I watched these toons when I was little, I,m not rich, but I,m content with food, clothes and shelter, so happy and grateful, 61yrs.
But they weren't called "toons" until "Who Framed Roger Rabbit"! Check out how many comments know that "cartoons" was the term. Just like "Loony Tunes" wasn't "toons".

I remember going to the drive-in back then a dollar car loan many people you can get in the car get in for 1 buck and they had a playground and they had a train to ride didn't you need much money then it was so fun

Waaay back when I was little I remember seeing this cartoon with my Mom. This cartoon does show that true virtue is overcoming temptation instead of avoiding it. That was why Greed lost in the end.

Andrea Geisler oh my goodness! I had a vhs tape when I was a little girl and I swear to you I had the exact same thing! it was a rainbow brite episode and right after it was this cartoon! I would watch it over n over when I was a little girl! every time I would watch it, I would cry n get scared of the creepy guy that threw the gold into the field! I thought he was so so so scary n I would cry every time that part would come on! I haven't seen it in years n ive been looking for this cartoon forever n I just came across it!!!!!
SAME!! We owned the same VHS apparently. Is was the Rainbow Brite episode where she and her house ventured into the Murky world. I think it was a movie. There were canyons and the horse almost died in sparkly pretty quicksand.

I forgot all about the villain, I just remember something to do with gold almost fucked up the village. lol He looks just like the Witch from Snowwhite! This story does have a powerful message attached to it, and it still tugs at my heartstrings.

What a great message--happiness is not to be found in money, but you have to have enough to get by comfortably before you hit that basic requirement in the USA. Still, recognize the simple things in life and their beauty: the birds singing in the spring, wild bumblebees in a blooming patch of flowers, a full moon, a fresh tomato you grew, a nap in sun-warmed fall leaves, a spectacular meteor shower. All free.
I grew up on terrytoon, and 50 years on they're just as fresh as time gone when.
Somewhere we have a reason to believe that the little kid is nothing but innocent human mind and the grandpa is God himself.

Surely this cartoon left a deep impression in me as an 5 years old boy. I forgot few details, but remember the whole story for decades. Truly the evil here was scary. No just in appearance, but in his goal. The holy Bible teach us " the love of money, is the root of all evils". Wars, crime, etc are rooted in greed, the ilusions that things make us happy, never will. I pass 60, and this is my # 1 cartoon😊
