The total lack of advertising for this event made it seem to me like it was never going to happen. Something that's huge with prize money or payments that huge would normally have tons of advertising.
Right, I've seen amateur boxing matches have more advertising than this.
Part of the reason they never advertised was they didn’t have a fixed date or location so…yeah….but it was always possible someone would pull a rabbit out of a hat. Until recently.

The fighters were offered a crazy pay out for this event, which is why you have Hooper who is still competing willing to take the injury risk. This concept was possibly too good to be true all along. I doubt anyone without 'saudi' money could come close to matching the prize money offered in this event.

It’s absolutely insane to me that a caliber person such as yourself can get completely pushed aside and contracts can just be “extended indefinitely” just to avoid having to pay you out for your time.

Combat sports have become such a joke because of how it takes forever to schedule anything and then they just get canceled or postponed all the time
The insane thing is that a guy who is as experienced as Brian got suckered into this ridiculous scheme. I get that they promised a stupid amount of money, but lets just say that a company promising John Wayne Parr 20 million dollars and saying they will get millions of PPVs for their first ever event of a bunch of strongmen punching each other has the credibility of a Nigerian prince.

With an event like this people shouldn't have to only hear it from a few CZcams channels. This should be advertised all over the place. The total lack of advertising this whole time just makes it seem like it was never going to happen.
Exactly, unless you keep up with strongmen you would never know this was gonna happen. The promotion is horrible. Strongmen, nfl players, mma fighters are involved with training these guys and no one is talking about it!

Hey Brian, sorry to hear it. When I first heard about this I was talking to someone and I said, "If it happens." I followed MMA a lot when I was younger and I saw these no name organizations promising huge payouts with big names come and go and some combination of the following usually happened: it never held an event, it never paid its fighters, and/or it folded. On the plus side, if you continue down this road, you'll definitely have more time to build yourself up as a martial artist.
This must be very diisappointing for you..youve been working so hard but you learned so much, and the other guys have been 100% supportive in teaching you..we will stand by you
A lesson learnt here. Don't trust things that sound too good to be true AND with legal agreements make sure there are clauses stating you get paid X amount regardless of whethter the event is cancelled or not.
Seeing someone this size, gaining skill at fighting is crazy. I'm so glad he's a good person.

One can only develop from proportionate starting competition, and from there, facing increasingly tougher opponents as you go from fight to fight. Your argument assumes he's on top-level right now, which is pretty impossible with zero fights under his belt. Also, since you alluded to his personality not being that of a fighter: Just because he has a humble persona and even if he finds himself being a bit too slow right now, doesn't mean he's incapable overcoming technical hurdles or finding the right mindset. Especially given his past track record as an athlete. If he managed to transform himself from a baskeball player into strongman, he certainly has the capacity to transform into a decent, if not successful mixed martial arts athlete. Some added running and a few kilos down and he'll be in great shape.

@@SuperMontstais that something to do with legal limits..? I don't think it is. It's more that it's so difficult to have a high level talent pool that isn't quite small, at that size. If Dana wants to make the fight I'm pretty sure he can, it just might have to happen someone really particular.

Don't stop training because when you do have a fight the time you spent off you will have to make up to get better but if you continue to train you will already have that plus that much more time to be better!!!

Sorry this happened - one thing, though: KEEP TRAINING! Reason being, another contract with someone else very well COULD land at your feet soon - and if the other guys STOP training, you GAIN that advantage over them, which could be huge - if you get another contract in 6 months and the fight's 1 year out and you kept GOING, you've TWICE as much prep time as them. It works in reverse, too - if THEY keep training and you STOP, THEY get a big advantage. Also, I'm frankly worried whether you can GET mean enough to punch someone in the face and MEAN to put their lights out - you'd need that. You're a nice guy. I think you need to kind of covertly, no cameras, have some real fights.
I'm BETTING another contract is coming. Just keep it up!

That is why in the legal copy you always have it to where you are paid even when cancelled or postponed for your time. Whether funding is there or not, the legal copy can supersede that and you still get possibly reimbursed for the cost of training and other expenses so it's not a total loss.
There were up front payments in the contract. It doesn't matter if the entity behind the contract doesn't think they will face penalties.

8 years ago, I was trying to recover from a hip/ back injury. I stumbled upon Mr. Shaw and have been inspired ever since. I'm not a strongman, just want to be fit in my 40's, but unlike most guys just bragging themselves, Brian provides true inspiration.

It is unfortunate, but hopefully you keep training. It doesnt have to be to fight, and maybe not as much time. But it's very clear that the cardio is looking fantastic, and seems like you are enjoying mma training. A great way to learn and train while being out of strongman

Well when one door closes, another one opens. This would be a great opportunity to give arm wrestling a try. There are a lot of people that would love to have you give it a try. I see Kyrill Sarchev is training with Denis Cyplenkov and Konstantine Janashia is training with Levan Saginishvili.

In the Middle East countries they have no problem generally in not following in what was promised or to promise something to be certain while it isn’t or not true entirely. Learnt the lesson and spread it. I say it from my own experience as well.

I just started doing kick boxing with my friend for about 2 weeks and let me tell you, just going through the motion I can tell that speed and technique is key. Once Brian gets the motion down, that left hook and right straight punch is gonna send them to a different dimension
After 2 weeks of kickboxing you are an expert. Another 4 weeks and you can become trainer on the highest level.

Its always so interesting to see a person have this kind of power and weight, I’ve watched bodybuilders and strongmen but have never seen a nearly 7ft person go all out in combat.
Just shows that your a real pro when you make a deal or mans agreement you stick to it your word is your bond . The positive to take from this is you found another sport that you seem to really love and enjoy which is great for you personally only good will come from this alot off interest from the public and fans to see this the right people will get involved to put this show together no even more so seeing how all you's pros putting your all into prep putting the hard work it needs it will happen my friend I'd love to see it

I'm not an expert in strongmen or MMA, but 30M (NBA all star salary) doesn't feel at all realistic for a match most people haven't heard of. I wouldn't have known, if I'm not Brian Shaw fan.
Even Al Iaquinta only got $250,000 vs Khabib in a UFC CHAMPIONSHIP match. He has literally earned only 1 million in his entire career.
