I bought miracle berry tablets for my mom when she was going through chemotherapy. It definitely helped her eat more.
I always suggest it to anyone that is prepping for the start of their journey w/chemo, as well.
Wow thanks for the tip. I had my first chemo treatment 2 days ago. It hasn't changed my taste buds or appetite yet but I understand it that will change as the treatment progresses.
Yeah was wondering, might help if you have lost your appetite in general, rather than just particular medicines you dont want to taste.
Perhaps a practical use would be with medicines that taste horrible?
i was thinking that gallon of stuff people drink for colonoscopy
Or things like maybe liver or spinach Or grapefruit
@@selinas8039good idea but I don’t know if you can mix anything with that stuff you know how sometimes when you have to go clear liquids only
Or spicy food.
@@jamesstephenson8789
Good point, the tablets look red colored which would be a big no no for colonoscopy prep
After this video, his stomach was like "you pregnant or somethin'?!"
Yeah, that stuff could be dangerous with the aftermath. Haha
@@todd-makes-videos especially the apple cider vinegar
😂 Yo stomach hold on
😂😂😂
@@todd-makes-videosoH WoW - he's going to be seriously PAYING for it in the end...
I am from India and have been subscribed to you for a while, just wanted to let you know that despite most of what you review not being available here, I still watch every video you put up because of you present products and how thorough you are with your reviews. Keep up the amazing work!
Could someone just ship it? To you I mean. If it were for purchase here I mean
@@shannonobrien9922they’re saying they enjoy watching the videos, most of this junk is useless anyway. Let’s be honest
I couldn't help but notice that you like Conan too. We can be friends lol.
@@user-vh7ki7xu7o maybe or maybe they REALLY want to try some of the stuff shown
@@user-vh7ki7xu7o >enjoy watching the videos<
yes, despite the products being reviewed not being available in their region. idk if they're actually interested in any of the products tho
I don't know why; but, I always love it when you say, "But, I digress." It really cracks me up. Keep on making those great reviews.
It's really refreshing seeing someone use proper punctuation. ❤
@@sepioify I agree.
What about -' Oh come on now!'
Those Miracle Berry tablets are awesome. About 8 years ago I ordered that exact same item off of Amazon. On my next day off, the kids and I made a big platter of different sour fruits and stuff to take to my wife's work for her and her work friends. Her friends still talk about it to this day. It was HUGE hit.
The lemon ASMR and beyond… I was not prepared for LOL
lol! Not gonna lie, grossed me out. Guess I wasn’t prepared either haha
I hate chewing noises, this video got the best of me.
kept ripping the headphone out of my ear
@@selinas8039 had to quit at 2:27. It's an actual illness. Most people can tolerate it, I just cannot at all. Small 1 second chewing is fine, but longer I can't
Right?? My sister and her grown kids would be throwing fits hearing those chewing noises! 😆
SAME. I tried twice and can’t get through it
All I'm thinking about is the aftermath and how much your stomach is going to hate you 😧
I have 2 live miracle "trees"at home here in Brazil, almost every week we have between 5 and 10 of fresh little miracle fruits! The results are even better with fresh fruits! It is indeed amazing!
It is every nice to use daily to avoid sugar and it is a great thing to show to our friends! Everyone love it!
Anything you shouldnt have with them?
@@EmeraldHill-vo1csprobably NOT McDonald's...
@@1cosmicdebris Probly not maccas period-ha.
You should've titled this video "That's weird, man!" bwahahahaha
When you get your colon checked you have to completely evacuate you system. One of the things you have to drink is Calcium Citrate and it's one of the most sour things I've ever consumed. I almost gagged on it. I bet this stuff would make that experience more palatable.
I think that this is a great idea. I'll check with the pharmacist to see if it's okay. It would help so much.
The tablets look like they have a red color which would be a big no-no for colonoscopy prep
@@themustar601 Thanks for this info.
@@westzed23the red color is in the tablet that dissolves on your tongue, not mixed into the prep solution. You should be fine.
I could see it as being handy if you like sweet beverages or juices, but don't want to consume a lot of sugar or artificial sweeteners. Like you said you could basically dilute some apple cider vinegar with some water, pop a pill, and then enjoy what'll taste like a nice glass of apple juice.
Your reactions were priceless! If a viewer didn't know you'd taken the tablet, he/she could be forgiven for wondering if you had smoked something medicinal first. 😉
Very interesting. I always wanted to drink my coffee black, but I need some sweetener and cream. I wonder if this would make me able to forgo the sweetener and cream? Though that would be one expensive way to get my coffee fix. Great review. BTW you always crack me up when you point out how expensive food is now, and man are you right.
