Project Racing Green is my 1989 Rover Mini Racing Green that has had an official John Cooper conversion fitted by John Cooper Garages. The standard 998cc engine is boosted from 41BHP to 60BHP thanks to the engine upgrades. The upgrades include a polished and ported Cylinder head with enlarged valves, LCB exhaust system, Roller tip rockers, and Twin HS2 SU Carburetors. The interior enhancements include walnut door cappings, walnut dashboard, alloy door furniture, and luxurious John Cooper emblem full leather GTS recliner seats.

A must watch for any potential first time Mini buyers this video!
Minis are rust free, it's comes supplied at no extra cost.
Good old British Leyland build quality.
I've got Camlo plastic wheel arch liners fitted on my Mini. I bought them many years ago from Minispares and they are a must fit for a restoration. Do a perfect job of keeping the crud out.
Always loved a “Racing Green”. This might be the car I loved when I was at secondary school. There was a guy who had one and spent loads on John cooper seats and accessories it was in mini world early 90’s and it was really tastefully done. Looking forward to this build
Just think, if classic minis had been rustproof we wouldn’t be able to move for the damn things ha ha!
Keep’um coming Keith, the videos that is 😳😂😂😂👌
Really enjoyable series, perfectly edited to show the process of buying and preparing a classic car!
Thanks! 👍
First stages are always the worst, so satisfying when the new metal starts going in !
Keith, you have me worried now. My chills & the top shock absorber mounts, both sides, were fine! There was some Dinitrol in the rear pocket so I added more & hopefully they will be good for a while. However, the filch panels on both sides were not & were repaired along with the A panels, wings & front. I did the corrosion tests as admirably demonstrated by your good self so maybe I won’t worry. Not this year anyway.
Another cured Mini back to the road 💪🏻 keep on the good work
Thanks! Will do!
Great video Keith I was expecting more rust but couldn’t believe how clean it was underneath still actually see the paint
My garage is built with that very same wood lol. But I do keep a couple of fire extinguishers around
Nice. I like repairing not cuting. 😂
Looking forward to the next one and how you tackle the front sill & jacking point. Joe
Another great video Keith. Can’t wait for the next one 👍 Mark.
Thanks Mark 👍
Of course there will be a hole behind the shock mount, would expect anything else 😆
I was hoping for a miracle LOL
Excellent video of you getting stuck in 👍
Thanks 👍
Another fantastic show bro I'm new to the channel but been watching old rebuilds for 4 days now brilliant 👍👍👍👍👍
Thanks and welcome
Reminds me so much of my build lol. Rotten in all the same places.
Love seeing you work. Great for inspiration and motivation. Currently trying to finish off my Bini roof conversion. Getting to grips with the headlining.
Thanks 👍 I like the Bini roof conversions.
Looking forward to this resto Keith, good work so far. With regard to the step, I would cut the section out as neatly as possible & weld back in if it's good enough mate 👍👍
Hi Keith as you say its a mini and this is a good one. Looks like a great project though.
Great video as always! 4000 views is great! I aspire to get that many. Awesome job
I have no doubts that the extra work on that inner sill will be a breeze for you 😀😀.
another great video
Older English cars RUST like there is NO tomorrow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Good episode 👏
Thank you
Great video Keith, a bit worse than that you thought, but you'll get it sorted 👍
Hi Keith, as you said...the usual findings on a mini rust wise hey. Look forward to seeing your progress, great stuff as always 😊
Wow
Oh yes that was always going to be rusty under the shock mount!
I think you might get away without cutting the door step if you cut through the inner sill from the inside of the car
Not surprisingly I had the same problem on mine. The step looked pretty reasonable but I ended up cutting it out to do the job properly and that created a new problem as the replacement step sills were the wrong profile. I might have been farther ahead cutting out the original and welding it back in as Nowt 2Cere has suggested.
Cheers!
Excellent vid Pal. I’m really looking forward to this. Good work ethic and production. Keep them coming 👍
This weeks video was a great watch. So much so I’ve watched it twice. I like the 250ml bottle of Kurust, we all know you’ll be cutting out any rust and replacing it with shiny new metal. Nice timelapse but when you work on the sill on the other side can we see you cut it away in real time please, even if only par way along. Always wondered how you do it and how deep to cut?
Will do mate
"Same sh*t different Mini"
Although you have been very lucky with the last two mate.
I think you will find that has had a new front panel on at some point as the bottom bracket to the inner wing has rather odd welding. But if the panel is OK just a bit of plug welding needed.
I really shouldn't watch you doing cars as it shows how bloody slow I have been .. 🤭🤭
You are spot on mate. I had been trying to work out what was going on as the wings are original (I'm 99% sure). The front panel to wing join has 3 layers though, so definitely had a front panel at some point!
Good work keith 👍,might be an idea to wear a dust mask an ear defenders when using the grinder .always enjoy the videos ,your down to earth realistic views .😀👍
Always true but a pain in the butt when recording. Best to do the actual work off camera I guess!
Great content great video. 👍 Looking forward to seeing the progress.
Thanks 👍
Mines an 89 racing green Keith and it was worse than that. Particularly at the back.
Hi Keith, it seems a shame to cut a piece out of the door step. Can't you just cut the jacking point out , patch the inner sill and then weld a new jacking point in?
Yes, I could do, although to be honest it makes it easier to cut out the whole step as there is less to un-pick on the lip
Love you're videos. Just wondering what do you do for work. Just curious if it has anything to do with cars.
I'm an automotive technical manager now so don't get my hands dirty, although I've worked in the motor industry all my life as a mechanic/technician. I moved into management about 10 years ago so working on Classic Minis is a nice break from working on a computer!
mind if I ask what's your plans when this one is finished? loving the vids, about to head back across the pond from the USA after 25 years, have a couple of toys I want when I get there
I plan to keep it. To be honest, for what I've got planned I think I will end up spending too much money on it to make it worth selling
The price of OSB lately? Be cheaper to buy new flooring 😆
£10 a sheet. I know a nice builder!
Bit of a rotter .Are you near Redding in Berks.
I'm in West Sussex

Hiya Keith-great video as ever. Think that scrap pile behind the garage might be growing bigger soon! Keep them coming. Keep well.
