  • After a few solo fishing trips and a lot of aggravation, I decided to try a rudder on my Bass Raider so it would track better and stop spinning like a top! Did it work?

    A suggestion on the rudder you could always to have a kickup function on the rudder but yet still have resistance to keeping the rudder down during normal non-contact operation is rig up a spring or two that offer enough pressure to keep the rudder down while still allowing a "kickup" function in case of hitting an underwater obstruction while moving.
    Springs would be a really cheap way to do what you desire and are available cheaply at any hardware/auto parts or home improvement store.

      @billwiley7216 that's a great idea! I also like the fact that I wouldn't have to wait until I got into a little deeper water to lower it. It would lower itself as I exit shallow water. Thank you very much for the idea. I'm going to investigate that modification. I appreciate you watching!

    You can always use the Kayak paddle as a emergency paddle if your battery dies on the trolling motor. If you get the paddle in bright orange it could become a 4 in one: Push paddle, emergency paddle, rudder, and when using as a rudder insert the other half of the paddle into the rudder to be used as a safety flag.

      @drjekelmrhyde now that is resourceful! I love the idea of using the other half and then if I need to paddle I'll have a full size! Thank you for watching and commenting. Very appreciated!!

    Great idea using simple items to solve the drifting problem in wind.

    Very clever solution! It's absolutely crazy that the manufacturer neglected this aspect of their product. If you're on the water, you're going to experience wind!

      @jasonm1884 thank you. And it is crazy. It's strange to me that these boats have remained relatively unchanged for years, yet the kayak industry is very innovative. Including Pelican! The Catch Power 100 is a very clever and well thought out kayak / boat. Thanks for watching!

    One of the first things I did with my Bass Raider was put a rudder on it. I like your solution using a kayak paddle, much better than my pvc pipe system I made but it does work. I'll have to keep an eye out for a cheap paddle!

      I'm still amazed at how much of a difference it made! Very grateful to those that suggested it.

    Nice and simple. I have not had this problem....yet, but have not had my boat on open water, such as a lake or resivour. Just rivers and its always 2 of us and i have a motor in the front and rear. I have a feeling by myself on the lake will be different and your method is about the best i have seen so far. Nice video!

    • @yakkittymack
      @yakkittymack  Před 8 měsíci

      @monzsterman thank you kind sir! It's better with 2 people for sure, but even then the wind will spin it around if it's anything over 10mph. Sounds like you have good weight distribution which helps a ton. The rudder allows me the luxury of not having to add weight to the back when I'm by myself. I'm even gonna use it when I'm not by myself...it made that much of a difference. Thanks for watching and commenting. I appreciate your interaction!

    The wind is not good for small boat. Even on small ponds at 30 mph winds up average where I live 10 to 20 MPH and a rudder work well.

      The wind is my biggest dislike for this little boat. The rudder helps a lot, but it can still be a chore to stay steady. Thank you for watching friend!
