Thank you. Saved me 300-1000 bucks finding this! I was going to just buy the whole backflow. The prices on these vary wildly.
American Backflow is THE place to go for backflow. Their tech support is unmatched, as evidenced by this and all their other support videos. Love dem boys, me!
thank you!
Thanks…awesome resource
Great .
it would be nice if the demo repair unit looks like the ones us guys work on after 25 years in service... plus you didn't say to check the relief plate for flatness... should have been a 6 screw design.
Thank you for the video. Very helpful to see. I used a Relief Valve repair kit. After I installed the diaphragm and cover, I opened the ball valve from the water main. Water started shooting out from the sides of the Relief Valve where the diaphragm is. I have replaced Relief Valves in the past and I have never seen this behavior. I thought perhaps I did not tighten the bolts enough, so I tightened the more, the spray lessened slightly. I ran one of the sprinkler stations to get water flowing through the backflow assembly, the spray did stop briefly, but when I stopped the water flow the spray continued.
Have you see water shoot out from the Relief Valve cover plate before? I am not sure how to proceed.
Well, I found this video that seems to have answered my question.

Hi , thx for the video, where do I buy the parts for relief valve
The yellow plastic cap broke on my back flow valve. How do I get a replacement for it?
I can't get the check valve assembly, or modules, to come out no matter how much I rock them, or how hard I pull. We have real hard water here. I was thinking that I could pour a muratic acid/water mix into the holes and let them sit for a few minutes like cleaning out my salt cell on my pool. Any other ideas?
Robie, sounds like the scale from the hard water is locking those check in place. You need to be careful with anything that you add into the water system. You will need to make sure that it is safe and acceptable to use in a potable water system.
pouring acid into an rpz is bananas! 😂
Do you normally leave the shut off valves open while replacing parts? Seems difficult to do
Noooo, if there’s flow in the unit, you’ll have to shut the inlet and outlet ball valves off, and I would open the test cocks, to let any water (and pressure) out
not #1 test cock, though! It will continue to have flow, because it's upstream from the inlet shut-off
Tyler you would need to shut the valve down during normal repair. This unit was a demonstration of how that repair would be performed. This unit was not an inline backflow.
Great video - I’m trying to open the valves to see if there is any debris in there and cant crack the valves open without breaking the pvc coming out of the ground .any suggestions?
Photo? Because I’m not understanding how this would “break” the PVC - as long as you can secure the part you’re torquing against. You may need a helper with a pipe wrench to hold it steady. If the check valve cover is stuck, you may want to use a propane torch to heat around the threads to help break it loose. Make sure you have inlet and outlet ball valves shut off and test cocks open, to let off any pressure in the unit!

@@jamey9758 trying to send picture but i guess you tube wont let me copy and paste
@@allandenola5968 Is there a way to message on CZcams without it being seen by everyone? I haven’t tried a private correspondence on it. I’m hesitant to put my email or phone number where everyone can see it, but I want to help you
Might have found you on FB. Just sent you a message there
Gow much is a rebuild kit lowest im seeing is 93$ up to 250. Crazy
you damaged the relief valve stem removing that small o-ring... use a plastic pick.
