“Teaching jiu jitsu to big guys is like giving wings to a serpent” was a such a perfect line
😂😂
What an honour it would be to train with the legend Frank Mir. Also what a nightmare Brian would be as a proficient grappler oh lawd.
If he just gets to blue belt level he'll absolute ragdoll people
Show would gassed out in 2 minutes. White version of Bob Sapp
@romeolajh1602 have you ever watched a strongman event?
@wasdawasda3849 no , he isn't flexibility and he is still caught up in bodybuilding. Brian is gona get hurt if he doesn't start taking this serious
@@romeolajh1602”Shaw
Not only is Brian crazy strong but I really like how he actually asks so many questions to frank
Agree 100 percent. He asks questions because he knows what he’s great at, but is also humble enough to know when other people know more than him. I respect the hell outta people like Brian.
@@MrNicktheshit87 exactly bro, you can tell he respects it and wants to actually learn
His technical mindset from strongman really serves him well.
He wouldn't be where he is today without dedication and the man has TONS
Watching nick giggle at mma was the highlight of my day 😂 the way brian picks grown men up like children is hilarious.
the fun thing is he picks them up with zero effort and is just talking to Frank while holding them.
@@ironwolfgaming9632and on top of that he is not just picking up "grown" men, he is picking up at LEAST 250 pound grown men.
Here for Nick.
Nick is so damn wholesome. When they're about to roll and he's like "Oh, Hi B"
I can already imagine brian throwing people out of the cage like a keg toss event lol
Seeing how good of student Brian is really makes you understand why he is a 4 time World Strongest Man. He’s going to be extremely lethal in no time.
😂WHAT?😂
He’s already lethal. He can crush hands. No disrespect to MMA folks but he’s not Bradley Martyn
@@aajohnsoutube I knew someone was gonna comment "He’s already lethal." That's why I added the "extremely" part if you read it closely.
@@RJKT pretty sure “lethal”is like ”unique”. Not on a spectrum… just kidding. Agreed
dude he alrdy was lethal...all he has to do is grab you and crush you.
I love watching Frank train people. What a great teacher.
Frank is a very smart human and champion great choice for Brian to pick Frank knows his stuff plus he's a real heavyweight
@@coffeeyouuHE HAS THE MOST SUBMISSIONS OUT OF ANY HEAVYWEIGHT IN MMA HISTORY
I’m an mma fighter in the heavyweight division and watching this video has given me so much knowledge and things to practice
@@vincentven1262Frank has 9 submissions. Fedor has 15.
Yep, he seems like a naturally gifted teacher.
"Whoever taught you that did a really good job"
It was only Gordon Ryan 😂😂
Who was trained by John Danaher, possibly the best jujitsu teacher in the world.
I'm so glad Brian is like one of the friendliest guys out there because he'd be a monster with intent. 😂
He has intent it just isn't malicious.
@@MatteoFitness I think if he fights Eddie at least he has fuel lol, like that time Eddie took a shit in his trailer or threw a medicine ball at Brian's head, I'm from England but it's only right to support Brian, Eddie has been asking for some Dad energy for a while, think Brian is gonna bring him a deserved whooping lol. 🤣
@@danny1ft1Martyn Ford will win. I think Eddie will beat Mitchell Hooper, Martyn Ford will beat Brian Shaw becuse he been training in MMA for years and final fight be between Martyn Ford and Eddie Hall, Martyn will win
@@wingzero7316 you'd hope so, I think they might be an issue for him with raw strength but I think he'd likely beat them at the striking game, plus M, Ford does have a lot of intent and want to let loose when scrapping lol. Still he's a nice guy, he went easy on that idiot calling himself something hulk. 🤣
Did you see when he headbutt Eddie? That was definitely with intent!
Always love seeing the reaction of the guys getting picked up like its nothing when they are used to being on the ground
lol right? Some 40 year old, 300lb dude who hasn't been picked up since he was 8 years old hahahaha they are always great reactions
I like how the first thing that Brian does when he picks someone up is start walking. Just like in strongman competition except they are not as heavy as the weights he carried.
😆 🤣
Frank Mir is one of the most intelligent fighters out there, and his ability to teach is amazing. You are truly blessed to train with him! His insights into how a bigger man can utilize his strengths to upmost advantage, and how to negate the enemy strategy are impeccable. I could listen to him all day! You've made remarkable progress in the short time you have practiced!❤
Everytime Frank Mir is mentioned, I can only think about Nogueira's broken prezel called "right arm" 💀
Brian is so sweet. He stops to ask Nick Best are you OK? I don’t wanna hurt you. it’s crazy to see him during the hurt business. Good luck out there!!
anybody with respect will do that in training.. you just see it as dramatic and remarkable because your on the internet too much
@@motorbreathjz The only thing I’m on too much is your mother. And when it comes to training I wouldn’t let you sniff my gi! So stick to the horrible guitar riffs buddy.
