    TGV might refer to "train grande vitesse" which is the French name for the high-speed train system.

    • @coriolis_storm
      @coriolis_storm Před rokem +19

      To add a little more context: the French TGV was the first commercial high-speed rail system in the world, with service starting in the late 60s. "LittleTGV" is absolutely a reference to that.

      @@coriolis_storm Except (even if I like the TGV as much as every other ferrovipathe :D)
      The Shinkansen was the 1st high speed train in the world, opened for the Tokyo Olympics in 1964, yeaaaaars before TGV between Paris and Lyon (je crois c'est 1974 ? Je sais plus, il me semble que c'est Giscard qui était à l'inauguration...)

      @@Allyouknow5820 Actually, commercial operation of the TGV didn't start until 1981, 17 years after the opening of the Tōkaidō Shinkansen. The SNCF only started its research project in 1966, presumably after seeing the results of the Shinkansen, and got approval (and funding) from the government in 1976 to start building the first line for commercial use.

    You don't get food like that on Queensland Rail. And as mentioned already TGV stands for Train a Grande Vitesse or High Speed Rail, which is what the French call their high speed rail system. Obviously the restaurant owners think the French Shinkansen system must be pretty good too to name their restaurant after it (and also all the Japanese rail words like Shinkansen might already be trademarked).

    I wish I could translate the profound love of trains here for you. I think, my interpretation, and this is just a ballpark interpretation, is they represent a promise made that was a costly shock for the traditional way of life and actually, randomly I have wanted to say this, on the Fukushima regeneration program, if you've maybe observed some of the deeply novelly themed train services but equally the standard lines in the north, there is a deep and direct connection between the communities that the rail services and the rail itself. I know it's not really the subject of this video but, since we invest so deeply in rail, I always want to tell people about some of the aspirational town planning that has happened in conjunction with rail, granting that a lot of villages and towns outside of the city are not especially exceptional and I'm sure you've probably noted that occasionally when seeing them pared with the extensive reserve of nature that is very often now, almost growing wildly in any places. One of our concepts, that I am proud of, is the communal centre village that from town to town, typically features an estate of housing around something like a town square very often a school complex and small shops. And from place to place these infrastructures, are generally dispersed relative to population and along the rail lines. So, I mean, to accrue to the concept of 'assisted redistribution' very often these homes are the most affordable offering close to the most amenities available within maybe 7km of each. I look back at the Fukushima crisis and I see a devastating blow that rendered the country both numb and collectively shocked and what I also see, is the quiet resilience with which like a forest decimated by fire, soon enough, green shoots begin to show and then eventually saplings and trees and so on. The incentive for many, to leave the city, in my view, lies in community lifestyle, connectivity and flexibility. Ofcourse, even after twelve years, this process and idea, is still being hashed out every day. Certainly, at the centre of the conundrum, lies the everyday ambitions and hopes of the people, it is hard sometimes to convince people to see a future that, perhaps lies outside of the reality that they might have always dreamed or hoped would be. I would point out that, in commiseration with the international stance on 'forced relocation', along with cheap Akiya and various other incentives we have sought instead of demanding for the good of the nation, to convince and provide... so, I suppose, I am glad that there is still a strong tradition of rail in Japan, even that it cut such deep wounds across the country in a bygone day since, it provides us with an avenue that is in reach to achieve a broad range of goals, not limited to those relating to carbon restructuring.