You might be better off trying a different type of coffee or light roast. Some types tend to taste very chocolatey and light roast helps to keep those chocolate flavors.
should've tried some other fruits like strawberries and apples. With strawberries it makes them into the best strawberries you've had, every time.
Real world use-case is for people with diabetes I know some places they take them to allow them to enjoy a sweet dessert without it being sweet.
Always great reviews but anyone with misophonia turn off sound and use closed caption for this video.
Pretty much right after he started to eat the lemon lol
Oh man it was horrible!! 😣 I had to bail, couldn’t do it
It was brutal.
Hahahaha I could watch an hour of those facial expressions expecting the worst when you take that first bite!
I would buy that same brand and use it to lose weight, I had a sweet tooth and always had to eat some sore of dessert so I would make desserts with almost no sugar and use the tabs to make them taste like they had regular amount of sugar 😊
Maybe I could actually stomach the taste of salad with these.
I put this one in the "Fun for once or twice with some friends or family to watch each other react " category.
This is from the Miracle Plant, Synsepalun dulcificum. It is a tropical plant and is available for sale in the US. It is a small bush and you eat the flesh of the berries but not the large seed. It can be grown as a house plant in sub tropical climates like Florida.
Fascinating! Thanks for sharing
I was checking if someone mentioned this before writing the same thing.
Thank you for doing the job 😀.
It can also be grown as a house plant or in a green house like a coffee tree
I had some of these years ago and amazingly they really work. Makes a lemon taste extremely sweet!
Im laughing so hard 😂 your reaction is insane and I've been watching for many years
We can NEVER EVER have a freakin reviews video without a walk-on from our fave dog, Bailey! (She’s a Golden Retriever isn’t she?)
I'm glad you tried the wine. I don't like dry wines, and I've been burned buying the wrong wine and it being too dry. I usually have to make wine spritzers out of it or toss it. These might help with that.👍🏻
Very interesting review. I can tell you really did not think it would work so your actual surprise was worth watching.😊
I had almost forgotten these tablets but now I'm curious myself, I'm going to order some.
It taste like a sickening amount of fake sugar and what ever your eating without the sour.
We need a bathroom update
what an amazing in depth review! it works better on meals to be healthier for example, ice cream with greek yogurt, cherry coke with balsamic vinegar and cherries. so fun to watch!
I would love to see how this works with like home made smoothies or something that might be healthy but doesn't taste good.
We have a Miracle Berry Bush. It's a great plant, nice green leaves, tolerate of various weather and water levels, and pretty red berries. The berries don't taste good but they have that sweetening effect - same as the tablets. We rarely eat the berries. Too easy to eat stuff that will upset our stomachs.
all I can think about is what happens in Skyrim when you try a bunch of ingredients all at once, and then come out of the menu...
😂😂😂. Wonder how the moon sugar would taste.
You simply MUST try pineapple chunks, fresh strawberries, and a grapefruit. Making a lime cheesecake with no sugar, tastes amazing! Also, when you get Jacey to try it, dilute the lime juice and vinegar, it's pretty caustic. Great reaction!
The car seat covers "tell me you have a golden retriever without telling me you have a golden retriever"
My first band which is called Skullbone Jones And The Fancy Hat Wearing Gigolos, has a song called "Eating Mustard With A Spoon". This video reminded me of that song.
This was hilarious! I thought you were going to eat the whole lime, and spit out the burger 😄 loved it!
I tried this in a powder form in the past, I liked it most with Strawberries, they tasted like you had dipped them in sugar, with no sugar required. Was very nice.
Cool!! I've heard of the actual berries that have this effect, but i never knew there was a tablet!
Like when the cute Emmy, emmymade CZcams channel did the real fruit.
Love your videos! Keep it up 🫶🏾
Love your reviews from Florida
This is one of the weirdest episodes ever. Weird but interesting. And I'm glad you're the one doing the taste tests :-)
I wouldn't want to be James stomach after this lol. Hope you are still with us. That's a lot of acid!
Oh yeah, I tried these a few years ago. It was fun. But definitely a parlor trick. I thought it would be good for when I needed to have a bitter herbal concoction but the tablets go bad too fast unless you know you're going to need to have something like that soon. It would probably only be worth it if you knew you needed to use it enough to go through the entire package next week or something..
edit: a quick google says that they should last 2 years... Maybe I just got a bad package. wow. Also searching the item in my amazon history. Its been 10 years since i tried these. time flies.
I have this fruit growing in my yard. It is a slow growing bush about 2m tall now after ten + years and took a few years to fruit.
Tried it with a lot of foods, and even tossed it into salads.
It is interesting with various cigarettes, coffees and alcohols, giving totally different tastes in a pleasant way.
You should have tried something terrible tasting that you sometimes have to consume, like cough syrup. For instance, I wonder if it would make Robitussin palatable.