Brian focusing on learning from grapplers and wrestlers is so cool, already planning to learn everything where his size and strength is gonna matter the most.
Exactly. He's not trying to be something he isn't suited for like boxing. He knows if he can wrestle and grapple that's going to be his bread and butter
@@jlogan2228before learning any fighting he could still destroy most people with his size and strength alone. And now he learns to fight? Its game over for everyone lol
@@John_on_the_mountain that is assuming he ends it in the first round. Otherwise his cardio would be toast.
For anyone unfamiliar with Frank Mir he was basically the first American Heavy Weight in MMA to successfully use high level Jiu Jitsu on a regular basis. Guys knew to tap when he locked in a submission hold because he didn't hesitate to break a bone and choke someone unconscious if they decided to be a hero and try to fight their way out. Frank Mir is an absolute legend.
This whole narrative is based around Mir breaking Tim Sylvia’s forearm in a straight armlock which was a total freak accident. Frank went 100% as all jiu jitsu guys did. He was just big enough to do a lot more damage. But not a stand out in this regard.
Don't forget Big Nog being snapped like a twig.
@@babyjessicascheekbones5463 bent at the standard Kimura angle ? Anyone so tough or stubborn WILL end up with a noodle arm with someone that big and strong twisting. Nogueira, Renzo and Helio Gracie standing together in history in a short line of dudes who felt their arms breaking and saw their own hands behind their shoulders and left it up to god. Some say foolish but either way, that’s a tough ass opponent to face if they’re willing to be maimed for the sake of their honor.
"guys knew to tap" tell that to big Nog lol!
I believe he was the first guy to finish and to submit Big Nog.
Brian is dead serious about this. Mir is the perfect guy to learn from. Awesome to see.
Brian takes everything he does seriously
Frank is a F(-d)🦆ing legend for so many levels. If Brian would regularly attend his lessons and we would have such a smushing monster in the making. LOL
What a freakin honor to learn from probably the best UFC heavey weight BJJ guy. He's got those tricks that work for big guys.
Werdum would be the highest level hw BJJ in history, but Frank would be by far the most analytical bjj hw & best teacher so great choice to train with.
@@stephenowens8658 Your right. I stand corrected.
@@stephenowens8658that’s arguable. Nogueira's 5th degree and has a higher ratio of subs than both guys. However, nogueira lost by sub only twice in his career. Once to mir...and once to werdum. This was way past nogueira's prime however, and he’s smaller than both of them. Neither mir or werdum have been subbed. So...all three are masterful former champions. Can’t go wrong with any of them.
@@Slayerformayor1983 Not arguable Werdum is far more credentials in the world of BJJ than mir or Nogueira.
Werdum
It's impressive to see how good Frank is at training people. He's the type of guy you want on your team. One thing that is so important with these big guys like Brian in mma is finding people his size to train with. Aspinall spoke about this too, he improved so much once he formed a team of heavyweights.
imagine shaw training with/learning from Aspinall...
I’m a heavyweight mma fighter and I’ve suffered by not training with heavyweights or at bare minimum guys my height, it makes a difference
Love seeing nick best pop up he seems to be the nicest geezer, it's also good to see Frank back to full health and his arm looks loads better
Frank is really good at getting these ideas across, and he's constantly thinking about adapting this to Brian's size. He's a legend for a reason.
Everybody is willing to teach Brian, who will never have to fight him. He's scary as hell untrained, but will be a legendary monster after all the OG's teach him techniques. We're all excited to see his first match!
What an awesome opportunity for you brian! Frank has one of the best minds for MMA!
This might be my favorite Strongman/MMA Fighter collaboration. Two legends that I have a ton of respect for.
And frank was a beast making other fighters look small. Brain is so big it crazy
I love that Brian's natural inclination is to just pick everything and everyone off the ground.
I love this. I really like how your channel is evolving and introducing so many things. Great stuff!!
Nick has the greatest energy ever. I love his reactions to everything!
Definitely! He had me laughing every time he did, haha..
Frank mir is easily one of the very best technical Heavyweights ever and was a great fighter in hid prime
Extremely well rounded and a great guy to learn from
Facts he is so underrated and unappreciated he struggled with a lot of shit and was a tactician the whole time.
