a number of memorable goals against rivals Rangers, including an unforgettable lob in the famous 6-2 victory in 2000. Here are five of his best strikes.

Celtic and indeed Scottish football will never again see the likes of a player of the caliber of Larsson, not only was he the best striker ever 242, in 308 games, speaks for itself, the guy was also a set up merchant, his assists stats is unreal......add into the fact his loyalty to Celtic when he could have left and doubled his wages,.... well its just unheard of in modern football.......... Zlatan Ibrahimovic is probably the best we've had in Sweden with his long and distinguished career, Henrik Larsson with all his footballing intelligence and ability is another and the third is my childhood hero; Roger Magnusson. He was an iconic player for Olympique Marseille and he was one the the three greatest dribblers of the ball in the late 60's and early 70's along with George Best and Jimmy Johnstone. Personally, he's the best dribbler of the ball I've ever seen and he actually played some matches for the same club in Sweden as Henrik Larsson, Helsingborg.

There are 2 possible answers here. 1. Players who have (done the most/played the best) while in Scottish Football 2. The best players to have graced Scottish Football.
For me in the last 60 years answer to number 1 would be :- Jimmy Johnstone, and Davie Cooper. Answer to no2 would be :- George Best, Denis Law, Roy Keane, Larsson, Gazza, Laudrup.

    Yes he IS!
Don´t forget he was good in Barcelona and Man United too!
And he is definately Celtics best buy!Celtic got a lot of bang for the buck!
Fantastic player both on and off the pitch!!

  • @eduardovaldez-modonese5517

Larsson was a beast. And I loved that he got those 2 seasons in Barcelona to wrap up a fantastic career.
That said, I think no one performed as great as he did in Scottish Premier. But if the question would be the greatest all-time player that played in Scotland, I think that’d be Caniggia. Even considering he was already past his prime.
    That’s my thought, at least.

from continued.... ripping Argentina apart in the final. Was in the world cup 98 team of the tournament scoring 2 goals and 3 assists. He was ripping Brazil apart in the quarter finals creating the 1st goal and scoring the second. But for some reason he was hit and miss for his club career in Europe.......

AS a Celtic fan I always admired and liked Laudrup and remember a game where he was toying with and running rings round players in an International Torunament.. I think it was against Saudi Arabia. ...but for me Henrik stands out as the best player to play in the SPL for sure. Not only a great player but a sportsman, gentleman, and all round great professional. A credit to the sport and his country.
