#25 John Deere 3046R Cab Tractor Mid Mount Mower Cutting Grass

  • John Deere 3046R Cab Mid Mount Mower Cutting Grass is amazing. My tractor has to earn its keep, loader work, snow blowing, and cutting grass. There are few tractors that have 46hp and a mid mount mower with a cab. John Deere wins the race in my opinion, to boot it has a mower deck than can be removed in a minute. Hope you enjoy this.

    So I now with my 3039R cab tractor and it is absolutely awesome. Mow quality is surprisingly really good and can actually strip me with it. Nothing beats ice cold ac, Bluetooth radio, and literally quiet enough in the cab to carry a conversation on the phone if you need to.

    Nice tractor! I have 5 acres as well but went the other way and use a zero turn. I have JD 790 compact tractor with a 6 foot rear mower but the zero turn cut my mow time by almost 2 hours. I also have ditches that are a steep incline and it side cuts those well too as long as its not wet. A compact tractor wouldn't be able to cut them. Mowing in a open air station doesn't bother me as its only for a couple of hours twice a week usually and i prefer the fresh air. NOW, what sucks on the zero turn is the ride. Even with the upgraded seat there is no other suspension so you hit a good hole and its rough on my back. The ride of your tractor looks nice and smooth.

My previous deck was a 72" 7 iron deck on a 34hp open station 3 series JD. JD had to redesign this deck, i know they did the blades. This deck does a much better job than the previous decks. Thank you for watching. BTW the tractor is a dream. I've owned 5 open station tractors from lawn and garden to this tractor. The Cab is wonderful, summer and winter. The only concern is, what about the grass cut and left on the lawn - does it looks bad? Are You using mulching kit? How often do You do it - just once per week or more? Because I am affraid that without doing this very often, I will have a lot of grass leftovers.

      This is the best tractor mower deck I’ve ever had...it is a 5000lb mowing machine. It does not do the perfect job my zero turn Ferris. With any machine I mow when the lawn needs to be cut...wait a day then it rains and you mow and you can have a mess. So mowing so many times a week doesn’t work especially spring and early summer. I’m thinking you can trim closer. With a mmm deck, but the rear mover is better in rough ground...that’s why I have a zero turn. I hope this helps 🙂

    What tires are they? R4's? I have a NH T4.65 that i'm about to trade for a T4.85, but i could do with a mower deck gardening one for around the house, and am tempted by this...Have you ever used it for towing a trailer and if so what size? I'm tempted to use this on my smaller paddocks and then tedder/ bale with the T4.85. A decent mower attachment for my New Holland is a good 6k investment and 2nd hand JD 3 or even 4 series would be only 10k more and give me more utility and my 15 year old son could drive it helping me out a bit. I nearly bought a Boomer 50, but the JD's are really competitively priced and a mini-loader is all i need.

    Your videos are best by far on the cab tractors. Love how you go I to detail. That's what I like to see when searching for videos on machines. I have been drooling over these cab machines since they were released in 2006. I want a heat and AC cab so bad. Only issues I have is the weight of the machine. I leave ruts now with a 1000 lb machine. Do you mow with this in the spring, or do you have a second mower? Maybe the big tires don't rut as bad. What has been tour experience. If I knew I could cut the grass with one all year I would be game, But would hate to drop the money on one And never be able to mow with it.

      My favorite farm tractor is Steiger’s…look them up. Okay in a typical spring and fall i’ve had no issues with this tractor making ruts, this month, and may and half of june were a disaster, but like you said your 1000lb tractor is leaving ruts. So typically no issue until this year, and this tractor for a 5000lb machine does an amazing job cutting the lawn. I am currently researching zero turn mowers, i have a demo machine in my garage now. I do love the tractor, and have no issues with my previous open station 3 series tractor. Makes me wonder about global warming. thank you for commenting, please keep watching i’ll have updates.

    Approximately what grade side slope is that you are mowing? I am considering buying a 3R cab tractor with a 72" deck like yous, but would have to side mow about a 8-10 degree embankment with it. Not sure if the 3R would work for that. Thanks for the great videos!

    • @maraudermitchelli
      @maraudermitchelli  Před 6 lety

      My opinion i would not consider buying the tractor without adding the rear wheel spacers. It simply is not stable enough, i made a spacer video you can review. You have to use common sense when operator the machine, you can roll the machine on level ground if one is not careful. The deck needs to be adjusted when wheel spacers are added so the right side does not rub the right rear tire. I did this with my dealer mechanic who does a great job, not a big deal. One section of my lawn is at that grade and i mow it fine just be careful. The machine does the best job mowing i may make a video just showing the lawn mowed. I think you will love the machine. Ask the dealer if you can demo a machine, even a used machine at your house. Thank you for watching.