I absolutely love the way Brian has embraced and shown passion for combat. Recognizes the physical gift he has, and wants to learn to use it like a warrior. Respect.
Crazy how everyone in BJJ seems to be just a genuine stand up dude
Its because you get humbled daily
@@atodaso1668 There are bad and good people everywhere. I don't need a bouncer to tell me that I'm mortal unless I have strange case of dementia where I imagine myself to be superman every morning. Nothing against BJJ; just tearing down some common marketing points for it.
What does your word salad have to do with my comment? @@miesvaillanykyisyytta3252
Stand up dude is a funny word for a bjj guy
@collinkelleu5609 yeah I realised that but thought I'd keep the irony haha
Been watching Brian for years. Damn his forearms are so ridiculously huge.
Man I hope he tries his hand at armwrestling one day
Old videos of him measuring them. If memory serves me correctly, they are 18.5” in circumference.
@@reeddill7842doing armwrestling they get even bigger
I like how Brian doesn't act like a huge celebrity. He's in there really focused and willing to learn just like anyone else that wants to be better. That's what makes him great
Frank Mir is a heavyweight UFC hall of famer lmao EGOs mean nothing at the Apex. Everyone there is a killer man.
@ThisOffendsMeTV yeah ik. I've been following MMA since UFC 1 lmao. Ik who Frank Mir is. Seen him fight live twice. My point is that no matter what Brian does, he never acts cocky. He's always as focused as can be and gives respect to everyone. Not all the strongman guys are like that.
@@nmsoccer222 well I’m sayin it might because Frank is a UFC legend so who would act high and pompous when another man is also famous?
But Brian is always a nice dude so I get what you’re saying
You'd be surprised. A lot of people do. Especially athletes. Brian is a lot more world famous than Frank. I'm also talking in general. Brian is like this all the time. That's my main point. Doesn't have to be Frank. Even with guys I've never heard of showing him stuff, he's the same way. His attention to detail, focus and determination is why he's one of if not the best strong man ever. He treats everyone with respect no matter who they are.
Nobody hurt Nick. I love Nick. Looking strong Brian.
That 'Hi B' was classic
I can't get over how freaking awesome this is. Love this series of seeing B Train MMA. I also like how it seems Brian is taking the route Hafthor took, Starting from the ground up, Working on Technique, and letting the Speed and power that is there come as he goes.
Always good to see Nick and Brian together!! Frank is a absolute legend. 💪
As a Canadian I can confirm that Brian's arm domination level is insane right now and he is and will always be recognized as the world's strongest man in the world.
He ain't no fighter
@@seanoxborough5830He ain't no bodybuilder either, or a powerlifter, a strongman (especially at his size) probably doesn't need to know how to fight. Whatever he does learn with just further his potential..

Brian Shaw has gotta be one of the most outstanding athletes of all time - above all else his attitude towards life is inspiring.
He's a modern day viking
This was awesome. I'm glad to see you approaching mma/arm wrestling.
What an honour to be trained and to be coached by Frank Mir Awesome guy is a legend in himself. I watched him fight a lot of fights, and I must admit he’s a great fighter. He’s a legend.. ❤
Frank is one of the legends in MMA. Love the guy
Very smart practising grappling. He is a big boy who is strong. It would take a long time and effort to condition to be a striker.
I do hope Brian watches these videos back over and over. This is a lot of info to take in for one session.
It was my thought aswell, that they gave him ALOT of info - hard to take so much in and truly remember it all in one session !
@@dragam9534 Its on video though, and its great to go thru the motions!
He's gigantic! Maybe all of his fellow strong men should train together for mma. Imagining rn how much it would suck grappling with these guys in a match because they'll smother u even before u hit the ground lol one bear hug and it's over fr.
i appreciate how you leave all the steps in the videos, makes it so your audience can visually learn as well
Brian with takedown and jujitsu skills is just terrifying
Man what a perfect teacher for those 2. Simple drills, the reasoning and how Mir shows them is perfect for Shaw and others watching. You can tell they got hit with “oh shit this is fun” bug 👍🏽
12:05 you can see how big of a heart our dude has!!! Doesn't wanna hurt his buddy. Much love man!
Great stuff love the content! Keep grinding inspiring me to never be afraid to step into a new space after being one of the best at another! True athlete
I met Brian Shaw at Mr. Olympia Orlando. He is the nicest, most humble man on the planet. What an amazing human being!
Nick's laugh instantly brought a smile to my face. 😊
What an incredible video, please post more of this!
If you're going to test MMA as a heavyweight what a brilliant choice to connect with this guy. Anybody who can break big nogs arm has knowledge for days.
