    One more tip: if you buy a USB-C extension cable and notice that some features of your hub work and others don't (such as the USB-A ports), try flipping the female connector by 180°. It turns out that normal USB-C cables can be plugged in in either orientation, but the female connector of extension cables often only partially works in one of the orientations.

    Thank you sausage! This hub certainly looks like the best option out of all the ones I’ve looked at. One thing many musicians are guilty of is not wanting to take the time to understand the difference that is made by purchasing the correct cables. A cable that can handle the right amount of data transfer or power means all the difference when you connect all your stuff to the iPad and are working on a heavy project. When something falls down we always blame the software or the device, never the rubbish cable that came free with the hub that cost less than lunch and simply isn’t up to the task. I guess this is because this stuff is unbelievably boring. You just made it interesting and explained it all beautifully. Thank you. X

    Learned a lot about usb-c. The thicker the better and iPads will have a cord sticking out the right side regardless of using a doc/hub/multiport. Good info and straight to the point!

    If you have an iPad Pro I’d recommend a Satechi Thunderbolt 4 port replicator. It has 3 USB-C ports, a 1Gb Ethernet port, 3 USB-A 3.2 ports, an SD card port, and a USB-A 2 port that provides power even if the iPad is not connected. It supports 4K HDR and has an audio io port (3mm, 1/8 inch). The power brick provides 135 watts.

    I wish I could send you pictures! I purchased a usb c hub, or docking station really, that has almost everything I wanted just like your list, but my goals are are slightly different. I got this from Walmart it’s an Onn, and doesn’t say will work with IOS but does brilliantly. So it has the hdmi and I was able to hook that up to my 26 inch touchscreen monitor. It has direct Ethernet port 4 usb a witch I use a C adapter and an audio out. Then I used a 30 pin to usb A adapter from my Behringer Itouch studio 2, the $100 one I told you about and connected midi thru that. It has phantom power duel purpose inputs etc… My goal is to hook up CV and Midi from my small Eurorack set up as well as everything else that is hardware. successfully accomplished and able to use use IPad Quantizer in AUM 3 and Koalla, Blease etc… my IPad IS a multi module! I will do a video soon on it once I figure out all the midi CC stuff using the Beringer X Touch, The Kieth McMillan qunexus, the Arturia keystep pro and the QY100 along with the modular set up which is quite powerful! I’m running the the 4ms Ensable, the Radical Technology Swarm RT311 and the Beringer Brain. Plus Beringer Crabe, K2, Neutron and Roland M1. That’s 40 sequencer hardware channels without even using the IPad for sequencing other than the Quantizer and 65 oscillators before the IPads contributions let alone Cobalt, Hydrasynth , Kronos, PSR S 770 and Deepmind 12. And a few drum machines etc… with tons and tons of effects. It’s extremely complicated and what I listed here is what I have to work with, not ALL hooked together. The IPad is an M2 12.9, it’s going to take quite some time to work out and I’m going to use CZcams to help me create it! Love ya Jacob!

      @@LynkTheGreat I’ve been planning on it. Interesting enough Behringer has a new module coming out specifically for these issues. Using AUM is like having another set of modules! There is one guy I’ve seen do this on CZcams but he doesn’t share any of the connection stuff. This new Behringer has a 5 pin and a usb b out. At the moment I use a usb b to A adapter and have a Roland Bluetooth in it. I’ve been updating with it but it will make a great hookup to the IPads. There is absaloutey no reason to get Data or anything like that with this set up! I will get something up soon especially since these new fm synths are so useful. The Brains has a lot more capabilities than they are focusing on! I want to do a video on just that as well. :) PS the Itpouch has the headphone out I use. It is amped.

    So Jakob, I had remembered the earlier series of yours and was getting ready to send a note with something I found, then I saw this recent update. I think I found our true Unicorn though, and it's similar to your pick in almost every way sans 1. I recently picked up a Unitek uHUB S7+ (a Chinese import brand, but known for high quality enclosures from nVME M.2s to USB hubs). The Unitek I mentioned is also a 7 in 1 USB hub, it supports 10Gb/s xfer, and has 100W power delivery (and an actually functional data USB C passthrough not just PD). The only reason I pick this over all others, however, is because it has a headphone out port that ACTUALLY WORKS. They integrated a Realtek chipset which is picked up by everything (including the iPad) as a rock solid and stable audio output option. I love being able to use the audio out for many reasons, and every other USB hub I have found, if they had a headphone port at all, it was never ever stable (random disconnects and the like). This also has a longer cable running between it and the iPad - so you can get it settled nicely without it hanging strangely off of your device.. Now, I'm not a HUGE fan of this next part.. but it's grown on me, it's got some nice RGB morphing glows, so it's quite blingy.. I believe they have a more reserved version of it though. That said, it's grown on me, so not sure I'd give up the glow!.. Anyway, HIGHLY recommend for a good, stable, iPad usb interface that will not only handle what all the others out there do, but give you a stable enough 1/8" out to use live or studio avoiding delay. The price you see on their site, I found it for $20 or more less than that price. (I think I paid $50 for mine) www.unitek-products.com/products/uhub-s7-7-in-1-usb-c-hub-with-10gbps-data-hdmi-and-pd-100w/ Now if you will excuse me, I am going to go hug my little blingy USB Unicorns :)

