    Hey guys, looks like good fishing, I am like you when I fish. Catch & Release. I release the Stripped Bass also, however when I release them, it's over the fire🤣. "Stripped Bass is some good eating fish"👍

    Hey Mike, Great video! Especially the shots of the screen. Now I understand why you were just getting back from GA. JTB

    Mike you should use a Zebco 33 classic rod and reel outfit for a lake striper trip and rate it's performance against your accurate outfits for fun.

      It's funny you should say that. I did a video as a teenager blue fishing with a Barbie rod. It's on VHS somewhere. I need to find it. To be honest, the Zebco is fine for 5 lb fish all day. 😉. I may take you up on this one.

    Great video dont hate me but im a big striper fisherman down south here and I honestly think they need to shit it down July august it just kills the fish after the fight in most cases your thoughts?

      For lakes with big fish I’m with you 100%. For lakes that are packed with 3-8lb fish I could go either way since it’s a put and take resource that doesn’t rely on perfect spawning conditions.
      Lakes can vary so much, Lanier has no thermocline or a very weak one that I can never mark on sonar. (Because they pull so much water) Some lakes have cold river systems that stay 50 degrees all summer. Thanks for your comment brother!

    Another great video. Mike I noticed while you were running you had good amount of noise and then the one guy looked like he adjusted the gain way down. What do you run your gain when running and when sitting still

    • @MikeSmedleyOLDSCHOOLSTRIPERS
      @MikeSmedleyOLDSCHOOLSTRIPERS  Před 4 lety

      Mike Bruns Good question. Simrad’s have a great auto gain system. I leave it at auto zero when sitting still and may crank it up a touch when running on plane to see those fish at 40mph a bit better. I don’t mind a little noise on plane.

    do those stripers do well in the summer over there. we have die offs on lake norman.

    • @MikeSmedleyOLDSCHOOLSTRIPERS
      @MikeSmedleyOLDSCHOOLSTRIPERS  Před 9 lety

      Norman is tough being so shallow. I think Lanier does pretty well. It has a lot of deep water.

      +Mike Smedley (OLD SCHOOL STRIPERS) yeah, they started stocking hybrids now as they can tolerate the lower O2 levels in the hot summer months. I will miss the striper though. might have to make a trip to Lanier.

    • @muffinpuppy089
      @muffinpuppy089 Před 8 lety

      The good thing about Lanier is that since the introduction of blue backs the stripers don't lose as much weight over the hot summer months as they did when only shad were available. On the downside schools of striper don't stay on the surface for very long anymore since Blue backs will disperse when being chased unlike the shad which will remain in a school. Just my observation though. The pros might disagree!

    I've never seen that many fish on the fishfinder. Albiet I've got a brand new boat and set up and new to lake lanier, so I don't really know where to go. What techniques/tips do you suggest to catch fish? Is it possible to cast net for bait? Any help you got would be much appreciated. Thank you.

    • @MikeSmedleyOLDSCHOOLSTRIPERS
      @MikeSmedleyOLDSCHOOLSTRIPERS  Před 9 lety +1

      Since you're new to the lake I would definitely book a trip with Stephen Knight. Striper Steve. You can learn a few years worth of info in one trip. It's really the best advice I can give. He fishes every single day. We only fished for 2 days. We just did the basic down line fishing with Herring and some jigging with big spoons. Ben Parker spoon. Within a few miles of the damn.

    I spent over $500.00 on a ACCURATE REEL ( This was the M O S T money I have EVER spent ) and haven't really caught a fish that was WORTHY of that expense. I think I should have spent more on my Electronics. and learned how to U S E it properly. Hahahahahahaha....
