The Complete Story of Reykjavik Part 1 - The Seltjarnarnes District
Vložit
- čas přidán 5. 10. 2022
- This is a direct continuation of my series about all towns and villages in Iceland but the greater Reykjavík area gets at least 8 episodes since it consists of 6 municipalities and 8 towns in total. Each city district (town) has its own characteristics towards history, appearance, politics and more so it's plenty to cover.
I will therefore use this series to describe not only the capital and its surroundings, but also Icelandic customs and culture, good and bad and leave nothing behind, like i have done in my other work about smaller towns around the country.

Ég elska myndböndin þín virkilega!! Takk fyrir!
Takk kærlega :)
One observation From my travels around the world is that the inhabitants of the capital of many countries feel, rightly or wrongly, that they get worse services than those in neighbouring towns & cities.
Also I love it when a small town just point blank refuses to join up wit its land grabbing neighbour for whatever reason they choose 🙂
Thanks for sharing, and visiting :)
Thank you. Look forward to listening to the other parts.
Please do a video on Innri and Ytri Njardvik, Sandgardi etc. love these !
I will of course do them as well, very likely this winter, pends on my next trips and weather when I'm south next :)
Wonderful video Gylfi ! I have family members that live all over Reykjavik, so I am very much looking forward to the rest of your video series! Takk Fyrir! Lisa from Winnipeg Canada
Thank you so much Lisa :)
@@JustIcelandic you are so welcome! Where can I find your part 6 , 7, and 8 of the Reykjavik series . Also I really enjoyed your video about the Iceland movie. I shared it with my Icelandic Club here in Winnipeg. I hope they enjoyed it as much as I did.
Thank you for this informative video. Visited for 5 days in 2022 April and it was one of the most brilliant holidays of my entire life. I still think about it daily. Instead of visiting clever places such as the Penis Museum and flirting with the beautiful Icelandic girls, I should have spent more time studying the actual landscape and history of Reykjavík.
Flirt with the nature and it's flirts back and welcome back to Iceland :)
I must say, I love your channel. Thank you for all your channel content.
I appreciate that! and always welcome :)
That was very interesting. Like so many people, I subscribed to several Icelandic CZcams channels for the volcanoes but I'm enjoying learning more about the island and the people. I'm from Atlanta, Georgia, USA. Our metropolitan area is 5.5 million people. In the US we have counties as well as cities, so that includes six counties that each have more than half a dozen towns like Seltjarnarnes. But we have the same kinds of political things going on.
Thanks for sharing :) and visiting
Hitting quarter of a million in the capital area. And Icelanders are not exactly used too large crowds except on some few occasions, and the traffic is increasing. So for some of them from small towns or villages in the country side Reykjavik seems unbearable 😃
Thanks
Thanks mate and greetings from Reykjavík :)
Hi. Enjoyed this 1st video on Reykjavík. Do people mostly own their homes in the city? I am in Scotland and feel drawn towards Iceland. Looking forward to the next episode. 🏴
Mostly yes but it a miserable rental market now, to expensive so that won't help people to buy, but this topic need actually a separate video :)
Re building development, seems to be the same story all over the world. Manufactured scarcity, and ludicrous prices. Land developed, and released, at a snails pace.
The old story, just follow the money...
This series is going to be great. Thank you sir
Glad you think so :)
Thank you for sharing this 😊
I defiantly would be free entertainment for the tourists, seens as I cannot even spell in my own Language ! Alaya La Palma and UK but in my defence I do speak Spanish and I would love love love to speak your language!
Welcome to Iceland :)
Just amazing! I love the way you teach all of us about your country! And I love learning! Thank you for sharing this awesome footage and history!
Thank you so much!
Recalled visiting the lighthouse back in 1979. It seemed to be the most exposed to the weather site in the capital; 300+ degrees of wind off the bay.
Welcome back, I'm sure it looks better now :)
I fell in love with Iceland when I visited this past August. Love learning more and more about different areas and history through this channel. Keep up the great work, thank you!
Great to hear! And very welcome
I so enjoyed my walk through that community ... though was unaware of those facts. Thank you. I look forward to the series, and returning to Iceland one day.
Welcome back :)
Very very interesting, thoroughly enjoyed it, easily live there.
Great to hear :) and welcome
Thank you for starting this story for us. I love that you have a bird sanctuary so close to the city, and surprisingly, your suburbs look much like ours in Australia.
My pleasure :) more soon :)
So, you're finally tackling the big guy :) As always, love the insights into town development, how things got to where they are today. Looking forward to the next episodes!
Coming soon :)
Wonderful video and a great idea for a series! Looking forward to the rest.
Thanks so much!
We ended our recent holiday with a delightful bicycle ride around the peninsula. Unfortunately, the lighthouse island was closed, but only for a good reason - leaving the nesting birds in peace.
Yes it's closed then :) better luck next time :)
Wonderful educational video
Thank you 🤗
Wonderful 🌟
Many thanks
Excellent work - thank you! 😀
Many thanks!
an interesting video.im looking forward to the rest.thank you for sharing them with us.
More to come!
Lovely 😍 👌
Thank you! Cheers!
Very nice video 👍
Thank you very much!
hello man, it has been a really quiet month there at fagradallsfjall. do you think something will happen any time soon? and as always thanks for the update!
I don't a new eruption coming this year in Fagradalsfjall, but Grímsvötn is another story, update soon...
Thank you for the interesting look at The Seltjarnarnes District of Reykjavik!
I don't see many small boats or people fishing from the beaches ... is there a reason for that [eg: previous overfishing], or is it political?
No the small boat harbours are elsewhere :) no fish industry around here :)
My wife and I love Iceland and have dreamt of buying property there, but it's nigh impossible as a foreigner, then there's the sheer price lol
The prices are awful now, but but eu citizens can easily buy here, but harder for others
@@JustIcelandic well that's unfortunate, since I'm a US/UK citizen, but you know....Brexit :/
Cheers!
Wow - about a month ago, Reykjavik Grapevine did a newscast here. (Episode #211). Valur walked across the rocks as the tide was rising. :D So very nice to see all the drone footage and get more of the sense of the place. If I lived there, I would not want the "big city" setting up all over the beauty, either. We humans keep increasing our numbers, then kind of overrunning the lifestyle we seek.
Welcome :)
You're in a beautiful place
Very much so :) thank you
👍😎😊
😊
Always thought it is a part of Reykjavik city but it is not it is a 4.700 independent community. Anyway the border line is almost nonexistant. Maybe they will merge? 😉 I've been told the greater Rvk area is now close to 250,000
First ! Hope you‘re fine… !
I am! Just upgraded the computer and editing software, lot's of add on's as well so it's a learning curve trough the next videos :)
