    This here reminds me of my childhood, right down to the fat tire ATCs. Your son will forever appreciate the time and effort you spent to show him how to build/repair/innovate things and will likely never have to pay a mechanic.

    Awesome!!! I did this same project at nearly the same time. Crazy... Mine was to a 1988 Yamaha Blaster stripped frame with good plastics and tires for $50. I ended up with a little over $300 in it. Original front brakes work great. So sold the rear caliper for $50-60. (I forget) Had to cut the frame and reweld it some. Mounted up the Predator 212, and bought an ebay torque converter. The blaster has the sprocket on the left so I didn't need the jackshaft. I used the original 520 chain, just bought a different front sprocket to fit converter. Fun little ATV for a kid.

    Someone said it looked way under powered? Not sure how they figure that... that little quad originally came with a little 49 or 90 cc engine. That predator is a 212 cc engine! More than double the displacement of the 90 cc and 4 times the displacement of the little 49 cc. And with the set up you have, just changing out a couple sprockets could make that thing either scarey fast or a frackin stump puller! Awesome project.

    • @balabay77
      @balabay77  Před 8 lety

      Thanks Chad for supporting and sticking up for our project. Just because it doesn't go 100mph doesn't make it underpowered. Sometimes kids troll in comments section not knowing that with little mods this thing can be fast enough to do some serious damage. Currently it will do about 40mph which is plenty for us. Appreciate you kind words. Cheers.

    I just finished a very similar build on a smaller 110 atv with a honda gx160 swap. Im curious why you went with a jack shaft. I used the same clutch assembly you did and was able to connect my stock chain and sprocket. My 6yr old helped me on the project and the thing runs like a dream. Im glad to see some one had the same ideas as i did and you did a really great job I'd like to show you some pics of my build some time and swap ideas

    • @balabay77
      @balabay77  Před 8 lety

      I've used jackshaft because the rear sprocket was on the right side of the quad. Maybe I could of flipped the rear axle but there is no guarantees that everything would of lined up correctly. Original sprocket had different pitch therefore had to get another sprocket for it. Now that I have a jackshaft on this thing, changing out sprockets will give me low end torque. Would love to check out your ATV. What's your preferred method of sharing pics?

      Even though it takes some work to convert a frame but the up side is that motor is always replaceable/ swappable. Good luck with your project and let us know how it went. Would love to check it out on youtube if you ever upload it. Thanks for watching and have a great day.

    great project that quad would be good on trails personally i would put a oil cooler on and some lights for trails and long days working around will have good torque with that setup and take the governer off there for like compressors and jetwashes n shit to keep a decent powered throttle response

    Probably not a lot of snowblowers in your area but they are a great source for cheap horizontal shaft engines 8-13hp in my area.

    • @balabay77
      @balabay77  Před 8 lety

      Yeah, we don't have any snow in our neck of the woods. Have you seen or heard anything about Ebay engines called Powerland PD420? whats your take on it? some kid told me that they are just as good as Harbor freight engines but much cheaper ($179.99)

  • @bradencoonce
    @bradencoonce Před 8 lety

    now that the build is done, for about 200 more dollars you can modify that engine to get even more out of it. Nrracing has kits. Nice build!

    Hey, I've been enjoying your various projects and like some others have said here it's also cool to see fathers and sons doing these kinds of things together. Keep it up.
    On this project I do wonder if you're going to have problems with the transmission output shaft. It was a neat idea to use it the way you did, but I'm betting it should have a support bearing and bracket on the free end to bear the side loads. I think eventually you're going to have trouble with the transmission output shaft and bearings. Easy enough to add though.
    Heh, also with the mud bogging, you might want to throw a transmission cover on there.
    Oh, and where you took out the headlight, you should paint it black and install a "Larson Scanner" in there. ;')
    Keep sharing these projects and inspiring other dads out there.

    • @balabay77
      @balabay77  Před 7 lety +1

      Hello Chris
      I like your idea with the Larson scanner and maybe I'll install it on my future project. As far as torque converter bearings go, they are cheap and easily replaceable. I bet that these bearings will outlast the internal components of driver pulley or driven pulley. I agree that cover is a must on this tranny. This ATV is our "village bicycle" and it gets abused on regular basis. So far engine and tranny works flawlessly. Glad you checked out some of our videos and appreciate your input. Cheers mate.

      No worries I welcome constructive criticism and try to improve upon it. Obviously, many of our projects are made out of junk and are not meant to last forever therefore even if they break or die it gives us another reason to post new and improved videos. Thanks for the link to Larson scanner I'll have to check it out. Have a blessed day.