"... being smart helps a ton" 🤣 This was amazing to watch. Frank is a patient teacher whos knowledge and ability to communicate are enviable. It was really cool to watch him demonstrate the small technical details that are so important. And watching Nick just giggle in the background was hilarious! Loved this episode.
Wow Brian you are really growing in leaps and bounds buddy you will be a literal force to reckon with. Thanks for sharing
Genuinly fascinating content. I was invested the whole way through.
Great video, thanks to Brian, being a person that trained Strongman just to condition what I already had & primarily being a fighter all my life I absolutely loved the content.
The level of knowledge Frank is giving you is priceless. I know it’s a lot to handle all at once but these are the guys you should be listening to. A lot of these guys have anywhere from 15-30 years of experience. And at a very high level in the sport. Some guys do the sport of MMA. Guys like Frank live it.
Nice to see some big man grappling lessons. Brian's size and strength will make him better at some things, and less great at other things. Frank will know what tools best fit Brian.
Please make more videos like this! Love it
2 legends having fun together this is amazing thank you guys
How friggin' awesome is this?! I've been a fan of Frank's since his EARLY days of MMA. I remember when Brian first appeared on tv doing WSM. Now they're together training?! Just epic.
Brian really will be the most dangerous man alive if he gets this stuff down and practices regularly. With his drive and dedication I have no doubt he will. Watch out world. There's a mega heavyweight comin at ya!!!
Once Brian becomes efficient at executing these moves, he is going to be even scarier than he is already.. Good thing he is a nice guy by nature.
Brian Shaw is a real tough alpa male, he doesn't go around bullying weaker men than himself, he could kill majority of men easily in a fight. There are people like Bradly Martyn, Hassan Piker, Zherka and others who are BETA males who only act tough, bullying smaller men and woudnt to people their size or bigger.
@@wingzero7316lol no he couldn’t relax but i agree he isn’t no bully

Frank is the reason I started in jiu-jitsu. Love that dude!! Brian keeps training with him and he'll be pretty damn good on the ground.
Brian such a gentle giant and Frank and his team are awesome
You can somewhat tell Brian doesn't have that animosity he'll need if he plans to compete.
It's there but not fully. Hopefully someone like Frank can pull it out of him.
(Unless his opponent is Eddie, I can see him mauling Eddie out of payback for all the pranks lol)
@@righttohavebeararms.4300 Nah you don't become the world's strongest man without having that visceral killer instinct. When it's time to compete, it's time to compete. I guarantee you any semblance of niceness will go away when Brian gets punched in the face and realizes the other guy is out to hurt him.
Loved this video!
So awesome to watch this, can’t wait to see where you take it
As a Freakin BEAST I can confirm that Brian Shaw will always stay motivated to train 💪
Fantastic too see frank so healthy again after so many trials and tribulations through his life. Always was my favorite fighter in the ufc
I loved Frank in his first run, then I hated him for a good while for shit Talking Brock after the 1st fight in what was Lesnars 2nd ever fight. Brock got his revenge and all was forgiven.
He seems to be a GREAT trainer and that has definitely gave him a second lease in life that most other fighters can't do.
This is great stuff from Frank. One of my favs from the early '00s
Bryan is such a legend. With his humble mentality he will pick these techniques up so fast.
In some of the choke holds where Brian has one hand free. It really seems he could just use his sheer strength to repeatedly punch someone on the side of the head to break free. Not the most effective way to break free but, it would allow Bryan to do great physical trauma + breaking free from the hold. Sometimes sheer strength can beat technical prowess.
Doesn't matter how strong you are in some positions you just aren't able to use it. How are you going to punch someone in the side of the head when their head is close right beside yours? The only opening is the body. That won't make his opponent break the hold.
@@BeardOfPower7 no?? you sure??
@@waynus2021 Absolutely positive and this comment is ignorant. You're not going to be able to punch your opponent in the side of the head when in a properly applied head and arm choke.
What arm do you suppose he's going to punch with?
@@waynus2021 To clarify it won't make Martyn Ford break the hold. The guy he's supposed to fight, he's a monster and has actually been in fights.
Brian is big and strong but his movements are restricted for that very reason. He can't punch as hard as a lot of people want to believe. You'd think he'd be able to knock the heavy bag off the ceiling like some juggernaut. Have you ever tried to punch off your back?
Saying all this and I want Brian to win, but he needs to ramp up his training and do some hard sparring to get used to punches coming at him. What angles to take and where to orient his feet based off his opponents stance. Let him go off instincts for a few rounds then try train this way he reacts naturally to be more technical.