I absolutely love that you have the mandelbrot set on the wall
PS. where do I get these tablets ?
Next time try pickles, and sauerkraut, and olives ,and pickled cauliflower, cherry peppers, raw jalapenos, green red and yellow peppers, swiss cheese, for sure and maybe some of the sour candies ...like sour worms sour gummies.😮
I'v seen these years ago(Mythbusters?). Made lemons tast sweeter... I'v been curious about them since then. Have to see if i can get those here 😊 Keep up the greate work! BR from Sweden.
There was a thought about Covid. I wonder if this would help with the loss of taste and smell?? I may give this a try to see if there is any difference. Thank You!
Thanks for bringing a unique product review.
I’ve done this at the end of my presentation in the last 2 department meetings I’ve held. It’s a great way to bring your team together.
(2 different teams)
I highly recommend you give this a try.
Brussels sprouts and liver & onions. On a dare😂
Great show!
Liver and onoins--great!
How it works: Miraculin is a taste modifier, a glycoprotein extracted from the fruit of Synsepalum dulcificum.[2] The berry, also known as the miracle fruit, was documented by explorer Chevalier des Marchais, who searched for many different fruits during a 1725 excursion to its native West Africa.
Miraculin itself does not taste sweet. When taste buds are exposed to miraculin, the protein binds to the sweetness receptors. This causes normally sour-tasting acidic foods, such as citrus, to be perceived as sweet.[2][3] The effect can last for one or two hours.[4][5]
You are my number 1 youtuber to watch. I am alaways so excited to watch your videos. Thank you for being so comitted and awesome
Committed
Thank you for being our guinea pig. sounds interesting.
It’s interesting to watch a video about these with the perspective of a review rather than the usual “omg these are so weird”
These are utilized with people going through kemo and it reduces the metal taste they have.
This is much better tasting if you have the plant itself which is very easy to grow. Back in the day there was a comparison of Miracle Berry vs Artificial sweeteners and well there was more money in the artificial sweeteners. Synsepalum dulcificum Is the botanical name. All my coworkers enjoy when I bring them into work but I’ve never tried the tablets only the actual berry off our trees.
Back in the 90's, I checked these out too. After researching it, I believe what happens is that a molecule from the Miracle Berry has two ends.. one end is shaped to receive a sweet flavor, while the other end can receive a sour flavor. On your tongue, the sour receptors are stopped up by the MB, and the sweet receptors are tricked into believing that the sour taste is sweet due to the binding of the MB. overall.. makes sour things sweet and has no effect on naturally sweet items
I grew this bush. I had a lady at church - who was NOT affected - and she ate the lemon twice to be sure - but it didn't work for her.
What about for colonoscopy prep? I gotta do them yearly and nothing makes me sicker than drinking those chemicals. I might try this!
The pill's red, you can't use it for colonoscopy prep.
Well that does it...
Going on amazon to buy this now!
Orange Grapefruit Kiwi Tomato pineapple Goat cheese it’s fun.
I love sweet wines, but everyone else in my family likes dry wines. So if I had these pills, maybe I could enjoy the dry wines because they would taste sweeter?!? It would be interesting to try it!
Time to buy this and make my money back several folds by winning a bunch of food dares/bets against people.
I would like to see you do another video with these trying things like broccoli cauliflower and other veggie type items.
These helped my aunt when she was going through chemo. She had nausea almost constantly and she didn't want to eat anything. But these helped her nibble and keep food down.
Love your videos. Had to laugh when you commented on fish filet. Ridiculous!
When i was a kid ,sick with, flu the chemist used to make a concoction called Senega and Ammonia. You can imagine something with ammonia in it tasted foul! But worked. And i wish these had been around back then.
How was your stomach after this? Man you took one for the team for sure.
These were pretty common amongst the people I went to chemotherapy with because you lose a significant portion of your sense of taste. Food becomes a bit nasty when you can't really taste salt, fattiness, or condiments.
It would be a nice party trick if you challenge your friends to a lemon eating competition
I almost wish that I had kept track of how many times you said weird😂😂
If you find fresh miracle berry fruit, the effects are increasing exponentially. The effects of the pills aren't that potent. But getting the fresh fruit is near impossible. You can buy seeds online, but growing the plant takes some real effort.
But it's insane and strange doing this. I hate lemon and lime, but with a miracle berry extract, the lemon/lime tastes really good.
I have selecting eating disorder and a lot of foods I find completely inedible because the taste overwhelms my tastebuds.
I’ll definitely give this a try to see if it helps
I hear you. I hate onions and peppers and garlic. Lots of other stuff too. Lemons, oranges, most vegetables.