    Do you have any ballast in your tires? I mow a pretty steep incline without wheel spacers and the beet juice ballast works wonders on keeping the tractor much more stable. The first time I mowed with out the ballast I just about had to clean out my shorts. But with 440lbs per tire it makes the tractor handle so much better and more sure footed when mowing or using the loader. Oh and by the way the neckers nob aka steering wheel spinner is a must have when mowing It makes it a whole lot easier than with out it. I have the older version of your tractor a 3720 love it great little tractor.

      @maraudermitchelli  Před 6 lety

      brad coddington I do have a wheel knob now and did on my previous 3 series. I’ve always been Leary of tire ballast because I don’t want to use engine horsepower when the the weight is not needed, I don’t want the extra weight when mowing as areas of my lawn are wet. Owners who weight their tires love it, so my thinking could be all wrong. I may try it in the future, so don’t think I’m not slowly being swayed to ballast. I agonize over decision like this. The tires are R4. I had turf tires on my first 3 series 3322 and i regretted not getting the turfs. The R4s are fine on grass, no difference than my turfs and they are much better in the mud. When the yard is very wet, no 3 series or higher should be on the lawn. Unless your farming my opinion is the R4 is the tire for general use.

      Bruce I'm sorry i just saw your comment. It is not easy, partly because i take the mower off in a rough graded area of my property, and it's difficult to align the mower and tractor. Every time I've tried to film it...it's a disaster. If the deck is on a flat area, grass, concrete, stone, and you have a spotter given the deck is setup correctly it is a smooth process. Much easier on small tractors. Don't let this discourage you this tractor performing loader, mowing, and snow blowing more than paid for itself. At 5000 lbs this tractor did an amazing job mowing my lawn, cab was extremely comfortable. I now have a Ferris zero turn mower, and put more hours on the tractor moving timber than i ever did mowing in a season. Great machine stay healthy.

      GF for a 4500lbs machine it does a great job on the lawn. This mover deck and tractor is the best combination i've had on a tractor. Does it mow as nice as my Ferris Zero Turn mower definitely not. But if you have dry conditions it does a great job. I hope this helps you, stay healthy

      The loader stick is disappointing. Cab units have cables instead of rods, my stick was very sloppy and they replaced the cables and it is a little better. I'm disappointment with this John Deere design. Make sure you have the RPMs near 2k when operating the loader...i hope you have rear ballast, or have filled your tires with juice. Also wheel spacers are needed, please watch that video of mine. I don't it will loosen up, but your problem is different from mine, the stick control was very sluggish. Please contact me if your struggling with this, your dealer should give you a better response. I hope you enjoy your tractor.

      Thanks Marauder . I did see your video on wheel spacing. My rear wheels are filled and I do have a rear ballast..... Wheels are in the narrow position and tractor feels unstable to me. Dealer suggesting flipping the wheels to wider position which will give me a few inches on both sides. Curious if you tried this before going the the spacers? Thanks for your response . Also, my name is Scott, somehow posting my daughter's name Katie on the post.

      Scott i did flip the rears, on my open station tractor 16 years ago I gained 3 inches a side, the 3046R cab i was lucky if i gained over an inch. This year i did swap the front tires and gained about 5 inches, I could do this because i'm not using the tractor to mow, so the front tires are not hitting the deck. Hope this helps.

      When the lawn is wet, any tractor even 500lb machine will damage your lawn. So it does not damage my lawn, it's quite amazing. If you have a low very wet lawn most of the time i would recommend a lighter machine. I've had garden tractors...but this machine does the best job cutting my lawn, i know it's hard to believe. Love it! Thank you for commenting.

      Woody83 I have 5 acres which borders a creek with woods. My tractor is over kill...but it cost less than paying a service to cut my lawn which is over a $120 a cut. I’ve traded up over 30 years from a craftsman, jd455, 4110, 3340 now a 3046 cab. My final decision was snow blowing in an open station I just couldn’t do it anymore. Btw cutting grass in a cab with ac in the rain at night is sweet. My yard has never looked better and no service would remove snow as well as me and my tractor. To me it’s another hobby.

      Due to the last 2 very wet years I’m buying a zero turn mower, probably a Ferris. There are so many choices for mowing a lawn, also there are many excellent tractors covering many horse power ranges. Of course I like a three series JD but their two series and my brother has a one series he loves this is the most popular. Brands I like JD, Kubota and Kioti. My tractor did an amazing job cutting my lawn, too heavy for the wet yard perimeter and too big for my woods. Hope this helps ask again 😊 thank you

      @@maraudermitchelli - yeah, I follow your channel and was disappointed when you said you were getting rid of it, as I love the tractor content. My issue is I have a 2015 3046R with R4 tires, but they are the shorter ones, and I was wondering if the taller R4s would get my 72D mid-mount deck a bit higher off the ground. Seems logical that it would as for every 2 inches taller the tires are, it should net 1 inch higher off the ground for the deck.