All this grappling isn't going to get you anywhere if you don't know how to control the distance with strikes and get inside with foot movement. That's Brian's weakness, Is the footwork, he said it himself. A lighter and more experienced fighter will dance around him, kicking him in the legs for 15 minutes, and likely never get touched.
@@BeardOfPower7 That's exactly why I pointed on saying sometimes, not always. Watch UFC and you'll see occasional opportunities where this is feasible. It's more of a last resort. KEY WORD SOMETIMES. I never once stated it's what you do always.
I LOVE seeing athletes from two of my favorite sports of all time, training together.
i ran into Frank at the airport in vegas. We ended up on the same path so had a nice conversation on the way. I was surprised I was the only person that seemed to recognize him. Much more of a conversationalist than i would have expected. Super nice guy.
Brian you looking good man, you have toned up nicely 👌👌

Nothing better than watching professionals learn vs people who think they know everything, much love to all of you!❤people who talk about being monsters and knowing everything vs real monsters quietly absorbing information
This was awesome, very valuable training.
Watching MMA fighters giggle at being picked up by Brian will never get old.
Brian could get really far in mma just based on sheer athleticism and strength similar to bob Sapp.
or similar to another former champion strongman Mariusz Pudzianowski
@@narcissus79 Pudz didnt go anywhere in MMA outside the C leagues. Ppl forgetting Brian is 41 years old lmao. U guys really don't understand how bad stamina declines into ur 40s let alone on a guy weighing 380lbs wtf he has zero chance.
@@REXAZOR actually, as a strength and conditioning coach, you discover that endurance improves with age - look at a large majority of endurance athletes and they're over 35. Fighters on the other hand don't last. That's more to do with the nervous system being more prone to knock outs and concussion
@@narcissus79 I'm sorry but what endurance? You are being extremely vague.
There is a 5-10% decline in vo2max by age 40. This can be reduced to 5 or less if u keep training hard. But in no way does the cardiovascular needs for the sport of mma improve with age hence why any fighter u observe at 40 v 30 has much lower volume output and gets tired far more quickly especially if they wrestle. Just watch Damian Maia--Romero---Dan Henderson...or any older fighter they hardly throw any volume and they can hardly wrestle well anymore cause they get tired quicker cause wrestling and high flurrys ain't relying on the endurance your talking about lol.
The only endurance that will be okay as you age till 40s is long slow ass cardiac output type work for hours on end or muscular endurance. This is not what the sport of MMA primarily demands it is highly aerobically power (Vo2max peak) and Alactic (phosphagen system). This is due to the 5minute time rounds with constant 4-10 seconds flurrys and high end pace
So no..not a single S/C coach is ever agreeing with you that the endurance you need for MMA improves as you age lmao. Lets not even get into the decline in Power The decline in Speed and Reflex and the Decline in testosterone levels after age 37 which impeded recovery among other things....Some of those may not matter to a HWs as much esp roided guys like Shaw.... but the Stamina will after 1 round.
Good luck Brian!!! Love you in WSM and this next challenge is pretty exciting.
Nothing better than two legendary champion athletes from different spectrum’s coming together, always makes for amazing sportsmanship and broadening of sports as a whole! This is how we grow people !!!

brian is a student at heart, truly no ego just there to learn but can switch on when he needs it an absolute model human being i love watching your videos and no wonder they're ducking you with your strengh and competitive heart and the will to learn not one strong man can hang except thor maybe but he needs to really train his ground game

I remember seeing Rich Piana's mate Big Con train in the gym one day, and the size of the forearms was mind blowing irl. I thought I had good forearms at the time lol
You can tell Brian is worried about using too much strength, itll be terrifying when he doesnt have to worry about it.
He will probably always worry about it.
In another comment I said you can tell he doesn't have the animosity he'll need.
Hopefully someone like Frank can pull it out of Brian. It's there but he would probably have to imagine his family behind him and he's protecting them or something to fully get over the fear of hurting someone.
@righttohavebeararms.4300 I think he has a monster side, he used it in strongman, his competitiveness and desire to win will push him through.
Brian can flip that switch and go to the dark place. He does it on all of his big lifts. He will not have a problem going there in the ring. Once someone punches him in the face it will be on
What a masterclass that was. I've actually been struggling to finish arm triangles lately, did not expect to get a finishing tip while watching this.
Can go no wrong with Mir, hes one of the GOATs.
This is so cool! Love watching strongmen and ufc. Brian Shaw is so laid back and gentle at times especially for how big he is. He’s training with Frank Mir and is just casually taking notes and asking questions so politely -“ so it’s at this point I could kill a man? Got it.” 😂
