    Many people spotted the lack of sealant around the water connection area. This area is sealed on all production models. This was a pre-production unit being filmed.

    I have a concern with the new water works closet. If you have a hose or connection that leaks you essentially will soak your floor. Even when you disconnect hoses there's usually a fair amount of water that will leak out. I would think there should be some sort of drip pan with a drain under the connections. Just an observation. Great video as usual. I look forward to seeing more Brookstone floor plans as they become available.

    I’m glad that they are putting the water connections in the back since most of you rv parks are towards the rear of the site

    • @boson285
      @boson285 Před 5 lety +1

      I often find the connections about midship on rv lots but generally vary place to place. I don't care much for the rear wall power connection and water works board seems to be missing common features.

    I’m not a fan of the water closet on how it’s designed. Leaks, if they happen could do severe damage.
    The black tank flush being mounted on the outside looks like an afterthought or an oops, we almost forgot to put that in.

    That's very nice unit, like the large floor space in the bedroom. Suggestion, all units should have a backsplash all the way around the stove. It doesn't make any sense to just do the back wall while you have grease splatter on the wood that runs the side of the stove (you can tell men design these units). Can they go to the whisper quiet system instead of the a/c in the ceiling.

    • @boson285
      @boson285 Před 5 lety +2

      Ditto! I have taped up a sheet of foil around the stove. As for whisper quiet, gotta have that at night for light sleepers!

    Front Living Room +++, Main Bedroom ++, Water Works Board in back ++, Trailer Frame ++, Azdel ++, Flooring + , Toned down graphics +, a full size shower + What's not to like? Maybe the length? Maybe the need for a 1 ton duel axle to tow it? A lot of positives, over all I like it.

    • @boson285
      @boson285 Před 5 lety +1

      Just a couple small things for me.the closet has a front to back hanger bars rather than 2 rows left to right. Makes getting those pants or that shirt in the middle more difficult to reach. I don't like the awning gap at midship and seems there should be awning cover more toward the front end.

Don't say "They fold out" because it's not the same. You wouldn't fold out a couch bed in your home to lay down and watch TV for awhile, would you? :-)

  • @sierraAframe
    @sierraAframe Před 5 lety

    Front livingroom floor plans seem nicely laid out at the dealer, but in an RV park they usually hinder your views. Most times your best windows are looking right at your neighbors... it's like designing a dream home with massive windows and then placing it on the lot backwards. That's my main issue with Diesel pushers, the best window is the windshield, and it views the neighbors across the street... I find most views are to the rear or side. That also brings me to the passenger side kitchen floor plans, they usually place windows on the drivers side, looking toward your neighbors patio... not your own. Anyway, great video, thanks JD...

  • @Erin-Thor
    @Erin-Thor Před 5 lety +1

    Actually, you are restating the industry mantra on the axels. As a former engineer I can undoubtedly tell you that as you go down the road the rear axles will experience load factors higher than rated as you bounce down the highway. A 14k lb. weight on two 7,000 lb. axels is a "meant to last at least as long as the warranty" move by the manufacturer.
    Yes, I know the hitch weight bears some of the load. But when you hit a bump or dip you are going to push the rated limits.

    • @BigTruckBigRV
      @BigTruckBigRV  Před 5 lety +1

      I get that, but on a trailer weight 14,500lbs with 14k combined axle ratings, you only applying 10k lbs to them. You said that the pin bears some of the weight, but that sum is closer to 20% of the GVWR. Which means even if the trailer isnt loaded, almost 3000lbs of the 12,500lb dry weight is transfered to the tow vehicle. Assuming you pack 1,000lbs of camping supplies, that still only leaves 11,500lbs actually resting on the axles with 3,000lbs over buffer. And to further that, the axles have a 30-40% buffer over Gross Axle ratings to allow for the added stress and motion during movement. Honestly, in the last 10 years when have you seem an RV axle actually fail? Ive seen, shackle hangers, shackle straps, equaliziers, bolts, and the even the occasional leaf spring fail, but no axles...... The google image search begins

    • @Erin-Thor
      @Erin-Thor Před 5 lety +1

      Big Truck Big RV - You "may" have a point. I was about to argue with some failures I have experienced or seen but you are correct, it’s always been the mounting, springs or other components that have failed.

    • @Erin-Thor
      @Erin-Thor Před 5 lety

      Big Truck Big RV - To clarify what I meant... say you are on the street or highway and go over a dip or culvert. The initial stresses are going to be on your truck, then as it rebounds the weight will shift (bounce) to the 5th wheel and it’s axels will bear all of the weight plus the downward thrust of the dip resulting in as much as twice the trailer weight. This would happen with any immediate downgrade of about a 5" drop and corresponding rebound. And as I think of it, I have heard of one "axel failure" but just one. They found out about the damaged axels when they noticed uneven tire wear.

      I believe so, as are many others. As long as you're a handy man, most reasonably built RVs can be used full time, even though not specifically rated or warrantied for it. Shoot, my brother and his family lived in a 24' KZ travel trailer they paid $17k for 7 months straight while their house was being repaired following Hurricane Michael. And it's still in great shape.

    Not a bad looking fifth wheel. However, why put the generator controls in the end table in the living room when the other controls are all in the kitchen? Also, why put the LCI control panel under that cabinet. As much as you might need to use that panel, and refer to the read outs, it seems like an average sized person (man) would need to stoop or crouch to really see it. These are not big issues, but little things that just seem to make sense or things that should be considered. Thanks for the look at this nice fifth wheel.

    Only a few comments/complaints.... The waterworks board appears to not be completely sealed in so if something is leaking it will eventually leak onto the inside floor? Lots of potential for water damage there... I always wish that the strove would be more centered in the counter. I HATE using my 5th wheel stove since the left side is merely 3 inches away from the fridge, makes it difficult to use multiple pots with longer handles. Also, what did they put carpet underneath the recliners in the living room? I understand the reasoning behind carpets and slides but that spot made little sense to me. Other than that the color package inside and out is fantastic, I love the minimal yet tasteful graphics on the outside, great suspension system, overall great bang for what I assume won’t be a huge sum of money

    I own a Ram 2500 one ton, single wheel. Do you think that would be okay towing this? Or would you go dually?

    • @BigTruckBigRV
      @BigTruckBigRV  Před 5 lety

      Ideally a dually, but so long as your truck has the cargo capacity and the tow rating, then a single rear wheel truck should be fine.... Sorry, just saw you said 2500 1 ton... Is it a 3500 or a 2500?

      My older Dodge 4×4 says 14,000 and change max weight. That's water food and everyone who is in the cab. My brother in law. Same truck minus the 4x4 says 17,000 and change. The trailer on this video empty would be over my max and very close to my brother-inlaw 's max. Add all the gear and people and we are now over loaded. I wouldn't pull this RV unless I had a 1 ton truck or bigger
