I got a '58 bus with the original tranny. Bought a" BENTLEY PUBLISHERS WORKSHOP MANUAL 1950-1962 VOLKSWAGEN TRANSPORTER" to walk me through it and it turned out great. To do it right, you need the proper clearance specs, and those paper gaskets are important in that process. Good luck.
funny story I tried to rebuild a gearbox and ended up with 3 reverse gears and one forward (lol) You guys are going to smell like gear oil for months it never comes off your clothes, nude from now on ;)
