- It's time for another episode of: Sonic Speed Strats! Sonic the Hedgehog 2 is celebrated as one of those rare sequels that took everything that was good about the original game and improved upon it. This episode details what those improvements were that helped to define the Sonic series, such as a certain two-tailed fox, the spin dash, and Super Sonic.

This one was by far my favorite one to help make with the team. Sonic 2 made me the Sonic fan I am today!

It was Evan (Mardiculous) from Tails' Channel who did his narration for Sonic Origins: Speed Strats.

Quick tips for beginners regarding Sonic and Tails single player that the instructions does not tell you:
To utilize Tails’ flying ability hold up and press jump twice. Tails will begin to fly and you can aim Sonic’s jump to catch on so that Tails can carry him. Continue pressing the button to go higher. Hold down and press jump to jump off.
Special stages are more difficult with both Sonic and Tails. Tails copies Sonic a quarter of a second later so you’ll have to plan ahead to get him to dodge bombs. Also, the amount of rings you need to gather to earn the emerald actually increases when playing with Tails.
If you don't let him gather any rings you don't have to worry about him losing them in the first place.

It's been nearly 30 years now since the release of Sonic the Hedgehog 2. How time flies.
Not only the game, but Tails was also introduced as well since almost 30 years.

I don’t know why I got so happy as to cheer and clap for the video when the player FINALLY did the Chemical Plant skip
Turns out that there's a better skip that lets you avoid the water altogether.
There's a vertical ramp before this section that you use to take a higher route if you go fast enough. On this route, you'll run through 2 loops and come to an upward curve. Jump on this curve, and you can reach the grey flooring above the water.

Honestly, i hope we get more of these for more games in the future, because they are funny and helpful for those who have not yet expirienced these games.
Back when I was a kid, Chemical Plant Zone was THE level to beat; if you got past the rising water, you were considered a legend. Even today I still have PTSD from that one section 😅
I’ve had so many memories with this game, good and bad, and it is definitely one of the best.
There is a secret route in the Level where you can bypass that part. I have a video on how to get there.
Love these promo videos, so much fun and I could literally watch them all day happily.

I mean probably because sonic origins besides giving the chance to older players to re-expierience the classics, its also a way to introduce younger audience that are not familiar with these games. But at the same time I bet speed strats already exist in youtube so it's kinda meh.

Good lord, I love how Eggman outrunning Sonic is acknowledged here in all of its absurd glory.
Also, that trick at the end could prove to be quite helpful to those who will be playing Sonic 2 for the very first time through this collection... though that's not implying that I'm already aware of it, mind you.
Tip for the Spin Dash: You actually lose power if you don’t mash fast enough, make sure you release it as fast as possible

The unfortunate part of playing with two characters in Sonic 2 is the special stages are way harder as Tails moves a second after you do meaning he's way more likely to get hit by bombs

I love that they added tails' flying mechanics in general as tails couldn't fly in the original sonic 2 the only time he flew was when he would descend onto the screen when he went off screen.
Professional easy part is to not drown on Chemical Plant Zone.

When I was little I died there so much I had to use tails for the rest of the game....until I gave up on the final boss and I finally got passed that part with sonic when I played sonic mania
Tip for the Special Stages: Bringing Tails with you raises the ring requirement up, so I’d recommend playing solo if you want Super Sonic/Super Knuckles and the good ending
Keep in mind, Tails is considered easy mode, so he doesn’t have a Super Form, unlike Sonic and Knuckles
Sonic 3 & Knuckles Origins: Allow me to fix that.
You can get Super Tails in Sonic 2 with debug mode by placing and breaking an 's' monitor

You can instantly get the Sonic 2 Achievement/Trophy by using the stage select code and finishing death egg. you don’t even have to play the full game. When you startup Sonic 2 at the title screen, use the d-pad code up up up down down down left right left right and you should hear a ring sound. Once you do You have access to stage select, finish death egg zone and you’ll get the achievement/trophy instantly.