    This is excellent! Thank you for being thorough and entertaining. Just what I was looking for. Connecting a USB-C hub with iPhones | USB-C Ligtning | What you need to know | haQ attaQ
      Please read all of this because there is some really important things in here when dealing with lightning. Is it possible to use a USB-C to lightning cable instead to connect the USB-C hub to an iPhone? Well Technically yes, BUT, let me stop you there. When it comes to lightning ports Apple has made these in a way that most companies making lightning peripherals need to get their stuff MFi certified. It’s a license that companies pay Apple for to get access to code and some times chips to put into their lightning products. It is possible to make these things without MFi certification but these products do not work that well and some times just stop working after iOS updates.
      .
      So here’s the deal. The best way to make this work is using a USB-C to USB-A cable connected to the hub. Then connect the USB-A cable to an original USB to lightning adapter. There are two types. The first is the simple one with a USB port, model MD821ZM/A. The other is the one with a lightning port for charging and a USB3 port, model (MK0W2ZM/A). I’ve tested both adapter types and they both work. The HUB connects and I get access to whatever else I have connected to the hub. I recommend the bigger adapter because it lets you charge the phone while it’s connected to the hub.
      .
      You see if you’re using a USB-C to Lightning cable to connect the hub and then connect that to the phone, in most cases (if not all cases) it will not charge the phone.
      .
      Lightning is absolutely hellish to deal with due to Apples MFi certification requirements. I’ve done extensive tests on lightning ports and connections the past nine years and I cannot even begin to tell you how much I hate it. The technical details around lightning is confusing to consumers. Many think that they can just buy the cheapest lightning stuff and it’ll work. There’s been too many times when I’ve tried helping people, I’ve realised they were using non-MFi certified stuff and that’s what was causing the issue that they were having. When I told them to get Apple stuff, they call me an Apple fanboy or worse. It’s tiring. I hope Apple switches over to USB-C soon for their future phones.

      Your going to have to buy connections twice. I suggest c cables (for iPad and it’s quickly becoming a standard on gear) the a C to lightning adapter. The problem with that is what works on an iPhone 7 may not work on an eight or other. If your planning on a 14 you shouldn’t have to deal with lightning. Basicly what Jacob said, lol

    H**Question:**
    I’m looking for a USB-C switcher that allows me to connect my USB-C EarPods to both my Mac Mini (for WhatsApp/Zoom calls) and my Pixel 7 Pro (for cellular calls). Here are the specifics of my setup:
    **Mac Mini:** Running macOS Ventura, primarily used for WhatsApp and Zoom calls.
    Pixel 7 Pro: Running Android 13, used for regular cellular phone calls.
    **USB-C EarPods:** Standard USB-C EarPods with built-in microphone.
    **Requirements:** The switcher should support seamless switching between devices without needing to unplug and replug the EarPods. It should also maintain audio quality and microphone functionality across both devices.
    Does anyone know of a USB-C switcher that can handle this setup?

    • @JakobHaq
      @JakobHaq  Před rokem +1

      Yes it supports MIDI over usb. All the hubs on the market does that. However it does not have any special MIDI ports like the old DIN5 MIDI connector. All the ports on the hub shown in the video is what you get. So if you have older hardware with older MIDI ports, you’ll need to use a MIDI interface or a combined Audio/MIDI interface connected to the hub for stuff like that.

    One thing i really need to know about buying one of these is will the audio out work in an amp or Kaos Pad three while I can charge at the same time. I bought an expensive multi hub….and the audio out worked with basic headphones but was too underpowered to work through a KP3 or mixer. The hub had a standard 3.5 mm Jack input.
    Hope that makes sense?

    • @JakobHaq
      @JakobHaq  Před rokem +1

      Think you missed that this hub does not have a headphone/audio out port. I didn’t need a port like that since this will be used in the studio where I’m always using my sound interface connected to the hub. You’ll have to keep looking for another hub. Also if you’re having signal issues like that you might want to invest in something like a mixer or similar that provides amplification/gain.