My daughter has ARFID, too. I'm not sure she'd be able to dissolve the berry on her tongue but it's certainly worth a try.
@@jxchambI hate onions when cooked cause of texture, most of the food I dislike is cause of texture, I like raw onion though
It would be fun try try with bitter veggies like spinach and broccoli rabe. Oh and also wasabi paste!
So it works on sour stuff and enhances sweetness so very usefull
I’m off to Amazon to buy some of these!
Definitely worth trying at least once!
Same here. I'm definitely intrigued. Probably good for the holidays when people experiment with recipes and you don't want to be rude.
@@jxchambnaw.....I ain't paying for polite! Rude is free and rude is ME 😂 Id still be rude......can't lie and subject your future eaters to a LIE....for shame! Just say " this is not your best"
@@jxchambthat’s always me. 😂😂
Love your channel! I volunteer with the Death With Dignity program in Washington State. I bought some of these to have on hand when clients take the life-ending medication, which does NOT taste good. However they recently began using Simple Syrup (sugar water) to mix the meds so the Miracle Berries may or may not help in that situation.
You're sick for posting this
Okay I thought this was going to be a stupid video but then you got me convinced I want to try them now😂😂
I remember when I was a kid there was this show that was focused on the science of food. It only had once season but they had an episode on miracle fruit where they made a whole menu that would only taste good if you had miracle fruit before hand. It was an awesome show. I wish I could watch it somewhere but I’m pretty sure it’s not available on anything.
After a good 10 minutes (I wish I was joking but I just had to find it again) I finally found the name again. It was Future Foods and it aired back in 2010. I thought I’d found the show on Tubi and AppleTV but, while I’m pretty sure the front picture is one of the show hosts, the episode are NOT the show. I’m so confused 😢 I’ve always wanted to watch their miracle fruit and healthy fast food episodes again 😞
I got some of these back in like 2008, it was fun, only reason I haven't gotten them again because no fun all alone.
Wow! McDonald's really jacking up the prices huh? Smh...great video as always James! Happy Friday 👍
I wonder what an unsweetened tea and coffee would taste like
flavor tripping baby!
These are marketed as a health aid. They are super fun to try at least once but not really sustainable financially, and they are pretty short lasting.
I had the privilege of having a family member who grew the actual plant/ berry for fun. Growing it is the only way it would be affordable to do this often.
Another strange thing is that your body can still sense the citric acid burn, but your tastebuds are blocked. I’m glad he mentioned it.
I’ve used it for fun before. Works great. And fun.
Ive tried them before. Its pretty cool!
I’d be curious to try these tablets. I have almost no sense of smell, so I get practically all of my experience of food from the flavor on my tongue. Since the miracle berry wouldn’t change the way something smells, it might make food taste quite a bit more different to me than it would in someone who can also smell the food. Maybe. Who knows?
I like almost everything to there aren’t many foods I won’t eat. I can’t stand mushrooms, though - they taste like dirt to me - and I’m not a fan of asparagus or kale. Those would be interesting to experiment with. I LOVE a lot of bitter foods that many people hate, like Brussels sprouts, collard greens, turnip greens, and similar foods, but I’m curious how those flavors would change.
But please don’t drink apple cider vinegar for health reasons. It won’t affect your health, positively or negatively. Ever "benefit" it’s claimed to have is misinformation and junk science. Use it to make your salad dressings taste good or make your meatloaf glaze better. It makes a great glaze for carrots when cooked down with a little brown sugar, too.
Thank's for the video James 🎸
I had a fun "pot luck" party with these. Everyone brought something sour. To me the most dramatic was white vinegar.
I remember Sorted Food did one of these tests and went into the whole chemical mechanics behind it and I found it interesting. I think if I paid $18 for a pack, I'd only use it sparingly to test some things out lol.
It’s - Miraculin , a taste modifier. Look it up on Wikipedia
Thanks! 😊
You are a very brave individual.
Wonder if they would be helpful for those going through cancer treatment?
Many really have their taste buds ruined during the process.
the lemon part had my mouth watering a crap ton lol
I wonder if those miracle berries would work on rye or hard alcohol , I’m thinking of taking up a new hobby😂 Thanks James, great reviews you are awesome!
The best use to get the best effect is to take one pill per bite. Liquids from what you eat pluss saliva wash off the fruit oil in your mouth.
Good for diabetics! I tried it and loved it.
9:51 ah. I found out who you’re voting for 😂 same here my man.
It's useful in a few ways. People on a diet who is cutting out sugar can enjoy dessert which contains zero sugar. Same goes for diabetic people. Key lime pie? You can make 1 without any sugar, pop 1 tablet and enjoy the pie.
Just had the same discussion with my daughters. Filet O fish used to be the cheapest sandwich on the menu.
Very neat product.