- Give us a level select for crying out loud! Why do we still have to use a debug mode code...
- Muffled audio samples in 3&K
- Voices missing in CD
- Knuckles Chaotix music in museum
- Tails jumping non-stop in 2
- Real classic mode without spindash in Sonic 1 for example
- Ability to skip videos
- The many new collision glitches

You can make tails stop jumping by making him fly, just spam the jump button for a few seconds if you aren't going anywhere.

Audio isn't muffled on console, you can skip videos on console, no collision glitches on console, no blur on console, there is a level select, the code isn't hard to use, you can disable the spindash in sonic 1 using the level select and just start at green hill act 1 to play the game normally

@@VW2010 - No code. You just fall down what was, in the original game, an inescapable pit in Mystic Cave. This game's version of Sonic 1, CD, and 2 are basically just ports of Whitehead's remakes of the games.

3:43 A quick tip I myself discovered with the Special Stages in this game: if you jump, you’ll land on the opposite side of the half pipe. For example, if you jump at 8:00, you’ll land at 4:00 and vice versa. You can also jump in the top section of the screen when Sonic isn’t touching the half-pipe and the trick will still work, though you’ll still land back in the half-pipe. I.e., jumping at 10:00 lands at 4:00, and jumping at 2:00 lands at 8:00. Trust me, this gets a lot of use in the later Special Stages.
I'm sure there will be Speed Straits talking about Sonic 3 & Knuckles in next week.

I don't own the game and I never will after stealth said the game was rushed out to release on sonic's birthday. I will just stick to the original versions on steam that I got before they were delisted and mega collection plus on ps2.

I really hope Origins gets a patch to fix Tails' broken AI, where all you hear is him jumping somewhere offscreen and even if you hold up on the d-pad, he doesn't fly to your location!

Well, i don't know why SEGA don't put a Switch Button on this games , to players switch beetween Sonic and Tails, with a few restrictions
- On Sonic 1 and Sonic CD, can only play with Sonic.
- On Doomsday zone, you need to play with sonic.
And, if i remember, the history of Knuckles, on S3&k, pass after Sonic defeat Eggman, when knuckles try to recover the Master Emerald after one of EggBots survive on Sky Sanctuary. They should place the history of knuckles afterr you beat the Doomsday boss, but idk why he don't.

@@Alejandro333777 I know it isn't but I just saying because the Visual's are Smooth for both Mobile & Origins but there a difference because Origin got the Genesis/Mega Drive Audio in Anniversary & Story. While Mobile has Enhanced Music, also a way get the Enhanced Music is by installing mods in Origins if you got PC or Nintendo Switch.

He was called Mecha Sonic in japanese Sonic 2 manual. I think a lot of the name inconsistencies have to do with him not being named in the american manual. Like archie comics called him silver sonic and lego dimensions called him robo sonic.
It’s canon name is mecha sonic. The name Sliver sonic is from the Archie comics and robo sonic was from Lego dimensions which wasn’t made by sega. His original Japanese name was mecha sonic and in all recent media such as his figure is referred to as mecha sonic. The one from s3&k is mecha sonic mk II
He was always called Mecha Sonic. In early Sonic 2 concept art, he was labeled as Mecha Sonic (Or technically "Meca Sonic" because they were written in japanese so they probably didn't know the proper spelling). He has never once been called Silver Sonic officially, save for the comics - that was only the robot that appeared in the Game Gear/Master System version of the game. "Robo Sonic" was most likely just made up by the devs of Lego Dimensions.
Whenever the current cast of actors retires, I can rest easy knowing this Ben Schwartz sound-alike is on SEGA's speed dial

A little bit of a missed opportunity... but they could have also bring back all the other scrap zones and not just Hidden Palace Zone in or at least tribute them in by using assets from the other canceled zones in Sonic 2.
